Report: Shamrock Paid To Stand Up With Slice
The controversy from EliteXC “Heat” has continued to spread as F4WOnline is reporting that Ken Shamrock was also being paid by EliteXC to stand up with Kimbo Slice:
For what it’s worth, we heard in the days leading up to the fight that Ken Shamrock was being paid to stand with him as well. It’s a pretty shady way of doing business, and while it’s not outright working the fight it is attempting to give one man an advantage — or a perceived advantage, as did didn’t help Kimbo one goddamn bit — over another.
The news comes on the heels of Seth Petruzelli disclosing that EliteXC also paid him to stand and trade with Slice. Only time will tell if anything comes from all of this, though, regardless of the ultimate outcome, this situation, coupled with Jared Shaw’s over-the-top reaction to Slice’s loss, paints a very poor picture of the struggling promotion.

Great follow up Kris. I read the Petruzelli interview and was hoping you would post “it” or something closely related. Elite does not surprise me at all with these antics. I am pretty sure Gary Shaw has paid boxers to take a fall in the past so why not ruin MMA by paying a fighter to stand, play into their opponents only strength and avoid the ground against a BS suprstar…..Kimbo. I do not want to hate on Kimbo anymore. He is trying hard but personally I am not a fan. However, he is training and trying……I am just typing. It is Elite’s fault that Kimbo is percieved badly by the masses.
I have stated for a while im sure the 1st guy Kimbo fought took a dive. kimbo hit him with 1 body shot and 1 elbow and he on the floor tapping before Kimbo can get off another strike in. i dont care your caliber if you are a pro fighter, you should be able to take 1 body shot and a elbow that didnt land clean and not tap to strikes like girl. im sure that guy was paid to raise the myth of Kimbo. So i wasnt shocked when i heard Ken or Seth were paid to not expose kevin as the sham he is. Pro elite is a joke and is a reason I have long been for 1 org running all of the major MMA.
on a side note Seth snitches to the media about how shady Pro Elite is and he expects to sign a new deal? Pro Elite is even stupider than i thought if they give him a deal.
I REALLY FEEL BAD FOR KIMBO (AS A MAN NOT A FIGHTER) HE IS JUST DOING THE BEST HE CAN, AND HE HAS ALL THIS SIHT GOING ON! TO SOME IT MIGHT SEEM THAT IS A SHMUCK? The Shaws are ruining our sport. When will it come out that the referee was paid to stop the Thompson fight early or not stop it when Kimbo too 18 unanswered elbows. This just puts more doubt in Elite XC’s outcomes!!!

I really hope this is not true because if it is and it gets back to CBS, there contract is over. Not only the CBS contract but, they may lose out on a couple of sponsors and lose fans. Nobody wants to support a corrupt organization.
Wow, I was starting to like EliteXC; as of right now, not so much. This might be an exaggeration, but this incident could be really damaging to MMA. Fans could start to develop that every fight they see is fixed in some way, shape or form. MMA doesn’t need this crap. Think about how many fans who question every baseball player with muscles because of steroids. I’m just saying that this reality is possible, though I doubt it’ll come to fruition. Dumba$$ ProElite.

We will never know whether or not all of this true, because it is more than likely that none of this shady business was ever put in writing. However, it doesn’t matter if it’s true or not, because the damage has already been done; Elite XC will continue to deny deny deny, but it doesn’t matter. They are permanently tainted now.
these asses deserve to b tarred and feathered and then dragged by a horse so we mma fans can throw rotten fruit at them. i mean if u wanted kimbo to have an advantage that bad y not just let him fight some lightweights or even better some bantamweights. im disgusted by this and i hope that the commissions will not give them a liscense to promote shows anymore. or atleast not untill that cancer known as jared shaw is no longer involved in the orginization. and if he wont leave then elite needs to b disbanded cuz this kind of BS is the exact same reason boxin has 1 foot in the grave.
Im so pissed that an organization with some legitimate fighters would stoop to this kind of crap. Elitexc ownership seems to be working hard to ruin their show, these shifty pricks are bringing the worst of Boxing and Pro Wrestling into a sport which is shooting for legitimate standings in the sport world, they are tainting what so many others have achieved this far.

