UFC 90 “Silva vs. Cote” Results: Silva Claims TKO Victory Following Cote Injury
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva remained undefeated in the UFC on Saturday night, October 25th, defeating challenger Patrick Cote, though it was a finish nobody hoped for and no one saw coming.
The matchup headlined UFC 90 “Silva vs. Cote” at the sold-out Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois just outside of Chicago.
After a close first round that saw Silva do the most damage with a kick to the head in the final minute, the fight went to the ground in the second. Though Silva again did more damage Cote challenged Silva and went toe-to-toe with him on the feet.
But in the third round, Cote, who became the first fighter to make it past two rounds with Silva in the UFC, suffered a fight ending knee injury just 39-seconds into the frame and the bout was immediately halted, awarding the TKO victory to Silva.
Despite a close start to the fight, the crowd was displeased with both main event fighters and the anti-climactic finish. Silva showboated throughout the matchup, bowing to Cote at the end of the first round, offering to help him up off the ground, and playing games throughout, while Cote was booed for being unable to continue, despite doing his best to keep fighting.
After the fight, Silva apologized to the crowd for his performance and asked the fans not to boo, while Cote revealed that he likely tore his meniscus, re-aggravating a prior injury.
The disappointing main event finish dampened an otherwise solid night of fights that saw Thiago Alves top Josh Koscheck via unanimous decision, effectively assuring him of a welterweight title shot in his next bout, Gray Maynard wrestle his way to a unanimous decision victory over Rich Clementi, Junior Dos Santos upset heavyweight contender with a highlight reel uppercut knockout, and Sean Sherk and Tyson Griffin go toe-to-toe in an exciting bout to kick off the UFC 90 broadcast.
In preliminary action middleweight contender Thales Leites submitted Drew McFedries early in the opening round, Spencer Fisher earned “Submission of the Night” honors for his third-round triangle choke submission of Shannon Gugerty, Dan Miller bested Matt Horwich via unanimous decision, Hermes Franca topped Marcus Aurelio via unanimous decision, and Pete Sell took out Josh Burkman via unanimous decision.

I wish they would show the whole card. The main went sour and they cant give us the whole card?
Griffin vs. sherk was good.
gsp vs alves will be really exciting.
grey manard looks like a young matt hughes
patrick cote doesnt deserve an emediate rematch.
yes it was a joke, but anderson seemed really disrespectfull durring the fight.
They did air Leites’ submission of McFedries, which I don’t think would’ve been shown had the main event not ended the way it did. Don’t forget, another fight (likely Fisher-Gugerty) will be posted on UFC.com tomorrow, but I don’t think you missed much as most of the prelims weren’t all that exciting and went to decision.
SOrry, I’m callin “bull****”. Yes, I know these guys go through brutal training camps and injuries happen, but look at the odds- 3 months of running, running stairs, sparring, kicking the bag and…you blow a knee in the main event, having done something that nobody in the company has done yet- gone to the third round with this champ…the ufc has set themselves up for a huge rematch with a champ who’s said he’s retiring and has absolutely wasted everyone in his path.
Had he finished Cote in the first, who would be left…no one really, now they have at least on big fight left before Anderson leaves…
Beleive me, I hate the idea, but I just don’t buy it. The odds are just too much to take.
Just my opinion.
But I will still spend my $40 to watch the rematch…so I’m the sucker.
dissapointment
can we see an open weight tourney some day in the UFC 170-205
we will see if Silva is the best
I was just at the UFC 90 and as much as I love MMA—
THIS WAS RIGGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Silva acted like a clown & Cote dropped like Marie Osmond and nobody even touched him!!!!!
Glad I wasted my $$$
Maybe I can return the UFC undies I bought???
But hey I was the only chick who was able to hang with the marines for the full 70 seconds… Thats worth a T SHIRT!!!
The Silva/Cote fight was good, it looked like Silva was playing with him a little bit, but I think he also showed respect for Cote’s power. I look forward to seeing a rematch, but that’s a long way off with the injury. Even though I didn’t pick it to go that way anywhere, I had a suspicion that what happened in the Werdum fight, would be what happened in that fight. Griffin/Sherk was a good fight, and Alves/Kos was a pretty good fight. Some of the fights were a let down though. The pace of the Silva/Cote fight was little bit of a let down, and the way that it ended was a huge let down.
yeah Kimie, it was rigged, they wanted Cote to tear up his leg and be out for a year….have another.
