EliteXC “Heat” Results: Petruzelli Knocks Out Slice In 14-Seconds
Seth Petruzelli, a last-minute replacement for an injured Ken Shamrock, knocked out Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson just 14-seconds into their main event matchup at EliteXC “Heat” on Saturday night at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Shamrock, who was to meet Slice in the “Heat” main event, was forced to withdraw from the matchup after suffering a cut over his left eye earlier in the day. EliteXC ultimately tapped UFC veteran Seth Petruzelli, who was to fight Aaron Rosa in a light heavyweight bout on the event’s preliminary card, to replace Shamrock in the main event against Slice.
Slice closed the distance at the opening bell but Petruzelli connected first with a right that rocked Slice and sent him to the canvas. Slice attempted to recover from the blow but Petruzelli reigned down punches to force the referee to intervene just 14-seconds into the opening round. The upset loss capped off EliteXC’s third “Saturday Night Fights” event on CBS.
In the event’s lone championship bout Jake Shields retained his welterweight title by submitting a game Paul Daley in the second-round after a close opening round to their 170-pound championship matchup.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski stopped former IFL champ Roy Nelson in a featured heavyweight matchup presented in partnership with Affliction. Arlovski knocked out Nelson in the second-round with a series of punches punctuated by a right that sent Nelson to the canvas.
Gina Carano, “The Face of Women’s MMA”, kept her undefeated record intact with a unanimous decision victory over Kelly Kobold. Carano picked Kobold apart throughout the fight, bloodying her opponent with accurate Muay Thai strikes and nearly finishing her off with a trio of kicks with just seconds remaing. The judges returned scores of 29-28, 30-27, and 30-27 all in favor of Carano.
In the evening’s first televised bout Benji Radach knocked out former EliteXC middleweight champion Murilo “Ninja” Rua via strikes midway through the second-round.
In preliminary card action Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos defeated Yoko Takahashi via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27), Connor Heun defeated Edson Berto via second-round TKO due to strikes, Mikey Gomez defeated Lorenzo Borgomeo via second-round armbar submission, Bryan Hamade defeated David Gomez via first-round guillotine submission, and Nicolae Cury defeated Jorge Bouchat via first-round submission due to strikes.

Great card and great upsets. Now I see why Dana White passed on Nelson. Ninja Rua didn’t come prepared for a battle. Did everybody see Dan Henderson in Benji Radach’s corner? No wonder he was soo dominant. I can’t wait to see the Gina Carano/Cyborg fight. What’s Kimbo going to do now? Bodyguard?
Props to Kimbo for fighting. That earned my respect.
Slice was finally shown to be the scrub he really is. He is a bum. I guess he will go back to the streets now with his homies and beat up homeless people. Slick move Affliction, partner with a promotion whose main draw is a bum and gets beat down in a few seconds by someone who was susposed to fight on the undercard. How gay is Shamrock? Idiot. I can’t believe Tito is being signed by Elite XC. If these promotions keep signing these sorry, weak a$$ washups then it will surely be death for them. Horrible.
Dietrich, i don’t understand why that earned your respect. Every fighter is supposed to be like that, always ready to fight anyone. Petruzelli was at Light Heavyweight and Kimbo was at Heavyweight for crying out loud, if anyone should’ve earned your respect it should be Seth Petruzelli for fighting the larger, bigger name fighter on a couple hours notice, especially in a main event fight. Anyway…
Really impressed with Radach getting the upset and KO’ing Rua, great fight! Arlovski looked good tonight, got a nice win.
Jake Shields did pretty good too, i thought his jits looked a little sloppy in comparison to some of his other fights, but all in all a good performance against a pretty game opponent.
Kimbo agreeing to fight someone a weight class down earns respect? Who are you and what have you done with Dietrich?
