Denis Kang Likely To Debut Against Alan Belcher at UFC 93

Denis KangDenis Kang (31-10-1) is likely to make his UFC debut against Alan Belcher (13-5) on January 17th at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland.

According to MMA on Tap, Belcher has formally agreed to the matchup and is awaiting a response from Kang, who last week signed a four-fight deal with the UFC.

An instant contender in the UFC’s 185-pound division, Kang has won back-to-back fights, most recently knocking out veteran Marvin Eastman just 49-seconds into their main event matchup at Raw Combat: Redemption on October 25th.

Despite a rough start to his UFC career with losses in two of his first three fights to Yushin Okami and Kendall Grove, Belcher has now won three of his last four fights in the octagon, most recently topping Ed Herman via split decision at UFC Fight Night 15 in September.

  • FR702 says:

Alan Belcher huh? I’m not quite sure how I feel about this, atleast Kang is fighting in the UFC for a bit….

  • Us And Chuck says:

I tell you want this card just keeps getting better & better

  • FR702 says:

I definately does I doubt it will be free on Spike but all we can do is hope….. Isn’t January 2009 going to be one of the GREATEST months for MMA eva?? We get Ireland card, Affliction II,and the SUPERFIGHT GSP v BJ Penn

  • DBiz says:

It will be free on spike. It has to be. They will get almost no buys if they try to run it as a PPV because it will either be delayed or run at a time that no one is buying them.

  • FR702 says:

Werdum, cut by the UFC after ko loss…. WOW

  • BSBiz says:

Looks like a contract dispute. Can’t imagine what he’d be upset about.

  • FR702 says:

Something about not getting in the Tourney or something, well he could have been a “alternate” but he got taken out of contention by getting brutally ko’d

He will go and fight for DREAM or Affliction or some shhh
If he would have won I think Werdum would have found himself in a different position…

  • Jason N. says:

This card isnt crappy enough to be free…when they have a headline fight of Diaz vs…well..a no namer….it will be free again… basically, the free one’s rival the fight night cards….this main event of Franklin vs Hendo will be a great fight…

I’m just disappointed they give Kang – Belcher…why? If you want to give him a cupcake in his 1st fight, why dont you go after someone a little better….like…Almeida, Dollaway, Kendall Grove, Ed Herman, or even Chael Sonnen…. I am sure Dana is still protecting Dollaway right now, but the rest of those would be a better fight than Belcher, in my opinion…

  • DBiz says:

ufc.com says nothing of the sort. In fact, it doesn’t say it is a PPV at all, it says it is an “International Event” instead of “PPV Live.” If I am not mistaken, that is also how the last overseas event was listed. Everything else there is boilerplate.

If they make it a ppv, it will be one of the lowest all time. By the time it’s broadcast, it’s been over and reported on for at least 4 hours. There are no fights on that card worth watching once the results are widely known.

  • DBiz says:

Jason….Belcher beat Ed Herman in his last fight. So wouldn’t Herman be MORE of a cupcake.

  • Jason N. says:

You can make that case…but I look at it like this..

Belcher did just beat him, but lost to Jason Day, Grove and Okami.. but hasn’t really beaten anyone worth while – like Sean Salmon, Kalib “running man” Starnes, and Jorge “50 yr old” Santiago…

Ed Herman hasnt really either, but I just think his fighting style would be more entertaining….and the fact is, “mainstream fans” would know Ed Herman more than Alan Belcher…so by giving him Herman, that might help Kang’s stock….plus I just think Kang would KO Herman out which makes for excitement….but its just my opinion

  • Us And Chuck says:

Well this is a direct quote :

UFC 93 will be available on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PST on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, Bell ExpressVu, Shaw Communications and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.95 for standard definition or high-definition broadcasts (where available); UFC fans also have the option to watch the UFC 93 pay-per-view live from Dublin, Ireland at 3pm EST/12Noon PST.

That is from the link i gave you it is PPV even Dana said this recently.

  • T3chn3tnium says:

wow UFC is getting greedy. 2 PPV in one month. if they do this i’m sure it will be the last for awhile. knowing that most people can’t afford 2 in the same month and if they had to choose they would choose the superfight. not to mention fedor fights the next weekend on PPV. stupid IMO. they be lucky to break even i bet. unless they got PPV through out Europe.

  • DBiz says:

If it is PPV, it’s time to fire up channelsurfing.net and watch it for free.

  • shank daddy says:

if you look on the other ppv events listed between now and then on the UFC site you will find your ppv provider. it clearly does not offer it for the UFC93 event from my provider. so that leads me to believe if you live in the USA and have satallite or cable you can watch this one for free on spike. anywhere and anyone outside the USA will have to pay for this one. unless your active in the USA military and on base. those guys will get it free too. cause the UFC loves their troops!!!!

  • Jason N. says:

I dont know if people have heard of this but there is this product out there called PalTalk – go to google and find it. It is basically like a chat software you can download for free but if you want to be a member its like 50-60 bucks a yr…and its totally worth it!

I dont use it for this BUT you can watch the live PPV events for about anything on there…they do show the UFC ones but I actually pay to watch those on my TV rather than my comp….but I watched the Roy Jones vs Calzahge fight on there this weekend….that just proved my point on why i dont waste my time with boxing anymore!! I was bored beyond belief…

Anyways, you can check it out if you want…i dont want to seem like im promoting it…if u sign up for it, i dont see a dime..just thought id bring it to peoples attention…and if u like that fake crap (WWE or TNA) they put those live PPV’s on there too….

  • Mikew says:

Dennis Kang will destroy Belcher, i thought he was a little better the last time he fought, his Muay Thai was solid but Kang is a complete MMA fighter with loads more power and experience . I think this is an easy introductory fight into the UFC but in all fairness you should have to earn your way to the top by winning fights. I’d bet heavy on Kang.

  • timcat says:

The thinking is that both Kang and Belcher will stand and trade punches with each other imo.

  • Mikew says:

I agree timcat this will be a stand up fight.
