Brock Lesnar: All I’m Thinking About is Ramming My Size XXXXL Gloves Into Randy Couture’s Mouth

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Nov 4, 2008 at 1:10 pm ET45 Comments

Brock LesnarThough many have criticized the legitimacy of Brock Lesnar as the top heavyweight contender and challenger for Randy Couture’s title, the former professional wrestler, while admiring Couture as a fellow-athlete, has tuned out the doubts and remains focused on defeating the UFC hall of famer and capturing the heavyweight belt on November 15th at UFC 91.

“There are guys I admire as athletes and Randy Couture is one of them. He’s a legend in MMA and it is an honour to get to fight him so early in my career. It’s a huge fight, the biggest fight of the year, period. But all I am thinking about is November 15 and ramming my size XXXXL gloves into his mouth,” said Lesnar to The Sun. “When I joined the UFC, Dana White told me I would be fighting the very best fighters in the world, that I would get no tomato cans. That’s why I wanted in — I don’t want to fight bums. I will leave that deal to other sports.”

Lesnar is 1-1 in his UFC career, losing to former heavyweight champion Frank Mir in his UFC debut at UFC 81 in February before rebounding with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Heath Herring at UFC 87 in August.

well, we’ll see what happens in about a week and a half.

  • Us And Chuck says:

I see you doing that to Randy too sadly :(

I hate to say this but i think this could be a overwhelming miss match Nov 15. Lesnar is no Tim Tim so we can not use that as a hope for Randy i feel :(

  • RyanMoney says:

How can you not like this guy.

I am a huge Couture fan and always will be, but I think Randy will find that he has gone to the well once to many on the 15th.

Age, time out of action and size and strength will be Randy’s judge in this one. imo

I see Randy being stopped in the 2nd round. Im not gonna even begin to think how, but that’s how I see it. Now just wait and see when Randy KO’s Lesnar in the 1st! haha

  • FR702 says:

GG was the huge guy in the HW division (size wise) and Randy handled him well, got a broken arm out of the deal but handled his size well

Um ya Brock is like twice the size (visually) than GG and dwarfs Randy, hell Lesnar made Herring look small, how is Randy going to impose his will on Brock?

    Takedowns=Brock

    Size=Brock

    Speed=?

    Pure Power=Brock

    Grappling=?

    Subs=Randy (both offense and defense)

    Chin=Randy

    Experience=Randy

I don’t want to count out Randy but Lesnar is a beast, perhaps Randy can go the way of Mir and go for a knee bar or something he has to come up with his best game plan ever imo

  • T3chn3tnium says:

brocks my boy. i wonder what its like to go to a club in vegas with him..

  • RyanMoney says:

awkward! especially if it was a gay club! haha

  • YZFOXRACING says:

HERE IS THE FIRST TIME I SAY IT. AND WHEN I SAW THAT THIS FIGHT WAS A RUMOR I GOT REALLY NERVOUS FOR THIS FIGHT. MORE THEN ANY OTHER FIGHTS. BUT I DON’T SEE RANDY WINNING THIS FIGHT… I HONESTLY DON’T SEE IT. AND I KNOW YOU CAN’T COUNT HIM OUT BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I FEEL HE LOST THIS FIGHT BEFORE IT EVEN STARTED. I JUST FEEL BAD FOR RANDY CUZ NOW WHEN HE LOSES YOU CAN KISS THE FEDOR FIGHT AWAY. MAN I LOVE RANDY AND I HOPE HE PROVES ALL OF US WRONG..

  • JustJoe says:

Us and Chuck, what happened to Big Doofy? lol

  • JustJoe says:

Come on guys. I see this going the same way as No Holds Barred. With Brock as Zeus, and Randy as Rip. And Randy/Rip ultimately winning in the end!

  • nev-o says:

haha whoever thinks randy will knock out lesnar is drunk, lesnar is an animal!!!!!!!!!!!!! the only guy he would lose to is fedor, i make a promise if randy does get an upset win which it would be! haha! he would lose in less than a minute to fedor, lesnar would take him the distance.

  • nev-o says:

CHIN to RANDY HAHA OK LETS SEE HERE I BET LESNAR WOULD LET CHUCK PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE AND IT WOULDNT PHASE HIM! Lesnar is tooo smart in mma now to lose this isnt KIMBO slice! YOU all wonder why Dana White Picked Lesnar after One fight he saw something……..!!!! HUGE MEAN AND STRONG!

  • Justin says:

I’m on board with the don’t count Randy out, but Lesnar is a best thought process. I don’t see many ways Randy can beat him, unless Lesnar makes a mistake and Randy capitalizes, a la Lesnar/Mir.

  • FR702 says:

nev-o, chin to Randy simply because I’ve seen Randy get hit hard and not get ko’d, I have yet to see Brock get hit hard….. Brock has already lost to Mir soo that entire “the only one he will lose to is Fedor” thought just got tossed out the window….. Anyone can get ko’d at any moment ask GSP.. I understand your devotion in your thoughts and Brock is a beast forsure and it will extremely difficult for Randy to eliminate Brock by any means, cheers…

  • gav glasgow says:

how do we know brock has a good chin, mir or herring hardly hit him!see brock winning but hope randy gets some good shots in so we can all find out.