Petruzelli showed that Kimbo has been all hype since the Youtube crap started. Maybe he’ll just go away now. I hope Bas Rutten cuts him loose because he is a total embarrassment.
a surprisingly decent night of fights for the elite/affliction duo. carrano looked good but idk if she can eat guyborgs punches like she did kobold. one of these days im gonna stop pickin the rua brothers cuz everytime i do they lose. arlovski looked great against a tough guy.(? idk ive neva seen big country fight before tonight but he did eat some stiff punches) jake sheilds did not look like a guy that should b callin out gsp(i believe he did that after he beat nick thomson). and like i said seth is in my top 10 fav fighters for derailin the kimbo train and in the process sendin elite into a nose dive from which it wont recover. bye bye mr shaw mayb kimbo can get u a job workin for realitykings. on a slightly diff note wat r the chances of kimbo vs rogers still happenin? cuz on the broadcast they said the winner of kimbo vs shamrock would get rogers next? i say kimbo fights rogers just cuz of all the **** talkin and then if kimbo wins hes titos first fight wit elite. anyone else down wit that?
Great night of fights that ends with an upset.
Benji showed up and was much more prepared for this fight than Rua
Props to my boy Jake Shields for kicking the @$$ I knew he would. A
great showing of his ground game.
Carano was just plain awesome. The eventual match between her and Guyborg will be a great one I’d pay for if EliteXC charged for their fights. They don’t.
Roy “Big Country” Nelson (who I like) did me proud by lasting 1 round with Arlovski. Arlovski was a helluva starter match for his new career and there was no doubt he would lose. I think Nelson may finally realize that the belly has got to go. Kudos to him for lasting a round and kudos for Arlovski for showing he’s still in the game.
Kimbo…after rewinding this fight over and over I have come to the conclusion that one of three things was at play here. Either Kimbo took a fall and made a lot of bettin’ men a lot of money…or he has a glass jaw. While I know a lot of you dislike Kimbo…I don’t think any of you would say he had a jaw THAT fragile. The third and most likely option is the sweet spot. Every human jaw has one and his was discovered.
All in all a great night of fights with excellent production value. They put the same commentators out there and each of them was signifigantly improved from the last time. This, once again, shows that EliteXC deserves to be where they are and I hope they can continue even with a loss by Kimbo.
While this wasn’t as entertaining as the Vice Presidential Debate, Shields’ excellent win made me extremely happy and I hope he can one day be the real face of EliteXC.
What do you guys think?
One other thing. Kris/Eric…you told me the site had improvements coming and BOY were you not kidding! Great job!
There is no way that Kimbo was involved in a “work”. The original fight was a scratch the night of. There would be no line for a fight made last minute. Kimbo got rocked.
Thanks Dannyboy, there’s still a lot more on tap in the coming weeks but I’m glad you like it.
Get Gina against miguel torres hahah
You people are casual ignorant fans. Randy Couture lost his 5th and 6th fight. Lidell lost his 3rd. Anderson Silva who some say is the best pound for pound fighter in the world lost his 1st fight. Matt Hughes lost his 4th fight. Shamrock who was a great MMA fighter lost his 5th and 7th fights. To say that Kimbo is done is just pure ignorance. You people are casual fans that don’t understand that MMA is a sport of maturation and learned skills. I’m not a huge Kimbo fan. However every fighter gets a lucky punch every now and then. Nobody will even remember who beat Kimbo tonight.
Kimbo Lost. NICE
Okay, I’m not some big Kimbo nut hugger but some of you guys are just ridiculous with your bashing of him. Face the facts, if you were in his place you would be doing the exact same thing he is doing, making money by the hype. Sure, he is nowhere close to a top level figher and he got beat fair and square. How many undefeated fighters do you know? He was bound to get caught on the sweet spot sooner or later. I think sometimes you guys get so upset that ignorant people say things like “hes the greatest figher ever” but you cannot hate on the man himself. He was stand up about it, congratulated the guy and all. I mean if he fought that guy 10 times he would probably win 7-8 of them but he didn’t tongiht. Theres really no need for anyone to bash him like you are. You bash because he is one dimentional(see Jake Shields performance) but there are plenty of other fighters that are one dimensional. Slice will win the majority of his fights because whether you want to acknowledge it or not he has pretty sweet striking skills, he got caught. End of story.
