Frank Edgar vs. Matt Wiman Booked For December 10th
Lightweights Frank Edgar and Matt Wiman have agreed to clash at UFC Fight Night 16 “UFC Fights for the Troops” on December 10th in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The event will air live on Spike TV.
MMAFrenzy.com recently confirmed the 155-pound matchup.
After winning eight-straight fights to begin his career, including his first three bouts in the UFC over Tyson Griffin, Mark Bocek, and Spencer Fisher, Edgar was defeated by Gray Maynard via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 13. Edgar bounced back to beat Hermes Franca via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 14 in July.
Despite losing to Spencer Fisher in his UFC debut Matt Wiman appeared on The Ultimate Fighter 5 but was defeated by eventual-finalist Manny Gamburyan via decision in the quarterfinals. He has since won four-straight fights in the UFC over Brian Geraghty, Michihiro Omigawa, Justin Buchholz, and Thiago Tavares.

From Franca to Wiman? Sounds like a bit of a demotion.

Maybe its not so much of a demotion with Franca off the ‘roids. And I agree that Edgar should win.
not really an demotion when wiman is on a 4 fight win streak, i think this is guna be a good fight im pritty pumped i like to see tuf cast get big fights, anyone no when rob the saint is fighting again? i like that guy he was my pick to win the show which was a bad call lol but he then went on to knock manny out in 9 seconds which was sweet!!
pretty good fight, i call wiman upseting edgar in this.
The comparison I’ll make is how each fought Spencer Fisher; they were completely polar outcomes. Fisher dominated Wiman, Edgar dominated Fisher.
fischer didn’t dominate wiman. he ended up with a highlight knockout, however it could be argued that wiman was winning the fight to that point.
wiman is a way different fighter…we are talking about a guy who ko’d thiago tavares…i guarentee a wiman win…………..wiman by ko or decsion
Wiman has potential and is coming off a sick ko win over tap out con artist(anyone see the tavares pelegrino match) thiago tavares, who isn’t a bad fighter when he’s on his grappling/jitz game. Edgar lost to maynard, so just because he beat a roided up franca, doesn’t mean he should be fighting someone different other than wiman. SHould be a gould test for wiman. Hope he pulls it off cuz i’m getting tired of wrestlers. They’re boring dude!
Wiman is a good fighter, but Edgar is an animal. I don’t see Wiman beating Edgar, but I believe it will be a MMA fight, so you never know what might happen. On paper, I’d say that Edgar would win in a walkover, but they have to actually fight it out to find out.
edgar’s overrated imo…when he first came into the ufc everyone was hyping him and had him in the top 10 lw in the world then maynard won and he fell off the ladder and then he beat franca(who was on a year layoff) and everyone says aww he is so great i dont really believe it….he’s good but not good enough where everyone should say he is not even in wiman’s level…thats what everyone said about emerson vs gamburyan and look what happened there manny wasnt even in the saint’s league

edgar beat tyson griffin who we all know is @ the top of the lw div. But, like you said he lost to maynard who has sick wrestling, but is still kind of green. So like i said, semi agreed. If wiman defends the take down, he’ll ko him out.
Gunslinger knows his stuff, but I think they’ll have to fight this one out to see who’s the better man.

Very good match up. I was excited as hell when I read the title. I need time to think before I pick but damn good match up. Wiman is without a doubt underrated…..almost unseen.
ya i this could be fight of the night..im already liking this fight night better than the last..i wasnt a big fan of the last one good fights but not that exciting

If Wiman doesn’t finish the fight then nobody will ’cause Edgar is like a little version of Tito just not as good, he has good wrestling, average GnP, his standup and submissions are pathetic he is a perfect example of Lay and Pray…if Wiman doesn’t drop Frankie like he did Tavares then I see Edgar getting his USUAL decision.

edgar is a grat fighter i think he would lose to griffin now i think tyson has gotten much better
