Huerta To Face Newcomer Crane at UFC 74
Roger Huerta will face undefeated mixed martial artists Alberto Crane at UFC 74 in August.
Huerta boasts a stellar 20-1-1 MMA record and a spotless 4-0 record in the UFC. Currently in the midst of a 14 fight win streak, Huerta defeated Jason Dent, John Halverson, and Leonard Garcia in his first 3 UFC fights. In his last UFC fight Huerta received a scare after another UFC newcomer, Doug Evans, seemingly won the first round of their fight on The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale. Huerta rebounded in the second round to defeat Evans by TKO in the second round. Earlier in 2007 Huerta became one of the UFC’s most famous fighters after he became the first fighter to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Crane has a perfect 8-0 MMA record and will make his UFC debut against tough competition in Huerta who has quickly risen to become a top contender in the lightweight division. Crane is a submission specialist ending 7 of his 8 wins by way of submission. Hailing from New Mexico, Crane last fought in the Professional No Rules Fighting Organization which is based in the state.
This fight should be an interesting one pitting a striker in Huerta against a ground-based, submission fighter in Crane making this bout a true clash of styles.

why do they keep giving him newcomers? I would like to see him fight an established fighter in the UFC to see where he really sets among the top fighters in the division. I think he's proven himself worthy to show he should be in the title contention, and in line for a shot at the belt. Yet they continue giving him these unknown fighters, and what happens when one actually beats him. Then it will be "Oh he's doesn't deserve a shot at the title. He got beat by a nobody who's never fought in the UFC." Hopefully that will never happen, and he'll get that shot to prove he belongs at the top.
This is really the biggest complaint out there about Huerta. He won't get a title shot anytime soon because he has faced little competition or challenge outside of Garcia. This is the opposite of what the UFC is doing with Clay Guida and others who receive tough opponents time and time again. I am hoping the UFC listens to critics and schedules an experienced fighter for Huerta's next fight so he can actually receive a title shot with a few more wins.