It makes me think about what Frank Mir said on the Ultimate Fighters last week. “If you haven’t ever been caught then you haven’t been fighting the right competition” or something of that nature. It holds true for everyone. This may make Kimbo more hungry and even better now that he knows hes not invincible.
evidently Seth didnt get the memo that he was suppose to lose. and i swear to god Gus Johnson is a joke, if i have to hear him scream at the top of his lungs that seth is rocky and how it is the greatest upset in MMA history imma be sick. card was ok, arlovski’s win was nice. I like my athletes to look like athletes and roy doesnt fit that bill. seriously he was gassed in the 1st after throwing maybe 15 punches the whole round, put down the fried twinkie and go run fat boy (nice investment affliction). I like how quickly Pro elite is falling apart, Kimbo losses, KJ is stripped, there isnt any really any big fights they can try to promote. I know they got Tito, and Tito will win against the b class fighters they have in that org. when Frank Tito is possibly the best fight you have left you know you are in trouble.
Henry,
Kimbo already knew he wasn’t invincible, if I remember correctly he had been KOed in his you tube fights, but I could be wrong about that. A lot of the Kimbo hate is because of the fact that he’s been babied and protected from the time he stepped into the cage. I don’t think people bash him because he’s one dimensional, they bash him because he’s all hype and hasn’t really face anybody. If you think people on this site bash people for being one dimensional you should check out some of the conversations about Houston Alexander. A lot of us like the guy, we just wish he wasn’t one dimensional.
I think one thing that benefited Petruzelli was the way he caught Kimbo he didn’t have to punch through all that padding afforded by Kimbo’s beard.
Oh yeah, Kimbo made me forget one of the things I was going to say about the event, but I just remembered it. The announcers are terrible. Frank should stick to fighting, the black guy’s ok, but the dude with the pink tie is awful. I would really like for him to stand still when he talks rather than constantly bobbing his head up and down like he does.
Knockouts do happen -
chuck get knocked out worse 2 of his last 4 fights (quinton & rashad)
randy got knocked out by chuck
st. pierre got knocked out by serra
It even happens to the best in the sport
How is that the girls fight is more fun to watch than the guys… man this was pretty sad showing… GO GINA…everyone else, whatever…
Dave5555, chuck fought a guy who was ****en 17-0… kimbo fought a guy who got owned in his last 3 fight…
uh stupid?
Dave,
All of those guys you mentioned got knocked out by real fighters, Petruzelli is a TUF washout! Much love to Petruzelli for exposing Kimbo as the MMA trash that he is.
Dave in this case it even happened to the worst in the sport!!!
Justin,
Few things. I understand what you are saying. But Kimbo is not a COMPLETE joke like people make him out to be. He is just as good as Houston Alexander. I love Houston, but he doesn’t recieve the hate that Slice does for being one dimensional. Kimbo is making $$$$$$$ doing what he loves, hes new at the game and will never be great but he is respectable. For someone to say hes a joke is crazy. Sure I would have loved to have seen him fight a big name fighter early on, but I mean that would be dumb for EliteXC. They made themselves and Kimbo lots of money by “babying” him. Something is telling me that in the future Kimbo will come up with a huge upset of his own.
As for the announcing, no its not the greatest but if any of you saw Afflictions first event you would be praying to have the guys CBS puts on for EliteXC. Afflictions announcing and production quality was HORRIBLE, borderline amateur.
“Dude In the pink tie” used to announce for PrideFC and the black guy IS AWESOME. Its Gus Johnson, awesome College Basketball announcer.
Crazy Night! By the way, I hate Jake Shields. He stinks. Daley should have had a more killer instinct standing and ripped his head off. I could beat Shields standing. Yes, I am dead serious. He looks at the ceiling when he punches and has ZERO balance or proper leg movement. Just garbage. Has to be the worst champion in any weight class for any promotion. DID HE REALLY CALL OUT GSP A WHILE BACK!? Come on Jake, really, dont embarass yourself.
I don’t know how anyone can defend Slice in this one.
When all the hype started for the guy, I did my homework on him, didn’t you?
I watched a bucket load of his youtube street fights and I wasn’t impressed. Sure the guy looked to have technique when it came to punching, but I also noticed a big problem with him, his chin. One guy even rocked Kimbo in one of his back ally bouts and it wasn’t from a punch. The other guy simply panicked and stuck his hands out to stop Slice coming anymore forward and Kimbo managed to get his bell rang with this!
It is an insult to the fans to have the cr@p of the “MIGHTY KIMBO” stuffed down our throats time and time again. Any knowledgeable fight fan saw this coming at some stage. I’M just glad it was now before it got too big.
What is left for Kimbo now? I expect to see him fight Ken Shamrock at a later more convenient date and then we will see where to go from there.