  • JustJoe says:

Lesnar also took Heath Herring the distance LOL, what’s your point?

  • Turk says:

Randy, is going to out class Brock sorry to tell you all who are betting on him {Brock}. He’s only fought twice in the UFC and Herring is no Couture neither is Mir!!!!!

  • Dave5555 says:

I hope that Brock can use his xxxxxxxxl gloves to get out of arm-bar or leg-lock !

  • RyanMoney says:

Herring and Mir are also not the age that Randy is, they was not coming from a year long lay off and were not coming back from a broken arm!

The odds are stacked against Couture here, No matter what anyone says!

I would not rule Randy out, but If I was to have a bet on this fight, I would stick my money on the younger, stronger, bigger and hungrier Lesnar.

What else does Randy have to prove in his career? Win or lose, I see Randy making this his last fight. I think he will feel the strain on his old body by the end of this fight regardless if he wins or loses.

If he wins, he has to face NOG/Mir correct? I cant see him being all that interested in that fight at all.

  • JustJoe says:

Randy still has that fire to compete though, and I hope this is a true slugfest. I hope it doesn’t turn out like the Brock/HH fight where they play grope a dope for 2 plus rounds.

  • Turk says:

How many times does Randy have to show that age is just a #. He has proved that several times before. Yes, i agree with you RyanMoney he would’nt be interested in fighting NOG/MIR. Any way Brock would get submitted by either one of those guys. Maybe Mir would rip his leg off this time.

  • JOHNBOY says:

im torn in who i think will win this fight but if i had to put my wage on it i would put it on randy, i think randy’s underrated boxing skills and speed will win him this fight via tko in the 3rd,

  • Justin says:

That’s bold johnboy, people have accused Brock of a lot of things, but being slow isn’t one of them. Not sure that Randy has a speed advantage.

  • Jazzkok says:

Dudes, i think Couture is an excellent fighter but in this case, I don’t see him winning. He usually out works his opponent and dirty boxes them agains the cage but i don’t see him being able to do that with Lesner.
Lesner is wayyy to strong and agile.
Age,size and time out of the octagon will make for a DECAPITATION FROM BROCK “CLOVER FIELD” LESNAR!

  • Ethan says:

Everyone just relax here…… If this big bag of wind can’t finish Heath Herring how’s he gonna beat couture? When Randy pounds the sh1t out of him for 3 or 4 or 5 rounds you’ll all say, “oh yeah, that’s why they call him the natural.” Randy TKO -3

  • RyanMoney says:

lol ethan. Pounds **** out of Lesnar?

    I agree with Jazzkok

  • silencekit says:

Why does Lesnar have a weiner tattooed on his chest? Go Randy!

  • jiujitsuMAN says:

    i like randy hes a great fighter…

i like lesnar hes a huge up and comer

    whos gonna win?

on paper its lesnar, but couture has time and time again shown the paper means nothing…

can randy over come lesnars power and speed? will he be able to control lesnars size and strength? does lesnar have a chin? can randy’s chin handle one of lesnars hits, like the ones that sent mir and HH flying(on hits that didnt fully connect)?

randy wont be able to stand toe 2 toe with him and bang…

theres two ways for randy to win, KO or submision

theres two ways for lesnar to win KO or cards

so unless lesnar finishs him off early he will prolly be submitted later…

IF lesnar does win, it will be a HUGE bolster to mma and the ufc, as a large number of WWE fans will tune in, and once they tune in its pretty much bye bye to WWE…

i hope he wins so that he can face Nog, cause i dont see mir beating nog…

  • T3chn3tnium says:

Randy himself said he pretty much gave up on the fedor fight..

Brock and big Nog fight will be good i think

  • Ethan says:

This fight aint happening on paper. You watch on the 15th. Then come back with your tail ‘tween your legs on the live results comment page

  • The Gunslinger says:

wwe will never go out of business jiu jitsu man..its too big..plus im a wrestling fan..it seems weird but i always have been a huge wrestling fan..it may be scripted but those guys still feel pain..they all risk there bodys for there jobs..you know how many surgies they have to get alot..after landing on the same part of your body a thouzand times can do damage.plus intentinaly cutting themselves for blood ..some of them do it some use blood capsuls….plus alot of wwe wrestlers are mma fans and alot of mma fighters are wrestling fans…i mean look at spencer he is th best example i know he goes to live events all the time….i love mma and wrestling ill admit whos next….who watchs guys jump 30 feet off cages and land on pretty much nothin but concrete, and jump off top ropes and ladder and risk your life landing on a wrestling ring

  • The Gunslinger says:

they respect mma so ill respect them it takes great determination to be a wrestler you have to be a great athlete..and seeing alot of professional wrestlers come over to mma and succeding has me giving them my respect..

  • Kai says:

is Brock a monster?? yes absolutely. but there are still some questions to be asked of him as an mma athlete.

    - submission defence – this is the most obvious one. unfortunately we didn’t get to see whether he has made a decent improvement in his sub defence with herring. you can be sure randy will ask him this question.