Kris were you at the fight? I’m glad you point out the Fishrer fight. He seems to be a fan favorite. yet his fight they just show the end. It’s like seeing the very end of a good movie and then being told by a movie critic that you should go see the move because it is one of the best out. To me this is a flaw in the UFC’s ppv system. I mean 45 dollars is a lot of money for a couple of hours of entertainment. Especially these days with people losing their jobs left and right. It seems petty and greedy to charge loyal fans even more to watch the under card.
I can’t believe you you see Anderson Silva being disrespectful. How so? Is it becouse he doesn’t stand in front of Cotex and get smashed? Yeah, he probably could have destoyed your Canadian Preditor at will, but oh no, he was just to disrespectful for the likes of good ol’ Raffy boy!!!! Cotex better thank his lucky stars he even walked out of there alive! The Spida NEVER disrepects. I mean, how long you been watchin’? Old ACL injury my ass!
raffy is a moron thats the only person who can take a silva hit or knee and anyone who takes their first ufc fight against tito ortiz and goes the distance on four days notice is a beast. and thats at 205. silva was tryin to look good because after that knee he knew he could only win by decesion.lets see it again right away.cote won the first round, anderson was a little scared.thats awesome someone that has he has to stay away from.no disrespect to the spider, he would still beat any fighter more times than not.
yea it was rigged….whatever, who makes money on anderson winning, and im not thinking that dana and the ufc are trying to make silve cote like liddell ortiz….get over it, he blew out his knee….it happens
Hey Justin….
I would love to have another bottle or should I say cup of WATER since they do not let plastic bottles inside the arena…
Since I do not drink anything other then that….
So hmmmmm. Cote trains for months and months, all to look at the camera hoping for some badge of honor for making it into the third round w/ Silva, oh wait and RAISE three little taped fingers at that camera like the lil boy who just accomplished EXACTLY what he was there to do…. Hear the bell ring to start the third round, then drop because …..
IT WAS FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the fight was not rigged. but goldberg is f’n dumb for saying “Oh Cote took him farther than he has been taken.” What ever silva was just playing around he knew it was a joke. He could have taken him out at any point. In fact, I think he was being disrespectfull in some of his antics. but it was not rigged. But, with that said Cote still doesnt deserve a rematch. At least not right away. Man if anderson is really going to retire soon do you really want him to fight Cote again? Hell no you dont. We want Silva super fights if he is going to retire. All respect to Cote but come on he does not stand a chance in this match up. We want silva vs. jardine or vs. chuck or Gsp. I garruntee he would’nt be doing all that dancing and putting his arms down and trying to help the other fighter up, as to say “oh, do you need my help in this fight?”.
I’m down with an open weight tourney 170-205 ****, in a way its already happening. You got that rabid pitt-bull Alves fighting tonight at about 190-195 inside a 170lb fight! go figure!
What Bear $h*t they need to go again for free man october sucked for mma
knightboy624
did you see the Dan Henderson fight?
what does tito have to do with it?
umm raffy Cote did take him farther then any other fighter, he took him to the 3rd. and everyone needs to stop hating on Cote cause he ate that straight left that crumbled Irvin, he also took that wicked knee in the 1st, not to mention alot of those other shots that would have taken alot of guys out. Anderson did respect Cote and his power which is why he did what he did, the dancing was him trying to get Cote to come in. But Cote stuck to his guns and tried to be a counter puncher.
i dont know if you guys know this but dana wants to see knockouts and subs. thats why the bonuses are there, if he wanted to fix it he would make it a bigger name not a cote rematch. if you want to complain you should complain about grey maynard getting on main cards.boring, did you see how much better the sherk griffin fight was.
being a fellow Canadian of course I wanted Cote to win, but we all got to relaize the Anderson is a great fighter…. But after tonight I am thinking that he is getting way to cocky in his style…..if he were to really fight, with no showboating(i hate that) it would have been a first round fight…….but now we are going to have to wait till cote heals and is able to go back to the ring ………which by then might be to late to see( wasted $45 to see) I agree with all of the job loss I think that the ufc should show all fights, sometimes the undercards are better then the main events……..by the way the rest of this fight was great…..I wish that they were all this exiting
SPIDA vs. RUSH! He might as well make it three belts to retire to. Bye Bye Quebec!
Not worthy to be a UFC Fight Night, much less a PPV. I’m sure the numbers were bad for this one. I hope they made money at the gate and it was great promotion for the next 2 PPVs. UFC 91 and UFC 92 look great. This was all lower teer fighters, except Silva. Cote was like an 8th grader going to fight a prize fighter. His French/Canadian a$$ was soo out classed.
