Andrei Arlovski vs. Roy Nelson Added To EliteXC: Heat
Heavyweights Andrei Arlovski and Roy Nelson will square off at EliteXC “Heat” on October 4th at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
CBS, EliteXC, and Affliction jointly announced the matchup earlier today.
Both Nelson and Arlovski are under contract with Affliction, indicating that the promotions are willing to work together to challenge the UFC’s position as the top mixed martial arts promotion in the world. Affliction also recently announced a partnership with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotion’s to promote events featuring both MMA and boxing.
Arlovski was to meet Josh Barnett in the main event of Affliction “Day of Reckoning” on October 11th while Nelson was to take on Paul Buentello on the event’s preliminary card. The event was recently resceheduled for early-2009 leaving Arlovski and Nelson open to clash on October 4th.
The main card for EliteXC “Heat”, which will be broadcast live on CBS, also features Kevin “Kimbo Slice†Ferguson vs. Ken Shamrock, 170-pound champion Jake Shields vs. Paul Daley for the EliteXC Welterweight Championship, Gina Carano vs. Kelly Kobold, and Benji Radach vs. Murilo “Ninja†Rua.

This show will be a co-promotion. Kimbo will probably be the main event because he’s the one all over TV Making appearances. The casual fan has heard of Kimbo Slice and the dedicated fan will probably get the PPV regardless of who the main event is.
A merger is possible, but I don’t see it happening here. This is a co-promoted fight.

I can’t see Roy Nelson and AA fighting. Nelson is good, but is he in the same league as AA? Could Nelson be matched against Fedor? This looks like a triple A fighter against a major league fighter. I think AA will make quick work of Nelson. It should be an interesting fight to watch… as long as it lasts.

Fedor announced on Dream 6 that he would be fighting in Japan on New Year’s Eve, didn’t he? I don’t think he’ll schedule another fight in January, but who knows?
There wont be any merger . if anythingg Elite XC will probably take the cream of Affliction and put them under contract . They are gonna have the money through the showtime people to do alot of signing and deals with DREAM/STRIKEFORCE . Affliction wont be around after their next card (if they actually do it ) ……
My guess…They are already running 2 old ppv’s and it seems alittle late for a live card…The easiest thing to do would be run the Atlanta show. The next best thing would be a marathon of unaired prelims…

I gotta say this is kinda funny. Great match-up but it does not bode well for EliteXC. Even if it is just a co-promotion for one fight it does signal some interesting things. Including a possible merger. To be honest though while roster wise it’d be genius business wise it would be an absolute disaster. Merger’s are never 50/50 no matter how it appears so that means one side takes over the other. Obviously, it would have to be Affliction taking over EliteXC after the massive losses posted by EliteXC. With Affliction trying to diversify(with the deal with Golden Boy) it would make sense since they need to add more fighters in different weight classes. I still think that Affliction could over extend itself and implode though if they are unable to strike a major network deal or gain more top fighters in weight classes other than Heavy. Should be interesting.
EliteXC is so in the red that CBS corporation(parent of showtime formerly part of Viacom) would only be able to do so much. If the UFC were to ever be able to iron out it’s deal with CBS corporation(which ironically spike used to be part of) then you could pretty much kiss EliteXC good bye.

This card still sucks. Arlovski is the only guy that could even challenge for a belt in UFC, and he’d still have a great shot at losing. The only womens matchup that i’d give 2 shts about is Carano vs Cyborg.

hey guys this is completely hypothetical and will probably never happen but with elitexc using fighters from affliction this question has to come up…… what if fedor fought in elitexc? would they pour in higher ratings then the UFC? what do you guys think?
Personally I’d rather see the Pitbull fight Kimbo and finally get knock him down a notch rather than Shammy go out there and embarrass all the other old school fighters by laying an egg like he did twice against Tito. I highly doubt Dana will resign Tito, he said he’s no longer in the Tito business, and Tito hasn’t done much lately to show he’s an A class fighter.
If only Elite makes a billion dollars this next show will fedor come to elite. i’m sure elite tried to “borrow” Fedor for this fight but with no success. I’m sure this is just a ploy to get people talking if Kimbo is ready to fight a guy AA. Elite’s had some exciting, not between highly talented fighters, but exciting none the less. I’m glad to see better meat for the MMA zombies around the world though

Kyle you raise a good point…however…Fedor is still technically a free agent since his Affliction contract is actually through the old M-1 group. So in other words don’t count on Fedor fighting in EliteXC…ever. I doubt the Barnett-Fedor fight will happen in Jan since Fedor is supposed to fight in Japan on NYE. Matter of fact there is more chance of UFC vs. Couture than there is him fighting eliteXC.
IMO AA would destroy kimbo due to nasty technical skill he has in all phases of the game. I really think Nelson would give AA more trouble just because of his weight.

Under 3 minutes is a stretch, I haven’t watched AA’s fights since he left the UFC, but his last couple he didn’t really show that he was a finisher.