    - chin- now there is no doubt the man hits hard and for a big bloke DAMN he moves fast but he hasn’t been popped properly yet. i wonder if that big head will wobble if he gets hit. maybe randy wont ask him a big question on this one but I think we can expect lots of little questions :P .

    - attitude- boisterous, arrogant and disrespectful sprang to mind at the end of the herring fight. its obviously not so black and white but this question will most definitely be answered in time.

don’t get me wrong, I think the guy will win as an mma fan I win either way.

randy is a legend I never tire of watching him but I think Brock is to strong for him. but the guy isn’t a legend without reason and Brock is in for the fight of his life.

    size: Brock – Monster

speed: Brock – a monster with speed. i think a mixture of age and ring rust has to have had an affect on randys speed.

    strength: Brock – monster

experience: Randy- there’s only one randy couture

submissions: Randy 5 wins by non strike submissions to my knowledge he is a submission specialist compared to lesnar.

it has the making of fight of the year. until bj vs George of course hehe.

  • FR702 says:

The “SUPERFIGHT” is in 2009 yet I understand what u meant

  • GIBOR says:

poor Randy, please come up with some secret plan ! I hope u are training to come up from under a strong heave monster somehow… if randy can help himself from a situation that Heath was in, then maybe Randy can win?

Heath wasnt knocked out, he was just unable to shake Lesnar’s weigh off himself.

so, if Randy could somehow achieve that ‘coming from the bottom’ submission, than— maybe it is possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Randy, I’m praying 4 u !!!! U sure need it !!!!!!!!!!!

I’D LOVE 2 SEEE LESNAR VS. KIMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ryan in NY says:

I don’t see Brock winning this. He landed that one huge punch on Herring and then laid on him the entire fight. He had a TON of opportunities to sub Herring and he missed them all because he has ZERO BJJ. He won’t be able to simply lay on Couture like that.

Randy is one of the few fighters in the UFC that I will never question.

  • Kuma says:

Are you serious? Kimbo is a moron. He will never have a prime.

I will never count randy out. No freakin way. I also feel Brock dosent deserve a title shot yet. Its garbage. Make him fight his way to the top like everyone else. He didnt dominate Herring. He dry humped him. Thats it.

Brock is gonna throw that big right hand, and The Natural will see it coming. Randy for the win.

  • WINDMILLER says:

RANDY COUTURE 1st or 2nd people will laugh at how easily “THE NATURAL” whips him!

  • Champagne says:

i doubt brock will have to go thru too much submission defense… i mean common, mir… a bigger heavier man than randy, couldnt get an armbar on lesnar… i highly doubt he’s gunna go for a kimura, omaplata, gogoplata, keylock, or anything of the sort… if randy is going to submit him, it should be again by either heel hook or knee bar, im sure by now though, lesnar has come up with defense against that after the mir fight… Randy will forver be an mma great, and i knew that after he beat my old fav vitor… but i have to be as realistic as most people and say brock is going to win… even if it is over 5 round fight, i cant see randy bloodying lesnar….

  • king dong says:

You all need to get off Lesnar’s nuts. He’ll beat a 48 year old then get tapped by Nog

  • RyanMoney says:

These are the days when Randy, at his age, will not see so much coming in the way of punches.

Mid 40’s is very old for a fighter. For any sportsman. Look at Gatti in the Mayweather fight… his age was just too much for him. His body was slower thsat he wanted it to be and his punch resistance was broken. I see the same happening to Randy very soon. It might not be against Lesnar, but it will certainly be soon.

  • Doc says:

Frank Mir was very lucky to fight Brock when he did. When Brock lost it was the best thing that happened for Brock. He learned what happenes when he makes a mistake. He was dominating that fight and became over confident. By watching his last fight you can see the changes that he has made and expect to see this from him again. He knows he blew the Mir fight and it won’t happen again. Brock will win not only from power and talent but from his incredable focus and attitude. He was like this even in High School sports.

  • revjames13 says:

Brock’s achilles heel is going to be the submission experts: Nog, Mir, and Fedor. The fact that Fedor hits like a sledgehammer is just another reason he will own Lesnar.

But everyone else, including Randy, is going to have their hands full with this guy. Randy is such a champion I think he is going to find a way to make it very competitive and might lock in an RNC in a scramble situation. It’s going to be tough for Randy because he doesn’t really work subs. His wrestling advantage is negated, obviously. But he could have an edge in stand-up if he can keep it there, by circling and weaving, while picking Brock apart a little.

When he gets taken down, which he will, he needs to lock neutralize Brock enough to get the stand up. This could be a long fight in which Randy survives a war of attrition and his experience comes to the fore at the end and he gets a surprising sub finish. If he does, boy will his star be burning bright.

  • Justin says:

    Some good points, revjames13.

  • KOuch says:

Brock should not be under estimated. Randy has his work cut out for him.

  • Vinz C1ortho says:

Randy is a fighting genius.. Lesnar has size and retardation in his blood lines.. meh.. I’m sure randy will come up with an interesting strategy to poop on the Les.
