UFC 75 To Be Broadcast on Spike TV

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Jul 16, 2007 at 6:17 pm ET12 Comments

According to both Spike TV and the UFC, UFC 75 will be broadcast for free on Spike TV begining at 9 pm on tape delay. The event is the second PPV quality event broadcast by the television network following UFC 70, which also took place in England. It will be the first UFC title fight broadcast on Spike TV and is the third event to take place outside of the United States this year.

International fans can view the event on pay-per-view.

With a main event between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Dan Henderson in a dual title fight, the card could easily become the most watched UFC event in the organization’s history.

Wow,,a free fight with that caliber. Its always nice to see PPV event at home without paying an arm and a leg . I have to give Henderson a slight edge on this one, no disrespect to Rampage. I understand both belts are at stake.

UFC 70 was good and all but a free title fight (a unification one at that) is really something special. I was hoping they might show it both live and on tape delay at night but free MMA is free MMA.

On a side note, I am planning on doing live coverage as the event is going on as well as a live Spike edition as it airs in the US for fans to discuss the results.

So, who is going to check the results before the fights air and who will stay away until they can watch them first?

Kris, why would you want to do live coverage as it's going on when you can't watch it instead of watching it on Spike and doing the coverage?

I understand you got a site to run, but seriously, there if nothing like a watching a UFC without knowing the results.  Especially with an event this big and on tape-delay, I stay away from the computer, radio, and t.v.  I actually don't even answer my phone just in case some jackass wants to call me and tell me what happened just to try to piss me off.

"I was hoping they might show it both live and on tape delay at night but free MMA is free MMA."

They should show it live on PPV and for free on Spike at night.  I would order the PPV and pay the $40.  All the commercials breaks in between fight and rounds kinda killed the whole UFC feeling for me.  I love the commentary with Rogan and Goldberg which they edit out a lot since it's tape-delay.  I've been ordering UFC for almost 7 years now so it doesn't bother me coughing up $40 whether the card is good or not.  I was one of the few that ordered UFC 72 that started at noon out here in Cali.

  • Kris says:

It does ruin the traditional feel of the whole show and, although it is unlikely for this event, I would like to see the UFC land a major sponsor who will provide the event with limited commercial interruption. In the end it would be a wash for the UFC as far as advertising revenue goes but it would benefit fans.

  • Kris says:

I actually have access to the European PPV so I am able to watch the fights live and do live results. If I didn't have access I probably would be doing the same thing as you Steve and be avoiding the internet all day.

Way to go Zuffa. Every time it seems you guys are slipping, you make a brilliant move. Probabley should tip our hats to Spike TV for dishing out the old hunsky(million that is) I would imagine they demanded some bigger events for the price they payed(really a steal if you think about it) I kinda feel Zuffa owes this one to us. Over the past year they have been raising the price slowly but surely, and also, Stacked just didn't live up to the hype. I don't blame anyone, Tito was hurt, I believe that. I really didn't think Forest Griffan and Hector Rameriz put on that great of a show either.

  • Accomando says:

My belief is that the casual MMA fan loves that UFC 75is free.

I wish it was LIVE at 2:00 p.m. and on PPV just like 72 was.  Btw, can't wait for Guida's next fight at UFC 74.

With that said, the UFC continues to do things that  boxing would never even try at this point in time.

A unification bout for free? Has the UFC gone mad?

A boxing unification bout would never be free on T.V.  UFC is one of a kind.

I will stay away from the computer to avoid the spoilers and watch the free broadcast.  I can't wait.  what a pleasant surprise from UFC.

  • Kris says:

I think it is awesome that the UFC and Spike decided to do this. This fight is going to get so much hype because of both titles being on the line as well as the personalities involved.

I think this card should really be impressive. I mean we can't forger that we also get to see Bisping and Cro Cop for free too and probably Houston Alexander as well. The UFC would be crazy not to put Alexander on the free card in front of all the fans who will tune in.

  • MrRee says:

I still don't get how the PRIDE title is on the line.  It is not in a ring with ropes and there are different rules of engagement.  I'm not buying into that hype mechanism.

  • Kris says:

The PRIDE title is simply on the line because the UFC owns PRIDE and can basically do as they please with the title. It truly is a sign that PRIDE is done and is unlikely to come back, at least not with its current belts or structure. Now that the UFC has officially announced it is a unification bout that at least cleared the air with regards to what titles would be on the line in the fight.