The only competitor Silva has left at 185lb is Robbie Lawler (ex-Elite XCs 185 champ). And Anderson will tear his head off. Maybe Ninja Rua or Benji Russell Radach, from the former Elite XC, can create some excitement.
I’d like to see a re-match with Yushin Okami. He was the last one to beat Silva, and fights in the UFC. Silva should avenge all his losses, like Chuck Liddel tried to do.
raffy your a moron who doent know anything about mma or how to spell. and chuck and jardine dont have chins and yes spider was more worried about cote than anybody else. tito was brought up because showing he can stand with anyone. lets not forget chris leban fought cote and only won by split dec. and cote should of won, fixes are by judges not injuries[matt hamill over the count and clay guida beat tyson griffin].
I would have to say… cote being in rehabilitation.. more silva at 205.. sounds more exciting than a rematch imo.. and NOOOOOOOOO cote needs to rehabiltiate fight a fight or two thennnn rematch. i agree with M3 october sucked… if randy and brock don’t pan out to be the match of the decade this will hurt UFC bad….
ninja and benji are not good. okami and robbie would be a good fight. sherk, alves, and kos are not exactly low teer fighters gonzo, but think what you want. they were all trying to finsh just didnt happen you moron.
Doent know how to spell.
Silva (and everyone watching the fight) knows that he could have finished that fight several times. His antics were entertaining but still I wanted to see a classic Anderson Silva KO (and it would have saved Cote’s knee). Silva looked like a kid on the playground in there, which is fine, but since the fight ended the way it did it kind of makes him look foolish.
Hey Kimie the fight was not rigged its called he blew his ACL…. in other words an injury. I would love to see a rematch between these two because Cote ate some hard shots in this fight and still didnt take him down because he was scared (or because he has no ground game but whatever) he stuck to what he said he was gonna do and right now i think Cote is the most dangerous opponent for Silva because he didnt get knocked out or anything and he knows what Silva has to offer in a rematch and i think the next fight between the two will be awesome. I am hopping on the Cote bandwagon this fight has given me a lot more respect for both fighters.
I didnt see sh&t, I was at a halloween party. I wanted to watch the Silva Vs. Cote fight, or should I say the Cote Vs. Silva fight. From what i am reading it sounds like I would have been very disappointed and pissed to waste my $ to watch a “rigged” fight. That was the very reason I stopped watching boxing. The Fertita famiy controls a lot of sh$t, even down here in Houston. And they better not screw up this. Because us fans are mafia too
just watched the dan miller matt horwich fight on ufc.com
good fight
but I want to see hermes
I think Okami would be a great match for silva! I mean rematch! But I Anderson’s proggressed so much more since then. More than Yushin from what I,ve seen, heard, and read about.
that was going to go score cards, if you think he didnt try to knock him you dont know anything tmoney. he took his hardest punch and knee thats why he was acting like that because he wanted the judges and everyone one to think he was in control. did anyone see how hard drew mcfedries hit him the man is a beast no matter what anyone says he has the best chin in mma.thats why we need a rematch.
what silva pulled tonite was trash. not only did he spit in cotes face by show boating but he wasted ppv time on his bs antics. he dislikes junie for spitting on the black belt but at least that was outside of the ring instead of in the ring. i thought he was the classiest guy but now he has lost his class and his head is getting to big.ufc is ending sooner and sooner without giving prelims due to selling them on there web site wich they also double the price of. it was 60 a year and now its 60 for 6 months.there was 20 mins left when they stopped plus they raised it 5 $ and im sick of danas crap ripping off fighters and the fans while making way to much money and being a dik all the time.anderson is the only thing that was guarenteed to be a good fight and after tonite im shocked that he would pull the bs he did and to say cote made it longer then anyone is a joke cuz anderson ran and joked around for 90% of the round.
see this is the chance ive been waiting for everyone flames rashad for “showboating” but when silva does it its his fightng style…..NO! silva showboats…guess what cote deserves a rematch..silva was hesitating…one can say if silva tried he would have destroyed him but you can also say that if silva would have actually exchanged at some points he could have got caught cote obsorbed every silva shot like nothing and i really dont think this is over….okami would get ko by silva but cote is a legitimate fight cote vs silva 2 is next for the spider..i know and represent i told everyone maynard is gonna tool clementi and i was right…maynard will be champ one day just wait and see it happen….santos is a monster
knightboy624,
After Silva rocked him what did he do to finish the fight? Cote was rocked and Silva’s dancing around with his hands down. It was entertaining but a disappointing and frustrating ending.