As stated before, Knockouts do happen, people come back from them and some even better and more dominant than before, but I’m not sure Kimbo even had the makings of a true MMA fighter to start with.
actually Justin Kimbo was choked out in his bum fight loss. Yes the greats get Ko’d Dave, but you cant name me the last time a fighter at a lower weight class to a fight that day and Ko’d the guy in 16 sec’s. Seth is a c level fighter who lost on TUF season 2 to Rashad. as for why everyone (especially fighters) hates Kimbo is cause everyone hyped him up cause he beat a bunch of random guys off the street. He isnt a real MMA fighter, his power is way overrated, he has zero ground game, and evidently he has a glass chin. thats why people hate him and liked seeing him Ko’d tonight.
Whether you like him or not he was the fast track to helping MMA get mainstream. Some of you dont want that. But it is the truth. I for one dont particularly care for the EliteXC and watch all UFC and WEC because thats where the best guys are but I mean he brought the mainstream media to MMA.
Henry thats where your wrong. MMA needs to be brought to the mainstream but brought to it by the best. when mainstream people see that Thompson fight or this fight it makes this sport look like a freak show. 98% of these MMA fighters are real athletes that have spent years trainning and arent just bum fighters or random guys off the street. Thats why the UFC has tried so hard to make sure that the mainstream doesnt think this is still human cockfighting anymore. Elite XC and all their BS from the Diaz Noons thing, Thompsons exploding ear, women fighting, it makes people think is this a WWE type of thing or a real sport, and makes MMA look like its a bushe league sport.
Sure dude, I agree. I am not saying its the way I WANT MMA being brought mainstream, it just is. It wasn’t my idea and I wish the general public knew the ins and outs of jiu-jitsua and proper technical striking. I wish guys like Anderson Silva and Urijah Faber were the poster boys but thats not what sells something that isn’t mainstream. Kimbo is a normal guy and normal ppl wanted to see this normal guy that take sport by storm(sure we as MMA fans know this wont happen) but it makes people watch. Then people either decide whether they like the sport or not and find out that UFC and WEC is where you need to go to find the true pros.
I am telling you this Kimbo crazy EliteXC thing is a blessing in disguise for MMA as a whole. Kimbo getting knocked out made Sportscenter’s top ten plays tonight. I mean its catching on. There are uneducated fans in all sports and yea there are going to be people who think its “human cockfighting” but they are just closed minded folks that we as real fans shouldn’t care about anyway.
Do I want Kimbo to be the truck MMA rides to the mainstream, NO. But is he? Sure, he helps a ton because he connects the average person to the sport. All it takes is a hook, and the people will watch.
What a stupid mistake by EliteXC putting him in their with Seth he is not the best in the world but with a record of 10-4 and nine via TKO or KO (9-4 before the Kimbo “fight”) how can Elite be so stupid.
What now for their Golden Boy wheel out Fat Cop Sean Gannon wheel out Tank again wheel out Bo Cantrell…again.
Oh Elite how foolish have you been i imagine young Jared was crying his eyes out listening to home boy Vanilla Ice or something
Time to stick a fork in EliteXc it is done !
“Time to stick a fork in EliteXc it is done !”
Agreed
Haha i just watched the fight, Kimbo has finally been exposed. Went falling to the ground like a sack of potatoes from a jab about 4 inchs out. Brawler or not, you cant take that you aint no fighter. Undercard fighters could withstand a hit like that.
EliteXCs poster boy is over. This whole event was a farce since day one. The fighters better go get their paychecks payed in fast before they bounce. This company is going under.
this is more like it..i love the new site….im still pumped from petrizellis win what a night last night was…all good fights…best elite xc show yet…i wish someone would make a gif or jerrad shaws face when kimbo dropped to the ground..priceless
Someone said this is good for kimbo cause now he knows hes not invincible. I guess he should know, hes been beaten by gannon, thompson and petruzelli. 3 nobodys . and this is elite xc’s poster boy pretty sad
“the most incredible fight ever in MMA”. That was a quote from one of the announcers after Slice got beat. Wow, they might be Dumb.
Whats next for Kimbo?
American Gladiators
or
Hulk Hogans Celeb Wrestling!
Isn’t he gonna do a voice over for a Disney movie? Maybe he can present on the Disney Channel.
