Thomson Withdraws From Strikeforce: Destruction, Ludwig Tapped as Replacement

Duane LudwigStrikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled main event title defense at Strikeforce: Destruction on November 21st in San Jose against Yves Edwards after suffering an extensive toe injury in training that will keep him out of action for several months.

Veteran Duane Ludwig (43-5) has been selected to replace Thomson and take on Edwards (34-14-1) at the event, which also features Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Bobby Southworth against Renato “Babalu” Sobral for the 205-pound title.

Ludwig, a winner of four of his last six, was last in action in October, submitting Sam Morgan with strikes in the opening-round of their headlining bout at Strikeforce: Payback.

Edwards had won three-straight contests before losing to EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons via first-round TKO in June.
