As most UFC fans know, Nate Diaz will be competing this weekend on The Ultimate Fighter 5 finale against Manny Gamburyan for a 6-figure UFC contract. One person who will not be at the finale, at least in an official role, is Nate’s brother Nick Diaz who was barred by the Nevada State Athletic Commission from cornering his brother. Here is what GracieFighter.com said about the situation:
Nick Diaz will not be cornering his younger brother, Nathan Diaz, in what will surely be the biggest fight of Nathan’s career. Nick, who is himself under a six month NSAC suspension, has been advised that due to his suspension he will not be able to secure a corner’s license in Nevada.
Diaz was suspended for six months in March by the NSAC for testing positive for Marijuana and his upset win over Takanori Gomi at Pride 33 was changed to a no contest as a results. According to the report the ban also applies to cornering fighters as well as actually competing in MMA fights in the state.
Filling in for Diaz will be Jake Shields who MMA fans will likely know for his fights in Rumble on the Rock, BodogFight, and most recently during K-1’s US debut several weeks ago. Also cornering the TUF-finalist will be Gilbert Melendez and Cesar Gracie.