Hold up! I just watched Silva ko Okami in the first with an up kick on the Rumble on the Rock-PRIDE. You’re right, Yushin will get destroyed!
tmoney if he could of finished ithe would of. gunslinger is right about the silva fight, hope your not right about grey hes a boring ass fighter
if silva vs. cote 2 is the next match silva fights then ufc is stupid.. IF he tore his ACL do you realize how long that will take to get back to 100% too ****ing long to see silva fight again.. silva should fight another mid tier 205 opponent… especially if hes gonna “retire” soon.. I say give up on the silva at 185 for now.. and if your gonna retire soon then what do you got to lose..however we can all agree the rematch will be very good.. btw get off maynards dick.. wow he beat clementi.. hopefully kos will be able to fight Zenko.. that will be a good fight. I’m glad thiago won only because i want to see him fight gsp. regardless if penn beats him or not..
maynard will never be champ of the ufc, you must be high or his mother and he barley won. that was a boring fight gunslinger.
I agree the maynard fight was boring. But he got the job done. He impressed me with the win over edgar. If he can continue to improve the other fascets of his game and let his wrestlng carry him in the interim, I agree he could be a contender.
Knightboy, what do you mean he wanted the judges to think he was in control? Spider was dominating that fight. Won round 1 and 2 hands down. And I highly doubt that it would have went to the cards. Spider would have tko’d him or maybe even submitted him eventually.
I think Cote is DONE!!! Without total reconstructive surgery, he won’t even be able to train for Jello wrestleing. And it will always be a problem for him. He’s just one of those people that got delt that DNA design flaw. The bum knee. Some athletes get ‘em some don’t!
Anyone that thinks that fight was fixed is either slightly retarded or didn’t see the fight
If u want to say Cote just simply gave ok
But his knee did buckle in a weird fasion therefore meniscous tear could be in play I personally don’t believe it was the acl
Its not like Cote was the faborite I mean com’on fixed really u simple jackass
So everyone is hating on Cote because like i said and a few others might have said he will last longer than the one round blow out that was widely predicted ?
And to say the fight was rigged is an insult to Paddy he was doing fantastic he really surprised Silva after that knee i thought he was done seriously Cote has some ****ing chin that would have knocked down 99% of fighters.
Silva was acting like a dick at the start but soon realized he was not going to knock Paddy out and looked to get more serious as the fight went on.
Looking forward to a rematch which has to happen that’s if Hendo does not beat Silva before hand Cote deserve a lot of praise and trying to walk off a blown ACL is pretty ballsy
cote has balls and it makes no sense for the ufc to have anderson silva go to 205 when he has already said he will not try for the title in that division he would let lyoto win the belt…i dont silva hurting potential 205 contenders…yes i realize how long cote could be out..and he actually wont be out to long from what ive heard…silvas next fight should be against either okami or wait for cote…he shouldnt retire though there plenty of people who have a chance at him and could pull it out……demian meia- could submit silva?…..hendo- would destroy him a second time around i guarentee it……bisping- actually isnt that bad at mw and people need to realize it with a couple more fights bisping could be the one…i havent so much speed at mw since..well….since anderson slva….anyone who counts off the count is dumb he is really good….and plenty more people who could do good with a shot at him…dean lister- slick subs, only has lost once in the ufc by split….dan miller could even be an eventuall contender with his subs also
knightgirl624,
Sherk doesn’t fight as well as when he was on juice. He was a powerhouse, now, not so much. Koscheck is a descent fighter, but after he was killed by GSP, I realized he’ll never be a champ. I still enjoy watching him fight. His last fight with Chris Lytle, was awesome.
No one in th fights that aired last night deserve title consideration. Not even Alves. GSP will take him out in two rounds or less.
All I’m saying is UFC 90 sucked. It was not worthy of a PPV. And with the demise of competition (i.e. Elite XC), Dana can just throw together promotions like this.
I agree with Gunslinger second time round Hendo will beat Silva after the Palhares fight Hendo seemed rejuvenated.
Yup Silva moving up and if he beats potential title challengers with no intent of challenging for the belt would make the fighters look terrible and set them back.
Okami fight would make a lot sense providing he beats Lister but i see Leites getting a shot in between a showdown with Okami if Silva is serious about retiring next June (i doubt he will personally)
Personally i would love to see Thiago Alves vs Silva before his fight with Penn or GSP that would certainly get Silva motivated
I hope anyone who said Cote didn’t deserve that fight is eating their words. He took every shot that Silva could give – shots that ended every other fight – and never even went down.
