Alessio Sakara Knocks Out Joe VedepoJoe Vedepo, who suffered a knockout loss to Alessio Sakara on the UFC Fight Night 15 preliminary card in his UFC debut, has been issued the only medical suspension stemming from Saturday’s UFC event in Omaha, Nebraska.

According to MMAJunkie.com, who confirmed the lone suspension with the Nebraska Athletic Commission, Vedepo received a 45-day medical suspension due to “heavy head blows”.

The loss was just Vedepo’s second in nine professional bouts. He has never gone the distance, losing two fights via knockout while earning three knockout and three submission victories.

Sorry for Joe Vedepo but having some of these fighters available is really good news for the UFN in December and UFC 92 cards.

  • JOHNBOY says:

any1 else up for seein diaz vs clay i wana see that match b4 the end ov the year

  • KOuch says:

    Johnboy,

I’m up for that. Both of those guys can face almost anyone at this point and I’d be happy. I think Guida would get submitted becase he takes guys down and then slows his pace on the ground. Guida would have to keep it standing to avoid danger. Nothing against Diaz’s standup but Guida would handle him on the feet.

  • KOuch says:

I cannot believe Sakara KO someone. Up until now I thought Sakara was the UFCs punching bag. My memories of Sakara are this:

Someone kicked him in the testes so hard that the match was ended and he left on a stretcher.

Dean Lister submitted him fairly easy. (Think it was Dean)

Someone else beat the shat out of him and I began to wonder why he was in the UFC.

  • Champagne says:

it was houston that beat him, but he had houston in trouble early, then his last lhw match he beat the piss outta some guy…

  • timcat says:

I think it would be a good test for Diaz. Guida’s stand up is good enough to handle Nate. Is it me or does Diaz look like he is just slapping instead of punching?

  • Justin says:

Diaz stand up definitely has no power behind it. During the fight Rogan was talking about how Diaz threw punches but didn’t put a lot of energy into like it was a good thing. I think that makes his stand up nearly a non factor. Why would you worry about someone’s stand up if they’re not going to throw full force, its not like they’re going to knock you out that way. His punches look like he’s punching to just to score punches landed, and distract his opponent, they are otherwise useless.

  • KOuch says:

    Justin,

I agree. His brother is the same way. It seems like there flailing punches are being used to set up take downs. If Nate would work on his boxing he’d be an extremely dangerous fighter.

  • Justin says:

    KOuch,
One thing though, his brother does have a knockout win. Nick is also much bigger than Nate, I think Nate could likely drop to 145, if they had that weight class in the UFC.

  • KOuch says:

    Justin,

I know the WEC has very good 145/135 weight divisions and just disassembled there LHW and MW divisions but I wish the UFC had a 145lbs division too. So many of the LWs from UFC and WEC could make a very exciting division at 145lbs.

As far as Nick…..He does have a KO win but in his last fight he was landing “Diaz Haymakers” and though they drew blood….they never finished the job. I just feel working on their boxing would put them at another level than other fighters…specifically Nate.

  • trey_trey says:

nate has some looooong arms though, esp. when compared to guida’s. if he can keep clay back with his long arms he will be fine… if it goes to the mat clay would probably be in deep sh*t. btw… 10 of nicks 18 wins have been due to punches, so nick CAN throw hands, including the KO of robbie lawler… that was a classic!

  • YZFOXRACING says:

DAN HENDERSON/MICHAEL BISPING TO BE TUF COACHES….

  • al3ino says:

Guida would walk through Diazs slaps, dump him on his head but probably get submitted.
I really thought Neer would destroy Diaz via KO, hopefully someone else will soon.

  • timcat says:

Nick ko’ed Robbie Lawler with a jab. Not the best showing from Ruthless I must say.

  • B Free says:

Nick also has the trash talking technique that set up his knockout of Lawler. Nate needs to work on talking smack but it might back fire since he talks like Mike Tyson.

But anyway Guida is just as slippery as Nate on the ground and Nate hasn’t foughten anywon who comes close to the pace Guida has. Guida could just out work Nate to a desicion like he mostly does in his fights.

I know this is off topic but im curious if anyone else heard the reports today that Anderson Silva has stated he will retire next year, it was on “the score” in Toronto.

  • FR702 says:

Retire is a word and a action that is apparently used loosely in MMA

Seriously why in the world would he retire? Well I guess he could “retire” for 5 months fight Roy Jones Jr and then come back to the UFC right Randy?

  • mikew says:

I agree the word is thrown around loosely but it feels different coming from Silva who may want to try another discipline, maybe boxing for the big bucks or just training.

  • mikew says:

“I’ll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don’t need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I’ll put my gloves aside.”

Silvas quote from a show in Brazil that will air next weekend

  • FR702 says:

I believe he also said he wants to fight 6 times a year as well……
It may be an oppritunity to gain Dana and the Brothers Fertitta attention to make more $ per fight ie a early negotioation ploy imo

  • JOHNBOY says:

let him retire he thinks hes too good tu tu tu im guessing cote is guna knock him out after that comment, to me that shows hes to confident an thiks hes un touchable, if u think that silva ive got 2 words “chuck liddell”. All he needs is to get knocked down a peg then maybe he will want to fight for the next ten years an because greatest mma fighter of all time

  • ravine says:

Personally i would like to see Silva retire, and go box Roy Jones Jr, I like Silva’s stand-up but i jus dont think he can hang with Jones…..seeing how he was atop the p4p rankings for wat, 4 years or something like that…sure he fell off as of late but i still think he would own silva in a boxing match…i could be wrong, i have been wrong b4, but it would setup the greatest war between boxing and mma…if jones wins lots of boxers will say that there more skilled then mma fighters, but if an mma guy won it would be the other way around

On to diaz fighting guida…Guida all the way….nates got some nasty jits but i jus can see him hanging with the best in the division, like the florians and the guidas…hell i bet even sherk would make him look like hes got alot to learn…Diaz needs some good competition and if he gets it maybe i see him being a contender, late next year sometime…besides, i think bj is gonna be on top of that division for sometime to come still, even after GSP dominates his ass in january…i cant see a 155er owning bj at this point in his career…hes jus to strong for the division and way to skilled to be beat by these guys

  • mikew says:

It could be a negotiation ploy but consider he could make enough in one well promoted boxing match to almost equal his total MMA earnings.

  • DolfanG says:

I just saw GSP say that Fedor is, in his opinion, the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Interesting.

  • Leo says:

Diaz is not trying to ko the guys he’s fighting if you listen to rogan diaz is just trowing his punche’s getting his opponet to cover up and that is when he can tangle them up….then it usually goes to the ground and we all no what happens from there one of the sick’s ground games in mma…