I bet TNA Wrestling put in an offer. lol
@ Kris,
Can you confirm the rumor that Frank Shamrock agreed to take the Kimbo fight after Ken withdrew?
Also, what is the potential to see a Ken vs. Frank fight?
It seemed that Frank took great pride putting Ken down before the fight with his “disgrace of the Shamrock name” line. I knew there has always been bad blood between these two.
I bet they move Slice to Cage Rage in Britain.
In regards to the Kimbo KO making Sportcenter’s top 10. Forrest beating rampage made the top 10 as well. So this is not the first time MMA has been on the top 10. In regards to Kimbo helping the sport, I think he did more for the sport by losing to a real MMA fighter last night than he has done in all of his previous wins combined. Thanks for the correction about Kimbo’s bum fight loss, aznstar. I knew he had lost, but wasn’t sure how.
In regards to the announcing, I don’t care who he used to announce for, he’s still annoying. That being said, I’m not exactly the biggest fan of Joe Rogan as an announcer either.
now we know why kimbos got a beard,to hide his glass jaw!had to watch it a few times there to see the ‘punch’ that put him down, didnt seem anything in it.kimbo stick to street fighting
What a joke i knew kimbo wasn’t a real mma fighter but i thought he could at least take a jab.Well it wasn’t really even a jab, more like a defensive push punch thing. If i was a conspiracy therorist i would say he was paid off.But i’m not,he just sucks.
Kimbo=LOSER Go home and beat on crack heads!
I loved what Frank said about Ken,he was right. Come on how many years has Ken been in this business. Do you really need to work on your ground game 12 hrs before fight time? I would rather see Frank vs. Ken than Frank vs. Tito. It would be a more entertaining fight.
Kimbo is hated because he is not the “Face of MMA” , the way Elite XC and CBS leads people to believe. When are they gonna make a decision on their Heavyweight Championship, the fighter that won it is suspended for steroids.Do they have a LHW champion? If they do I’ve never seen him fight. We know about Shields and Lawler but just who in the hell are their other champions? Until they market their CHAMPIONS, they wont measure up the UFC in anyway whatsoever.
The EliteXC broadcast team was hilarious. Frank Shamrock was as arrogant as ever, but he can do any EliteXC as many times as he wants. The other two were a bit over-the-top.
That was a great fight card, by EliteXC standards. They really needed this type of excitement on this card. Otherwise, I think CBS would’ve dumped the show if it was a dud. They’re still on a short leash but with a longer rope.
Carano vs Kobold was fight of the night. I would watch a replay of the just to see that fight. Radach and The Pit Bull had great matches too, especially Radach.
I don’t think there is a comparison between Houston Alexander and Kimbo Slice, except for the fact that they prefer the stand up because they lack a ground game.
Ok sooo I’m in Chicago, simply didn’t see EliteXC last night (did DVR it at my house in Cali, I will watch it when I return).. I’m rather happy that Kevin was delivered his first loss and showed that he can’t beat a “average” MMA fighter just like Chuck Liddell, Frank Mir and many other fighters have said…. Perhaps he may have been humbled a little and will get to training instead of believing the Shaw “hype machine” that he is a top 10 HW….
E-ROC,
I agree, Carano vs Kobold was fight of the night. All the fights were damn good but that fight changed my opinion of women’s mma.
I would love to see how Radach would do in the UFC. If he is that good then he should step up.
I think that any of the top 5 MWs in the UFC could have their way with Radach, as long as they didn’t get caught in his initial barrage of craziness. His stand up was a little better than Rua’s, but Franklin and Silva could pick him apart. He swung wildly and for the bleachers on every shot. He would still be able to go through several of the guys in the UFC though because they wouldn’t be able to survive that initial barrage. cough*Kendal Grove*cough
For those unfamiliar with Petruzelli, he is hardly a UFC veteran. Petruzelli lost both times he fought in the UFC. One loss came from Wilson Gouveia and I forget who delivered the other loss. I love how other promotions use the UFC name and former fighters as a promo tool. Petruzelli has also been submitted by Gan McGee in the past. Just to give us all and idea of his track record. I also did not see any “notable” wins despite his winning record when I looked him up. In the first seven seconds of the match I felt Petruzelli looked scared. He backed up to the cage, put one leg up defensively, had one hand on the cage and threw a snapping kick. Kimbo put his head foward and got caught. Perhaps Petruzelli put his leg out as bait for Kimbo to attack leaving his head open and exposed for a counter. I don’t know what was really going on with that game plan but Petruzelli won. Not that he had much time to come up with a gam plan. I did feel it was a slightly early stoppage. Petruzelli caught Kimbo with one punch to put him down, went for the kill, landed an illegal punch to the back of Kimbo’s head, missed his next two punches and then finally connected one or two more punches. However, Kimbo was still actively moving around and by the way Kimbo grabbed the referee’s leg while still down leads me to believe he had plenty of energy to continue. On the other hand, Kimbo holding the referee’s leg because he confused him for Petruzelli who was celebrating a win screams the match was over. At the end of the night it was proven….there is truly an MMA God. Kimbo lost.