To me, Silva looked lost and confused when he realized he couldn’t rely on the striking KO like he did in every other fight. I mean, Cote ate a front kick followed immediately by a Silva knee to the head. Silva also looked gassed after the second round. Had Cote not hurt himself, I could easily see him getting stronger as the fight went on. Especially with Silva looking like he had no clue what to do.
As for the whiners who say that card wasn’t worthy of a PPV….were you watching the same one I did? It was an entertaining card with some nice matchups and great fights. The Sherk-Griffin fight was great to watch. The Alves-Kos fight was very entertaining. The Dos Santos KO was just sick. I was enjoying the hell out of the Silva fight when Cote blew his knee out. And then gave us the Leites-McFedries fight after that to fill some time.
I guess some people won’t be happy until they get three title fights per month and never have to see their personal least favorite fighter. Shut up about the card already. It was good. It was entertaining. And Cote showed that you don’t have to be Franklin/Henderson to give Silva everything in a fight. In fact, if Franklin ever gets another shot at Silva I will be sorely disappointed. THAT would be a waste of a PPV.
And Kimie needs to shut her EliteXC-loving trap because she clearly has no clue what she is talking about. Someone put up the “No Trolls” sign, please.
So what we need is for someone to go ahead and beat Machida (easier said than done), that way Silva can fight at 205 and actually challenge for the title, because his friend will be out of the mix. These Brazilians and not fighting their friends and all that is annoying sometimes, especially because most of them are so good.
It was a great card DBiz what i could see of it my ****ing satellite reception kept ****ing up through out the evening especially during the Sherk vs Griffin fight i was looking forward to that fight
Alves vs Kos was fantastic and Kos certainly has some heart to continue through out the fight.
Cote is like the ****ing terminator man he will not go down and Silva seemed pretty perplexed by by the fight Cote had a solid gameplan.
I loved the show personally and to see Silva being thrown off by Cote unorthodox style must be encoring to the whole MW scene.
The Sherk Griffin fight was the fight of the night. Those 2 guys threw down hard. The Del Santos upercut was right on the button and hit the kill switch on Werdum.Gray maynard put me to sleep and almost made me miss the pitbull school Koscheck on good standup. i really thought Cote had a good game plan and the end of the fight was dissapointing but knee injuries happen and its a shame it happened. Thought it was a good card.
Sorry about the Canada slam. I wanted to get a rise out of our neighbors to the North. Oh by the way, win any Stanley Cups lately?
Timcat — lol, how many non-canadians on the nhl teams in the states -15%?? . LOL! shut it. MMA –what happened to Kimbo? CUNG LEE WOULD WIPE ALL THESE UFC CHUMPS!! WHY ISN’T HE IN THE UFC KICKING BUTT?? WHITE IS SCARED TO BRING IN THE BEST!!
cote’s bobbing and weaving wrkd perfectly…..okami isnt going to get the next shot cause lister is gnna sub him easily though
….. So im not the only one who thinks Cung Le would beat silva … Silva is a great fighter but cung would KO him , hands down …. I dont think silva would know what to do if he was to face someone with cung’s striking ability … he’d say ” lets take one just to see ” and BOOM its lights out man
Very surprised to read comments about the fight being fixed. Thats completely rediculous and makes no sense whatsoever. Anderson was having trouble with Cote, he couldn’t hurt him and that can be mentally damaging to someone like Silva. Silva has gotten used to dominating his opponents and Cote wasn’t one of them, Cote doesn’t have a scratch on him. Silva was getting nervous and if you listen to his post fight interviews, he keeps saying that “Cote couldn’t find me”. ” To all my future opponents, I don’t play around ” ….etc etc
Silva would have beat him unless Cote landed a lucky bomb but this fight brought Silva back down to earth. He’s human, he’s been beat before, he’s been dominated before and it can happen again.
The thought of it being rigged is how Mr. Dean immediately called the fight and said he couldn’t fight without really checking to see what happened… If Hendo beats Franklin then i wouldn’t mind seeing hendo and silva again. i’m a sucker for good fights and believe silva fights would be alot more exciting at the 205 class.. instead of trying to find someone at 185 to make it out of the 2nd round. but thats my opinion..
