Kevin Burns and Anthony Johnson will square off at The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale on December 13th in a rematch of their July 19th bout which ended in controversy when Burns “knocked out” Johnson with an accidental-but-illegal eye poke.
MMAJunkie.com confirmed on Thursday that both fighters have agreed to the matchup.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission rejected Johnson’s appeal of the TKO loss earlier this month.

i think u mean anthony johnson
Here is AJ’s oppritunity for redemption…. I just hope he goes into this fight with a good game plan and not filled with absolute anger, I hope he destroys Burns as well
YES. Maybe Burns can keep his fingers to himself this time.
Yeah there’s a typo in the first line. This is great for AJ. Not as good as winning the appeal but it’s the next best thing.
i dunno why he’d be angry goin into this fight. it wasn’t intentional and burns obviously felt bad about how it ended up last time. you can’t really expect to be a professional cage fighter without knowing that this type of thing will happen from time to time.
@2girls2cups (?), i understand that forsure, im just saying if someone put their finger threw my eye and i needed surgery after, then i got a rematch to avenge a loss when it should have been (imo) a NC….. i might be a little angry with that situation and try to take it out on the guy….. that was kinda my point, forsure these two are professional fighters and shhhiiittt happens, o and AJ seems to be class through out this entine situation
I agree with Tmoney. I also don’t really see why he would come in filled with absolute anger, but I do hope he comes in with a good game plan and makes a statement. Mostly I don’t want him to come in looking to make a statement with and early KO, that causes him to get sloppy.
i should think he’d be a bit pissed as it effected his pro record and his pay packet
@Justin, kinda what i was saying
fr702, agreed, i’d be a little pissed at the overall situation but i think enough time has passed to where he’ll come in with a clear state of mind.and to add, it’s not like he’s getting to fight the guys that really screwed him over (the athletic commission) so i can’t imagine him bein mad at burns. and regarding his record/ future pay, i would agree that he should be pissed about it except that i think the ufc is good about recognizing when a guy got a bad call against him. in fact i’m pretty sure that’s why they put this fight together so i dunno how much that last one will come into play after this rematch.
plus this fight can “hype” itself, pretty simple storyline ya now
Thanks for the heads up, it’s fixed now.
ya, if you think about it the finger in the eye might’ve been a blessing in disguise cuz now there’s a good reason to want to see this fight. had that fight ended like every other, the winner might’ve still just been a pre-lim fighter or possibly one of the first fights on the main card.
I would never take a fight with him he is just going to poke more eyeballs he has admitted that he cant close his fist he is throwing an open palm with all his might he going to continue to seriously injure people if I were Dana I would throw him out of the ufc
Good point 2girls, I agree, and I’m the oddball, but I would like to see Burns win. He seems like a pretty level headed dude, and he admitted the mistake. Now, he’s willing to fight AJ again, unlike some UFC “stars” who only pick names that they can beat. I think both of these guys deserve respect for the way this entire situation has been handled.
Exactly rutdog. Both Burns and AJ deserve respect for the way they handled this. Both of them seem like good people. The UFC did right by them (especially AJ) with the rematch.
I hope aj works on his conditioning a little…he poops out after the first round…probably all the weight he has to cut…this will be a good fight tho…both have knock out power so it could go either way…I was pretty impressed with burns when I saw him…I figured Johnson was just goin to run right thru him…
I hope they let him wear goggles for this fight. He’s gonna need them against Slappy.
I’m betting his hand isn’t back to normal & he gets D/Q’d for eye pokes
Maybe he can bend the last two joints of his fingers at least.
Johnson should get $100k extra for even giving him a match….
Jason Chambers just joined ATT for training for MMA fights…
Did anyone else have trouble accessing the site within the last hour or so?
Kris, I see that MMAFrenzy is going to have live coverage of the Carolina Crown, are you going to be in town for that?
Justin,
I am the cub reporter …
Dietrich,
Gotcha, I had a high suspicion that was the case.
I hope Johnson hurts the eye gouger bad. Perhaps a knee to the eye sending it to the back of his skull would do…..wishful thinking.
Justin,
I know we have posted about it before so this is not much for you as it is everyone else…Wake the kids phone the neighbors…Get everyone down here that you can for this card. Doug Muhle is changing the game for the better and if all 19,500 seats at the RBC center have butts in them on 10/11, Raleigh will be forever changed with respect to MMA.
Justin – I was messing around with some stuff on the site and accidentally took it down but it should be all good now. Unfortunately I won’t be down for it but Dietrich is gonna have us covered and we’ll have quite a bit of Carolina Crown coverage on MMAFrenzy.com in the coming weeks.
Kris,
I’m glad the site is back up. I look forward to the coverage for the upcoming event. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, I’ve got some big things brewing for the site so stay tuned.
hopefully AJ can come out and what he did to tommy speer and just leave burns kneeling at the side of the cage wondering where the hell he is haha
Burns needs to move to womens oil wrestling where he can use oil, finger jabs and hair pulling. Still blows me away he is a fighter that can’t throw a proper jab. I hope Johnson takes him. I don’t think he should have to fight Burns again.
yeah its pritty dumb its like a football player not being able to kick a ball ha
Yeah, or a ping pong player not being able to ping
What?
