Nick Diaz and Karo should be on there. Forrest vs. Tito? Uhhh… no. I think they should have gone a bit farther back when making this list.

  • lem - GL says:

The SI article is a typical example of mainstream America’s clueless fascination with the UFC. They make it seem the UFC did not exist before 2003.

Other notable matches they missed up upon:

Tito Ortiz vs Frank Shamrock (1999)
Royce Gracie vs Dan Severn (1994)
Royce Gracie vs Kimo Leopoldo (1994)
    and many more!

  • Kris says:

I agree with both of you. The list does not go back far enough when looking at the best fights. I think Forrest-Tito and Grove-Herman both shouldn’t be on the list. I think Tito-Frank 1 definitely should be as well.

  • scotchydow says:

Diego Sanchez and Karo Perisian; Mark Colman v. Pete Williams(What a knock out) Randy Coutour v. Tito Ortiz; Coutour v. Vitor Belfort 1; a newer fight that I love is Pete Sell v. Scott Smith; or go old school with Oleg Taktarov v. David “TANK” Abbot. I think SI needs to get some true old-school fans to write their articles about the sport or if they truley want to stay on top of it.

  • Albert Nistico says:

Sam Stout v. Spencer Fisher II

  • mammothcock says:

    Mark Coleman vs Maurice Smith
    royce vs ken

  • Doug says:

    What about Coutour Vs. Silvia?

    That fight was unbelievable…

  • Lou Miramontes says:

Randy Vs. Big Tim… Why is this not top 5? Top 2? 43 year old Randy? MMA Hero.

  • Kris says:

Even though I loved the domination by Couture I think that will fail to make a list like this because it was so one sided and it went to a decision. The fights that make these are typically back and forth wars but I agree, Couture vs. Sylvia definitely could have made this list.

  • Steve says:

Those are the top 10 fights……give me a break! Ortiz vs Silva, Coleman vs Severn, Couture vs Maurice Smith. I could go further but those are just a couple of examples of “before the timeline” SI used. The had a couple good ones listed but they really have to do their research next time they decide to come out with a top 10 list.