While they may have happened, often the refs will come running in, when a fighter goes down. They do this to put themselves in a better position to see if the fighter is out or not. He may have stepped in thinking he was done, and then realized there was still some fight left in him (he did brace himself on all fours rather than just laying on his belly). I don’t know if the ref getting closer and/or changing his initial reaction is cause for concern.
Wow what a fn joke elite is.Thats how they try to protect kimbo,clearly they were afraid of him getting submitted.Thats pretty close to paying off a fighter,not quite but close.
Elite XC, while trying to promote Kimbo Slice, is pushing aside Brett Rogers, a younger and much better fighter. Rogers deserves the hype because of his results and fighting ability. Elite XC needs to start promoting fighters based on their skills, not their hype.
doesn’t surprise me at all. i’ve watched replays of kimbo vs cantrell and i think it was a fixed fight. the thompson fight was contreversial. the whole thing with nick diaz losing the title shot, gettin to stay the number one contender, and then stripping the belt from noons so nick could fight is ridiculous. in my opinion not only is elite manufacturing who gets to win, but they aren’t even tryin to hide it. this is why they will never succeed. no real mma fan’s will ever buy into it. also imo, alot of people think that kimbo and elite are good for the sport cuz of the exposure but i disagree cuz if that’s what i saw as my first impression, i doubt i’d wanna watch any further cuz i’d expect that the one who got the network deal was the best.
I think Dana employed this strategy during the Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva fight. I think they paid Wanderlei to stand up against Chuck.
I was very surprised when Silva never attempted to shoot on chuck and get him on the ground. They may have even paid Keith Jardine and Rashad Evens to stand up against Chuck also.
Now it appears that this goes on in the UFC with Dana White.

that’s kinda questionable. i for one have a hard time believing that the UFC is squeeky clean but regarding those examples i’m not so sure i agree. wandy’s a good stand up fighter and chuck has a great take down defense so it didn’t surprise me at all that the fight went that way. jardine had a strategy and stuck to it and won. rashad did the same.
the only somewhat questionable strategies i can think of that the UFC is kinda noticeable with is protecting certain fighters by giving them weak competition. bisping is the worst example of this, and huerta (although i like the guy) falls under the same category.
I think 2cups is right about bisping. I was talking to a friend about bisping and we think that Dana needs him to win because of the European market. Dana & co. is spending alot of money to set-up fights overseas. UFC definitely needs a local superstar over there. Dana would love to make Bisping the ‘Chuck Liddell’ of Europe.
i dont think some people understand exactly how much better at mdw bisping is than at lhw …he can pose a legitimate challenge to silva nad no im not joking……ive never seen someone so relentless,fast and powerful at mdw before except silva so bisping will get his shot and has a good chance at winning
i’m not gonna disagree that he’s better at 185 but to honestly think he’s a threat to silva when all he’s done is face entry level fighters is kinda off the mark. 185 isn’t the most stacked division and he’s still yet to fight a legit contender. leben is a tough dude and will be his first real challenge but i wouldn’t say leben’s a top 5. let bisping beat henderson or marquardt before everyone starts talkin title shot.
Elite could be cool if they did business with someone other than Affliction and different people running the show than the Shaw family. F-ing jerks. Boxing influence and antics….f’em. POS. Poisonous bastards. MMA is still pure and clean or so it was. Dicks.
I agree with you Gunslinger i think Bisping could beat Silva but i really hope they do not push him too soon as i do not think he is anywhere title contention.
Bisping needs at least another 3-5 fights before a showdown with Silva although i have this feeling they will throw him in there not long after TUF 9.
On another note i watched UFC 83 the other night and Bisping was awesome in that fight if he can that type of aggression and relentlessness he will be MW in 2010 IMO
it pisses me off when people suggest fights are fixxed! Kimbo fights are the only ones that i know of that seem to be fixxed! The UFC are NOT gunna try to change the fighting style of any fighter in any way shape or form! ecsept lick with “the truth” when fighters are just lay z! they will NOT jepordize their good name, they know that fighters will open there mouth as soon as they get cut from the UFC or if the fight doesn’t go their way! look at Seth he beat Kimbo in 14 seconds and he didn’t know enough to keep quit! then he had to back peddle and make a lyer out of himself! THE UFC DOES NOT HAVE FIXXED FIGHTS NEVER HAS AND NEVER WILL! PEOPLE STAND WITH CHUCK BECAUSE HIS TAKE DOWN DEFENSE IS THE BEST IN THE GIZ-AME!
