Cage Rage Champ Mustafa Al-Turk Signs With UFC, To Fight Cain Velasquez in December
Mustafa Al-Turk (6-3) has vacated the Cage Rage British heavyweight title and has signed a four-fight deal with the UFC according to MMA Weekly.
Al-Turk is expected to make his UFC debut in December at UFC Fight Night 16: UFC Fights for the Troops against undefeated heavyweight up-and-comer Cain Velasquez (4-0).
Following back-to-back losses to begin his career Al-Turk scored four-straight victories before suffering his third professional loss in late-2007. He’s since rebounded with back-to-back stoppage wins over Gary Turner and James McSweeney.
Velasquez is 2-0 inside the octagon with first-round TKO victories over Brad Morris and Jake O’Brien.

Looks like the UFC is trying to strengthen that weak HW division.

He’s solid enough for a PPV debut.
Im surprised UFC have signed Al-Turk. Hes been pretty successful in Cage Rage but its a looooonng way from UFC standard. And I really cant see him beating Velasquez. Hes pretty well rounded but not particularly good at anything.
That being said, im glad he has signed with UFC, if only as undercard fodder. Will give some of the up and comer HW’s a good brawl.
On the downside, it means after his initial debut, being London based means he’ll be on EVERY future UK show FOREVER MORE like Kelly and Etim and Taylor and Vera and Bisping and Liaudin and Marcus Davis etc etc etc etc. Come on UFC, get your sh1t together on the UK front.
On a side note, Im actually betting on Velasquez being the next big thing at Heavyweight. Hes a bada$$ wrestler who hits hard as a bull. 2 or 3 more fights and I see him giving Lesnar a serious run for his money, seeing as he’s slightly nearer his size and strength and still young. Lesnar keep your eye on this guy in 2009!

couldnt agree more chris,when thay announce a UFC in the UK bisping kelly davis taylor are a cert. Al-Turk could join that list,once velasquez kicks his ass.would like to see w silva or bj again over here

I agree a couple more fights and i think big daddy cain might be somthing in the HW dision i no he asnt really fought anyone but the guy looks like a stud from his first to fights….
i agree leo he is indeed marketable. Hopefully the UFC will build him up cleverly
This might be a bit random but i hope that Gonzaga climbs his way to the top of the division, he killed Cro Cop, but wasnt ready for Randy. Arlovski lost 2 fights and became champ, i hope Gabriel can do the same cauze the guys both dominant and entertaining.
Velasquez is injured, and going to undergo knee surgery, so it’s Kongo that Al-turk is fighting in December. Still a tough debut fight.
