Matt LindlandMatt Lindland and Renato “Babalu” Sobral will square off at a catchweight of 195 pounds at Affliction “Day of Reckoning”, according to Sherdog.

Though not yet officially confirmed, “Day of Reckoning” is expected to take place on January 24th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and will air live on pay-per-view.

Both fighters have verbally agreed to the matchup and 195 pound catchweight. Lindland, a middleweight, will move up 10 pounds while Sobral will shed 10 pounds in the first step of an eventual move to the 185-pound middleweight division.

Lindland bounced back from an early-2007 loss to Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction’s debut show, “Banned”, in July, defeating Fabio Negao via unanimous decision.

Sobral is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, including a July unanimous decision victory over Mike Whitehead at “Banned”. Prior to his bout against Lindland in January, Sobral will take on Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Bobby Southworth on November 21st.

The Law better come prepared for Babalu…. that is if Affliction pulls this card off… Southworth should be an ok warm up match for Babalu Nov 21 for the StrikeForce title then on to The Law could be a rather interesting fight tho

  • JOHNBOY says:

  • JOHNBOY says:

    hey kris

off subject but u no why dana ant done one of those blog things he normally does, there some good viewing plus mma live ant been on for a while???

  • YZFOXRACING says:

IF AFFLICTION WAS SMART THEY WOULD RESCHEDULE… UFC WILL PROBABLY THROUGH CHUCK OR RANDY ON THIS CARD… TO GET VIEWERS AWAY FROM AFFLICTION… DANA IS TO SMART. AND HAS TO MANY WEAPONS

  • Cage45 says:

Lindland is currently running for a House spot in OR, if he winds I would assume this puts his MMA career on hold…this is only an assumption, I’m not sure how it would work. Anyway, they’re probably waiting for the outcome of that election before they announce this fight.

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

fightin on my bday nice i might hafta actually watch this one

  • Surfingk5 says:

This is a good match up. I remember when I really like Babalu. His whoopin from Chuck changed him. Too bad. I’ll take Lindland.

  • FR702 says:

Babalu was the F~ing man (not that he isn’t a total bad ass rightnow) in one night he beat Shogun Rua, Prangley, Jermey Horn… That’s pretty bad ass, hell he has lost to Chuck, Hendo, Fedor that right there is four of the mans 7 losses.. But Chuck did destroy him twice which are some wonderful ko’s by Chuck, I think Babalu can be dominating around the world not so much in the UFC. I don’t think he will be back anytime soon

  • The Gunslinger says:

lindland will destroy babalu is a shell of his former self…..dont forget fr702 ..he may have beat shogun but that was early in shoguns carrear and dont forget babalu also lost to jason lambert……lindland is just an unstoppable force once he gets rolling he is one of the only people i could see having a chance at beating silva…along with hendo and a few other guys

  • FR702 says:

O I’m doubting Linland at all, and he did beat Rua early in Rua’s carrer, also remember that was in Horn’s heyday as well , back in the day when fighting 3 top guys in a single night meant something…..
Linland is a phenominal fighter and I’ve wanted to see this match for sometime hopefully Affliction comes thru, cheers

  • Surfingk5 says:

i just think lindland is due

  • FR702 says:

*He as in Babalu (first line)*

  • timcat says:

Bobalu wins this. Matt Lindland is overated and washed up. He smells like 2 weeks. watching him lumber through the first Affliction card was embarassing. There is no way he should have went the distance with the guy he fought.

  • KOuch says:

I think Babalu takes this but I hope not. I have not gotten over his penis headed actions yet. (not releasing his submission)

  • KOuch says:

Despite being tabbed to headline an MMA event in Mobile, Ala., an injury has forced “The Ultimate Fighter 6″ veteran War Machine (formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver) off of tonight’s card.

Scheduled opponent Mike Dolce broke the news

    HA HA HA!

  • B W says:

Great fight. Can’t wait to see it. I think babalu takes it by sub in the second. The law is probably spending more time campaining and less time training these days.

It’s time for people to get over the Renato not releasing the sub incident. Punk move, yes, but time to move on. He’s a incredible fighter and I’m looking forward to a good fight. War babalu.