KOuch,
His other loss was to Hamill.
On a side note:
I thought Rua looked like SHAT!
I thought this was an okay night of fights, like E-ROC said “by EliteXC standards”. I mean sure the announcers made me want to hang myself, but at least a lot of the crap from the last show was gone. Last time it looked like a circus, something outta cirque-de-solei (or however you spell it). This was a little more respectable, and I enjoyed the evening, and I must say I did like seeing Kimbo getting ko-ed. I am not a kimbo fan, I like real mma fighters, but I think people need to realize that he is still pretty new to this sport, and guys new to mma should be fighting lower level guys to get comfortable out there. Maybe I’m way off base here, but maybe Kimbo will be a good fighter (I say good cause I don’t think he’ll ever be a great fighter) as his career progresses, even GSP said sometimes a loss is more important than a win because you can learn a lot from a loss.
Justin, as for Joe Rogan, I agree he can be annoying, but I like his passion for mma, that guy absolutely loves this sport, and Joe really knows his stuff. He even trains with some of these guys. I heard Rogan say during a broadcast one time that he thinks it is great that there are all these other mma organizations out there. He said the more mma orgs than the more exposure the sport gets and the bigger the sport will be, and this is a guy who works for UFC, who are notorious for trying to stop people from watching other shows. And Joe is right, the more there are these smaller shows, promoting mma to more and more people, the more this sport is going to grow. I LOVE this sport, and the more people see the more people are going to watch, UFC needs to realize these other promotions may not promote the same, but at least they might be reaching a new demographic of fans. Baseball is boring as hell compared to mma, boxing? I used to watch boxing but now I find it boring, I keep waiting for the takedown or leg kick or something.
Let me re-iterate, I am not a kimbo fan, but I think his attention and media hype actually help this sport as a whole. Some people who tuned in to last nights fights for the first time might decide, hey maybe I’ll watch the next ufc pay-per-view, and see if it really is the best mma, and at least a few of them will turn in to main stream fans like most of us who visit this site. More free mma on more network television = growth. Cheers.
Thank you…. I knew I should have rememered…that was an easy one.
Kimbo had enough energy left because he got rocked only 14 seconds into the fight. Mistaking the ref for your opponent is a sure way to let anyone know that you’re done. Thank the MMA gods Kimbo got beat. And he got beat by an average fighter. With something like 3 hours notice.
Justin,
Shield’s stand up did look bad last night. Then again he did not get aggressive on the feet because the repercussions would have been him getting KO. Shield’s did not engage on the feet because that was Daley’s strength. The only striking Shield’s used was to set up the clinch and takedowns. On the ground Shield’s destroyed Daley. Shield’s mounted any position at will and toyed with Daley. With wins over Condit, Fitch, Sanchez and Okami I knew Shields had the upperhand in this match. He won because he fought his fight. Striker vs Grappler……classsic match up. Shields did not have his best performance last night but I still feel he is far underrated by the masses. Being on CBS would have been a great place to show the world what I preach on his behalf to you guys.
Planck16 — Frank Shamrock did offer to fight Kimbo but it never could have happened due to all the pre-screening the fighters go through. The only replacement they could have found on a few hours notice would have had to have been scheduled to fight already which is why Petruzelli got the nod.
I think the potential of a Ken vs. Frank fight is probably less now than it was before the event because Ken’s reputation was damaged by having to withdraw. Ken never should have put himself in a situation where he could get cut from a headbutt, if in fact that’s how it happened, but on the flip side there’s a bit more heat between Ken and Frank that could make the fight more marketable.