I was elsewhere watching Silva destroy Irvin during the last Affliction event. Also, didn’t want to pay for it, I did see the Maineiac go to sleep, online after the fact…just watched AA Ko Rothwell. He looked as good as I’ve seen him in that fight, but he still seemed tentative at points.

To be honest I think this fight may go the distance, not because AA can’t finish Nelson but if he closes the distance too much he will be risking being taken down and while AA is still good on the ground, Nelson’s considerable weight and girth can smother AA if he get’s on top of him. I see AA picking him apart with sharp boxing and a good diet of low thai kicks before trying to take him out late.

Two garbage ass promotions currently struggling are only co promoting because they’re hoping to help THEMSELVES while pretending to work “together.” Or Affliction/Golden Boy Crooked C0ckmongers Promotions are up to dumb, idiotic, stupid, moronic, no clue, totally brainless business dealings in the wonderful world of MMA. Kimbo ain’t no MMA fighter by any stretch of the imagination… I’m guessing that he’s studying BJJ really hard for his next fight with Shamrock but, I’ll bet when he’s in the ring and the bell sounds, he’ll start swinging and he’ll win or lose swinging. All his hard work on BJJ will go right out the window. Having said that, Kimbo does have a chance against anybody because he does have a hard punch… he just has to be able to land a few of them. I learned something from Buster Douglas… never say never… almost…

I hope these 2 promotions coming together works out, in one way or another. I watch MMA for the fights, not the financial stuff, not who the president of the company is and what he’s saying, or all the financial stuff. I just want to be able to see good fighters fight, I don’t care in what company or promotion. I hope with AA fighting, it helps bring alot of money to help Elite and Affliction put on more shows. Go AA, Shields, and GINA!!!

Like I said, both these promotions are jokes.The UFC is THE PROMOTION in MMA. Yes I am a true MMA fan and I watch them all but pumping Kimbo up and protecting him does him no favors in the fans eyes. Everyone knows that if the Thompson fight went to the judges Kimbo looses, thats why the fight was stopped when he finally hit him with shots. As for Affliction well they overpaid for the talent they have and now it seems like they are trying anything just to drum up interest in their product.

Indeed it is an absolute sh1tter we dont get CBS in UK. I was at Daley’s last fight (Cage Warriors in Nottingham, where im from
) and he looked absolutly awesome.
(On a side note, Nottingham has some great fighters…we have Daley and Dan Hardy both Nottingham lads, and Bisping trained in Nottingham for the first few years of his career which is testament to our gyms!)
I really want to see the Daley/Shields fight. But will have to be a Google searched show on a youtube size vid on the 5th instead. Boohoo.

Roy Nelson is a good fighter considering the fact that he’s belly is as big as mine. He’s almost to the point that he needs suspenders. He’s never fought anybody with the ability of Arlovski. AA has skills and ability to utilize those skills better than anybody that Nelson has ever faced. I can’t foresee Nelson winning this fight at all… then again, I didn’t foresee Evans knocking The Iceman’s head completely off his shoulders either. So what the heck do I know?

Allen at safety or cornerback, he wasn’t sure, he just drafted the guy. Anway, that bum is gone and Coach Sparano is there and I like the way they’re trying to build the team back up… starting with the lines.

I will say this about Roy Nelson, he looked real good against Brad Imes… but Brad has a way of making his opponents look good. Roy threw some nice shots and knocked him down. Then he ended the “fight”… I realize that I’m using the word “fight” loosely in describing this spectacle, but I won’t take anything away from Roy Nelson… I might take Brad Imes lunch money away from him, however.
Who’s the Bears QB now? I know a few that I can recommend if you need one… Let’s see… Jay Fiedler. He could really help your team with his experience and guile. AJ Feeley would be a nice addition, if he’s still dating Heather Mitts because she’s hot. This is a wicked card , its starting to rival the stuff the UFC has been putting on . Better then the last fight night card for sure , although they had some good ones there too .If they can finally get a few more cards like this on TV it may turn the tide for elite xc . 55 Million seems like alot , but showtime is worth BILLIONS .. and billions make millions seem like a few thousand .So if they do buy it out they mighthave a gem in the rough .I still say they should have Bas become the match maker .

What a waste of time/money that would be. One sorry boxing match that takes nearly an hour with nothing but guys throwing three punches then leaning on each other, and then only 4 MMA fights.
Right unless its a like a 9rd or 5rd boxing match which some small shows will throw a pure boxing match in or a Thai match in and then go to MMA and the times I’ve seen this done it has seriously annoyed the hell out of me… It still isn’t a decision I would have personally made and only 4 MMA fights??? Talk about trying to piss KOuch OFF! I am with Justin….just like I said originally…. Why would I(MMA FAN) want to watch Fedor man handle his opponent in under a minute and then watch two guys dance around one another while throwing punches that cause little damage for 12 f-n rds? Even if the boxing matches are four rds…..STUPID idea. MMA and boxing are two different sports and one of the biggest differences is the high paced excitement MMA offers the fans. MMA fans in general are going to get bored and likely boo the boxers….I fear this may make MMA fans look disrespectful and rowdy when all they really want is an exciting fight.
