Kuniyoshi Hironaka will face Thiago Alves at UFC Fight Night 11 according to a recent post by Hironaka on his blog.
Hironaka has an 11-3 overall MMA record including a 1-1 record in the UFC. He debuted in the UFC at UFC 64 last year against top welterweight Jon Fitch and fought to a unanimous decision loss. Hironaka returned to the UFC after nearly 6 months off, posting a unanimous decision victory over Forrest Petz at UFC Fight Night 9 in April. He has won 4 of his last 5 MMA fights.
Alves, a Brazilian Muay Thai champion and Jiu Jitsu purple belt, boasts an identical 11-3 MMA record but has more experience in the octagon going 4-2 in his first 6 fights for the UFC. After debuting with a loss to Spencer Fisher, Alves topped Ansar Chalangov and Derrick Noble before being defeated by Jon Fitch. He has since bouced back with consecutive wins over John Alessio and Tony DeSouza.
Alves has not fought for more than 7 months after testing positive for diuretic Spironolactone following his win over DeSouza at UFC 66 late last year. The positive test resulted in a suspension and fine for Alves but he has now cleared to compete yet again. His wins in the UFC combined with his high knockout ratio make him an exciting fighter to watch and his return to the UFC will surely be one to watch.
