UFC 70: Spike TV, Not HBO, Most Likely To Broadcast Event

Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer is reporting in a recent article that UFC 70 will “most likely” air on Spike TV and not HBO as was initially rumored. Here’s what the article had to say:

“Dana White said that regarding the broadcast of UFC 70 on 4/21 from Manchester, England into the U.S., that nothing is finalized right now, but it will most likely be on Spike and not HBO.”

This is huge news. It will be the first “major” UFC event to be on cable TV and not pay-per-view. Many thought the UFC would reach a deal with HBO before the April 21st event so it could be shown on the premium channel but this seems to indicate talks have either broken down or are progressing too slowly to get a deal done in time.

Personally I am ecstatic as I am sure most fans are because I won’t have to shell $40 out to catch the packed card on PPV. Here is the nearly complete rumored card for UFC 70:

  • Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
  • Assuerio Silva vs. Cheick Congo
  • Andre Arlovski vs. Fabricio Werdum
  • Michael Bisping vs. Elvis Sinosic
  • Jess Liaudin vs. Dennis Siver
  • Alessio Sakara vs. Victor Valimaki
  • Terry Etim vs. Matt Grice
  • Ryoto Machida vs. Forrest Griffin
  • David Lee vs. TBD