A lot of people think Silva was toying with him. I think he felt sorry for Patrick and didn’t want to embarrass him. There was no trash talk going in and no one who isn’t from Canada gave Cote a chance to win. I think he was just trying to make the fight interesting. Anderson Silva is a super nice guy, you can see that in his interviews. He was just having fun with him.
Tough night for Cote, he had to fight the champ and then hurts his knee, very unfortunate and not rigged at all.
Silva was definitely playing with Cote and i enjoyed it, just shows how good he actually is and he had the element of being able to end the fight whenever he wanted too.
Maynard proved to be the best boring figther in the UFC, alot of skills just extremely boring. And anyone who knocks themself out(not last night) drops down in my list.
Thiago looked like a monster, it will be interesting what type of gameplan GSP will bring against his standup, which is the best in the WW division. Props to Kos for trading with Thiago
Anyone who thinks Cote had a chance is out of their mind! Silva took NO damage in 2 and a half rounds besides a few leg kicks. Get with it people.
Totally disagree with this theory that Silva was playing with Cote seriously Anderson looked pretty miffed by Cote’s unorthodox style and Silva is renowned for his own unorthodox style.
Yes Silva was being a grade A dick in round 1 but soon as he felt Cote’s power he backed off a bit and when he landed that head kick followed by a knee and Cote smiled i swear Anderson face dropped he was stunned by Cote’s chin.
And for all those who say Silva would have KO’D him eventually need to realize he could not do this after some devastating shots it could have been a decision for all we know to say Silva could have KO’D him with ease is Bull**** **** knows what could have happened who expected Huerta knocking out Guida last year after Clay dominated the fight ?
Seriously no one knows how the fight could have panned out Cote could have got lucky…..
Ok my opionion of the main event from last night….
Anderson Silva I believe had a sparring match with Cote, Silva rocked Cote his leg kicks hurt Cote and probably led to the beginning of Cote’s meniscous slipping..
At ANY point Silva could have ended that fight yet he was just playing around it seemed… Cote didn’t deserve to be in that cage with Silva and Anderson knew it, I was laughing soo hard at points during that fight.. For those of u who train, u should have noticed that Silva looked to be going at 60% similar to when u spar with someone and u don’t want to hurt them cuz they aren’t anywhere near your skill set…. And when Silva wanted to hit/kick Cote he did at will…
For as knowledgable as most of you guys are on here, and as many times as most have seen Silva fight, I’m suprised at some of the comments, when Joe Silva and Dana White put someone that deserves to fight Silva in the cage with him he will engage and end the fight… From the moment “aint no sunshine” came on to the meniscous slit/tear Anderson was having fun and was going to spar with Cote and avoid the big punch, no fix no Cote could of won, Cote wasn’t getting the better of Silva…. Silva didn’t disrespect anyone or MMA he was just going @ 60% enjoying his sparring match
O but hey Cote made it to the 3rd yay congrats the only reason Cote made it to the 3rd is because Silva allowed him too
Cung v Silva would be awesome Doom
A good night of fights, Silva/Cote was interesting and Cote surprised me on his back, first time i’ve seen him there. Could of been a great finish but unfortunately the replays show a nasty injury. Im upset at all the idiots on this site who are claiming a fix, you guys are as bad for the sport as Shaw himself. I thought Cote stood well and absorbed what knocked down all others with that head kick. How long does it take to come back from that injury, are you ever the same? Its a shame.
Patrick Cotex showed he is a little better than everyone previously believed but Silva was not going 100% just like FR702 said. He’s hard headed but Silva would have definitely knocked him down and got a stoppage or a submission. If the rematch happens look for Cote to brag about how much further he went with Silva than anyone else. The Spider will be out of patience by then and this time he will end it in the 1st.
my boy FR702 nailed it right on the dot.. Next topic please…
for eveyone saying the fight was rigged how can you rig a torn ACL?
Doom your not alone i believe Cung would beat Silva too although doubt it will be a title fight as Hendo will have killed Silva before any potential match up
Brandon, I don’t think Cote will get a rematch with Silva before Silva “retires”, if he does tho I agree with you & thx
T3chn3tnium~ thank you cheers..
one thing i dont understand here is why everybodys ****ing about cote vs silva fight like it was rigged or silva could have finished cote anytine he wanted. all of u guys should watch it again just look at how good cote was moving in and out and his head movement was the best i’ve ever seen in ufc[it was more like a boxer]. now tell me how the **** do u hit a guy when he’s moving like than. i mean just think about it.silva is a very good fighter but he aint no ****in god okay.cote was pushing silva and making him miss at the same time and the couple big shots that connected cote just took em like nothing happened[notice he didn stumble at all]. im not saying cote is gonna beat silva in a rematch forsure but cote has the style that can beat silva. u guys plz pay lil more attention to the fights before u make these arrogant comments.