I’ve read that there were plans to have an on-air confrontation between Ken and Frank but that it got nixed at the last minute.
Dude, the old saying holds true I dont care if its a Bar Fight, a Street fight, or a cage fight.
“A scared man is a dangerous one.”
Petruzelli was scared and when he got back into a corner, he made Kimbo pay for rushing him and making him dirty his underwear.
ok I’ve been reading the conversations and I have to say a few things. First off love the new site Kris. Ok anyways back to business. Yes Chuck, Anderson, Couture all lost early in their careers but here is the kicker…they were not the main event on a nationally televised FREE card. Kimbo is by no means done as far as an MMA fighter but his hype and “credibility” were just trashed. The only problem I have with Kimbo is he was made into a main event fighter when guys like Sheilds and Lawler, who are the champions, have been on the undercard.
Petruzelli was not a bad fighter on TUF with a win over Dan (sandman) Christison and loss to a much larger Brad Imes by split decision. Petruzelli’s issue has always been injuries. His only UFC main fights he lost to Matt Hamil(dec) and Wilson Gouveia(sub) so it’s not like the guy was terrible. The truth is he got an opportunity and was able to to take advantage of it. Do not let me hear the whole game planning being an issue because no plan survives contact with then enemy(paraphrasing Gen. Powell). So while Kimbo will recover and/or find out whether or not he has the mettle for this sport, it’s eliteXC who loses because their “star” lost his edge of invincibility. The only solace that eliteXC has is that their other stars were challenged and answered their challenges. Lets see if eliteXC can survive the nuclear winter that is Kimbo losing to “nobody”(even though he’s a nasty fighter known to the hardcore group…)
Petruzelli is average. Didn’t anyone else notice Kimbo’s face before the fight? If anything he was the one who looked scared/nervous or whatever. The look on his face before the fight had me thinking he was going to lose. Maybe he always looks like that before he fights but I doubt it.
yeah Tmoney he always looks like that before a fight
@ Kris,
Thanks for getting back to me, this is why MMAFRENZY is my go to source for MMA! Where can we find bios on you and Eric?
I’d rather see Frank Shamrock vs. Tito Ortiz 2, before Shamrock vs. Shamrock. If Elite XC wants to sell a PPV, that’s the main event to have. Too bad they won’t be able to show their original fight footage in the build up to the event.
Did Petruzelli and the ref not get the “who’s suppose to win memo?” Hello, if Kimbo doesn’t win, Elite XC may go out of business, and both of them may be out of a job.
Kimbo needs to fight Bert Rogers next. They need to build that up with a lot of hoopla. Kimbo needs to be victorious and he’ll be back on track. He’ll sell tickets and commercial time. Realistically, he’ll never be more than a circus act. Hopefully, his main event fights will showcase the undercards, and create new stars (ie. Benji Radach).
Because of the site changes our bios are down temporarily but I’ll be sure to get them back up sometime this week. Thanks for reading!
KOuch,
I didn’t say anything about Shields, I was talking about Radach. Although Shields did not look great in this fight.
Newfie,
I do appreciate Rogan’s knowledge and passion. And I as the color guy during fights he is fine. Honestly I just get tired of all the blabber between fights on a UFC event, most of which is Rogan yelling into the microphone because its so loud.
Justin,
Chill… I wasn’t directing it at you….I was just saying…typing…You’re good.
@Alfred C and DBIZ,
I am sorry I didn’t respond sooner(I thought I posted something this afternoon but I can’t seem to locate it). Anyway I agree props go to Seth as well and I am by no means a KIMBO fan I was just trying to recognize him trying to be a fighter instead of a Popculture star.

KOuch,
I wasn’t upset or anything…but yeah…
“KOuch said:
Justin,
Shield’s stand up…”
Either way I think everyone can agree that EliteXC’s production value is now on par with the UFC. The fights went smooth, no side shows, announcers were, for the most part, decent. All in all a great show.
Unfortunately, their main draw lost. I just hope Shields (who I think looked great against a faster, stronger fighter) can now become a better face of the EliteXC. He’s a bad@$$ that deserves a main event just like Lawler.
Shields ‘08!
