Brett Rogers vs. Paul Buentello Booked For EliteXC “A Night of Champions”
EliteXC heavyweight contender Brett Rogers (7-0) will battle veteran Paul Buentello (26-10) at EliteXC “A Night of Champions” on November 8th in Reno, Nevada.
Rogers, who was on the short list of future opponents for Kimbo Slice prior to his 14-second loss to Seth Petruzelli earlier this month, holds an undefeated 7-0 record, including a 3-0 mark in EliteXC. He has yet to have a fight leave the first round, stopping all seven of his opponents with strikes in the opening frame. After knocking off Ralph Kelly and James Thompson in his first two EliteXC appearances, Rogers TKO’d Jon Murphy in the first round in his most recent bout at EliteXC “Primetime” in May.
Buentello, a UFC veteran, won four-straights bouts, including his final UFC victory over Gilbert Aldana, before losing to Alistair Overeem at a Noveber Strikeforce event. He bounced back at Affliction “Banned” in July, defeating Gary Goodridge via unanimous decision.
The matchup joins Robbie Lawler (c) vs. Joe Villasenor for the EliteXC middleweight title, Eddie Alvarez vs. Nick Diaz for the vacant EliteXC lightweight title, Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante vs. TBD, Hector Lombard vs. Scott Smith, and Kaitlin Young vs. Sarah Kaufman on the “A Night of Champions” lineup.

A night of champions??? huh?
Yup, “A Night of Champions” is the name of the November 8th event in Reno which will air on Showtime. Two championship bouts (Lawler-Villasenor and Alvarez-Diaz) are on the card, hence the name.
I like Villasenor, he is a great fighter and worthy of the UFC. I care less for Nick Diaz, he seems to have lost his edge or abilities and looks slow and sluggish on his feet but likes to talk like a champion…what a joke, even Noons could beat him again easily.
i like rogers hes got great hands and lets be honest he doesn’t mix his words, elite should pay more attention to this guy rather then that joker bimbo, hope diaz wins an all!!
I wonder if Villasenor is going to last more than 27 seconds this time?
I hope Alvarez demolishes Diaz
Brett v Paul um stand up fight that ProElite won’t have to bribe the fighters to do…
I want to see Eddie Alvarez with a belt around his waist, since he should have won that Dream Grand Prix. Diaz better learn how to box, and fast.
Hope diaz go’s down. And would of like to have seen rodgers end the short reign of kimbo, rather than petruzzeli. But i’m actually looking foward to the lawler/villasenor fight.Does anybody know if and when kung lee is fighting again?
@FR702 THAT WAS A GOOD POINT. IF ELITEXC IS TRYING TO FIX FIGHTS WHY DID THEY PICK A GUY WITH THE GROUND BEING HIS GAME WHEN THEY HAVE BRETT ROGERS OVER HERE THAT WOULD HAVE STOOD UP WITH HIM AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BEING INVESTIGATED…
KRIS WHATS THE WORD NO THAT WHOLE ELITE DEAL? ABOUT TRYING TO FIX FIGHTS?
CORRECTION
KRIS WHATS THE WORD ON THAT WHOLE ELITE DEAL? ABOUT TRYING TO FIX FIGHTS?
i think buentello vs. rogers will be a fun fight to watch. i dont see it leaving the first round though! i would like to see joey v. take out lawler… hard to call it, though. all of alvarez’s wins have been due to strikes, and only 6 out of the 16 fights have gone past the first round! we really dont know about his eddie’s effectiveness on the ground, though. diaz has a great chin so he has very good chance of submitting alvarez! anything can happen…
Thx YZ, good to see you back posting… and i dont believe the EliteXC would have ever have put Brett in as the replacement for Shammy, due to the fact that they thought that by paying Seth to stand EliteXC would get a highight ko from Kevin Ferguson, yet due to Murphys law they got a highlight ko from Seth on Kevin, and perhaps they (EliteXC/ProElite) figured that Brett probably would have ko’d Kevin anyways….. if Paul wins v Brett i would definately like to see Brett v Kevin next o wait i probably wont watch another EliteXC with Kevin in it and not think did EliteXC/ProElite payoff his opponent?
Nothing new to report on the EliteXC thing. Florida’s investigating but I don’t expect anything to come of it. I don’t mind giving fighters specified bonuses for stoppages but I feel they should be for knockouts and submissions, should be equal, and should be laid out before the fight.
I also feel the UFC’s bonus (Knockout, Sub, and Fight of the Night) system is much better, but I think what EliteXC was doing was legal, the situation was poorly handled from the start, though a lot of what happened can be attributed to the fight-night changes.
@ Kris why is what EliteXC/ProElite did with Seth (giving a Ko bonus before the fight) legal? Perhaps I misunderstood its been a hell of a month I may have missed something, cheers…