LOL @ Hendo killing Spider. Hendo might win, but he’s not killing Spider. I’d bet on Spider.
Silva was not going 60%. He was scared when his best shots didn’t even phase Cote. You could see the shock in his eyes. He was gassed, hanging on the cage at the end of the second. Get off his nuts, fanboys. He underestimated Cote and it showed badly. End of story.
DbiZ, one, I’m not on anyone’s nuts.. Two clearly we are going to disagree
I don’t know if u have ever been in a fight or trained but honestly Silva wasn’t gassed, he may have been “suprised” that the knee didn’t drop Cote but it took three knees to drop Franklin in their first fight..
But hey u can believe whatever u would like I’m not too concerned about it…..
Hell I will do u a favor and re watch the fight here in a bit and see if I’m wrong in my view of Silva going 60% just for u Dbiz
so just because cote took a knee to the face he won? am i correct on this assumption? you could almost guarantee that the ref would stop the fight if he ate 2 or 3 more of those.. was a nasty cut from what i remember..
Yep, that’s what all the Spider bashers are saying. They are giving Cote a medal for not getting ko’d and not delivering any damage to Spider. What a joke.
The fact is, Spider was dominating the fight on points. He would have won one way or another. All he was doing was waiting to counter an attack. Fact is, Cote didn’t have much of one lol.
Why does every f*ckin’ thread on MMAFrenzy have to include a handful of idiots that insist one of the fights was fixed??!! If you assh#les think all these fights are rigged, do us all a favour and stop watching them. Use your time to join a circle jerk club where you can sit around with your homo friends and all complain about how crooked UFC fights are.
Was a shame Cote blew out his knee – I thought the fight was heading towards an interesting conclusion, although there was no doubt that Silva was dominating up to that point.
Just did Dbiz soo here u go
457 first rd. Cote opens the fight with a left leg kick
Silva doesn’t engage til 208 of the round he took 3 leg kicks and a few punches, Silva did some capoieda goes in lands all 3 punches to Cote’s face
158 Cote lands a nice body kick
134 Silva lands a left head kick to Cote
128 Silva lands a jumping/flying knee which “rocks” Cote and opens a cut on Cote head
019 right leg kick landed by Silva rolls Cote’s leg over
Great head movement by Cote
Silva lands at will
Cote has a chin forsure
443 Silva lands a multi punch combo
439 Silva lands straight left and snaps Cote’s head back
434 Silva right leg kick turns Cotes leg over again
432 Silva’s switch kick lands
429 Silva goes for a flying knee,Cote a spinning back fist the block each other
348 clinch breaks Cote goes for the homerun and misses
335 Cote rushes in for a takedown Silva counters spins Cote and takes control
300 Cote lands a couple of GREAT elbows to Silvas head
255 failed armbar by Cote
244 Silva offers Cote a hand up
044 Silva right leg kick folds Cote leg again, Cote shoots for single leg
042 Silva tries a mule kick
037 same as 044
010 Silva lands knees to the body
In between rounds Silva doesn’t sit and doesn’t looked gassed at all
Cote signals 3 to Silva showing how proud he is to make it to the third round against Silva
After Cote pops his right knee and all is said and done Silva shows respect by bowing to Cote
Silva didn’t look to be fighting that hard ie 60% ok perhaps 70%
Cote did have good head movement but when Silva wanted to touch him he did at will best thing Cote did was elbow Silva when he had him in his gaurd imo
@Pete
Cote did have good head movement yes, he didn’t make Silva miss, Cote did stumble twice flying knee, and switch kick…
Hope my arrogant statements are clear
@Dbiz, I know we will disagree but whatever Cote did pretty good forsure but it was a matter of time til Silva went 100% and ended the fight
So I stand by original “arrogant” statement, cheers…
Very impressed with cote’s performance.I was calling him an idiot for saying he was gonna stand with silva, because i thought travis exposed the only way he could be beat. After watching cote it was obvious his game plan was to stay as elusive as possible, and he did a great job moving around,i don’t think he was winning but to take anderson to 3rd was immpessive. My hats off to him. It’s unfortunate it had to end the way it did.hopefully it will happen again sooner than later.
