One of the UFC’s writers, Thomas Gerbasi, has released a series of “unofficial” half-year UFC awards based on what we’ve seen so far in 2007. The lists are of course based on his own personal opinion but serve as a good conversation starter so here they are:

When are people going to stop calling the Rampage KO of Liddell an upset. Just because fans that don't watch any MMA other than UFC are upset by Chucks loss, doesn't make Jackson's win an upset victory. Rampage wins that fight 9 times out of 10. Just like Chuck beats Tito about 7 out of 10.
I had already posted a comment on this but I don't think it posted. Just because the fans who's MMA world doesn't extend past the UFC are upset about Liddell losing his title, DOES NOT MAKE RAMPAGE OVER THE ICEMAN AN UPSET! Rampage wins that fight 9 times out of ten. The rest of the best is pretty good, especialy the Guida v. Griffan fight, it was amazing.
Man, they put Bisping vs. Sinosic on there over Edgar vs. Griffin. Yeah, you can tell the guy that wrote this is definitely one of the UFC's writers.
I agree, by MMA standards Liddell and Jackson were very evenly matched and it wasn't really an upset but considering how dominant Liddell was and how long he held the belt it was an upset in the UFC.
Bisping vs. Sinosic shouldn't have made any lists expect maybe KOs. I wasn't a single hit but it was dominating. That was one of the main mistakes I saw on the list.
Liddel and Rampage is considered an upset because all the newbies only know Chuck as far as MMA in concerned..Great KO with Alexander an Jardine…and Crocop vs Gonzaga,,
Randy should be on top of that list,,,
Yep. Rampage no upset.
But I think Gonzaga should be fighter of the year. We will find out in september though won't we?
Whoever wins between GG/RC will surely be fighter of the year, no?
edgar over griffin was EASILY the best fight of 07, and it's not even on the list. wtf?
fisher/stout and bisbing/sinosic shouldn't even be on IMO.
As much as I don't like it, Anderson Silva should be at the top of the list. With his speed, accuracy, and power in striking, I don't think anyone in any weight class could come close. As far as the ground game, we've only seen a little, and that's enough to keep him out of trouble. And no I'm not a huge fan of Silva, just giving credit where it's due. I've played it over and over on who would be able to dethrown him, and I just don't see it — even with "what if" scenarios from heavier weight classes (I would like to see that matchup with Hughes though).
I thought Fisher-Stout was good but I agree on putting Edgar-Griffin on the list over Bisping-Sinosic.
I think the most interesting thing to watch is how the picks from this list compare to the lists at the end of the year.
I agree with Mikey, Silva should be on top after all Quinton merely beat a guy whom he'd already defeated.