FR702 buddy that switch kick didn land i just watched it again cote’s arm was blocking it and cote didn stumble at all. i mean took some shots but he wasnt rocked at any moment and ofcourse everybody’s different opinion about this fight but i think it was still anybody’s fight. u know none of them was really rocked or gassed . i just dont like ppl that give cote no credit . i’ve never been a cote fan but after this fight he sure gained my respect.
As Cote gained my respect as well he did some good things and took some shots
And if u block with the arm and still makes contact with the head I count that as connecting but to each their own I guess
silva is a showboater
FR702
Thats some impressive analysis of the fight, you should replace mike goldberg as commentator.
Gunslinger
Yeah Silva is a showboater, but come on he’s the best so he can. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Babe Ruth, Gordie Howe were all show boaters and they did it because they backed it up with their skill. Its unfortunate that Silva couldn’t back it up with finishing Cote, but my money is on Silva playing no games his next fight.
Oh and i don’t mean to rip on your boy a little more, but Silvas showboating was a thousand times more exciting than Maynard’s ass.
Bfree, I thank you for your sarcasim, I just wanted to allow people where I was coming from, I did like your answer about showboating as well
I think that Silva should fight in 205 for a bit then when Cote is ready, come back down for the shot at the title. There maybe another fight for Silva in 185 between then but chances are he will win and face Cote in a year.
If Silva was indeed only going at 60%, there goes the title of greatest p4p, right out the window. The greatest p4p fighter wouldn’t dick around for 10 minutes just to make a fight last longer.
So which is it? Did Cote confound him, or is he just another hack in a weak division?
hmmm mma the fastest growing sport in the world. i would much rather watch mma than boxing. period. there gonna be injuries and anyone that cant see his knee pop out is blind as a bat. for sure one year of rehab is not what cote wants lol. so wise up people. **** happens. get over it and lets all clamor for a GSP vs. Spider fight. that would be the fight of the decade. so yeah lets hammer ufc with request for that superfight. or have anderson fight fedor would be another super fight. appreciate it guys for the best sport in the world. not all fights gonna go the way we want. anyways peace out.
Cote isn’t a hack, I would say he did the best he could have done…
Unfortunately he lost his knee..
If u want to take the p4p away from Silva because of that fight, ok, I think Silva is the best MW in the world
I’m simply saying that if you are the best at something, you don’t half-ass anything for any reason. Period. That includes going 60% in a fight. I never GAVE Silva the best p4p crown, so there’s no way I can take it away. To me, that lies one weight class down where there is legitimate competition for a title.
P.S. I never implied that Cote was the hack.
ok Dbiz, i understand where u are coming from, i believe that you understand where i stand… No worries at all, it is what it is, cheers to you my friend
fedor is p4p
silva would kill rush. only because of reach.. but i would like to see that fight. and silva vs fedor would be interesting.. fedor is explosive.. also a dream match.. don’t forget about the lesnar couture fight tho
thats a dream match imo..
Fedor would kill silva ………end of story . Thats not even a fair fight IMO . I’d say fedor puts him away in less than 3 minutes .
nice analysis FR, really impressive when you see how much Silva landed vs. how little cote landed.
i’d really love to see silva vs gsp fight after bj vs gsp and its quite possible too before silva retires[i just think gsp is gonna beat bj not easily like few guys say but he will]. u dont have to hate me for this but i really really belive gsp has the the perfect tools to beat silva i mean his wrestling is better than anyone in ufc, both are jiu-jitsu black belts, gsp’s striking is good but not as great as silva’s.but gsp is one of the lightest guy on his feet always on his toes just jumps out of trouble[other than that serra fight dont know what the hell was wrong with him that night]. Am i saying gsp beats silva easily NOOOOO hell no.Silva can knock gsp out anytime only if he connects which isn’t very easy task looking at gsp’s latest fights. So overall i think if gsp doesn’t play muay thai trading game with silva he does have a very solid chance
Silva isn’t no Fitch, Koch, or Serra though. GSP’s best chance would be to take him down, but Silva is a pretty big dude for GSP. It would be an interesting fight for sure.
I’m sick of hearing that Fedor is p4p the best MMA fighter. He’s barely an MMA fighter since most of his fights lately, aside from Big Doofey, have been freak matches against sumo guys or that giant Korean who also was barely an MMA fighter (2 total MMA fights?).
He’s much more interested in sambo and payday freak shows to be considered the best p4p MMA fighter. I still give that title to some bald guy at 170.
Big Doofey! Haahahha
Gsp could move up and beat Anderson silva
