i like the preliminary fights more then the main card.
anyone watching cage rage? the fights that r posted on mma rumors are not on? kris u no why?
erizzle i call every fight the same
I pretty much think the same Erizzle apart from Reljic and Griffin ton win their respective fights.
I might be the only one but i keep having this ridiculously daft hunch that Cote might pull off shocking upset !!!
I had the same hunch with Serra vs GSP last year !!!
i think Goran Reljic will win
any1 still shakeing there head at the main event its guna be biggest miss match in history
Can’t believe I feel this way but I want Sanchez to win. I think Alves would pose a bigger threat as the number one contender but I want Diego to win. He is more disciplined….Alves needs to mature as a fighter. Alves is badass but he has a cockyness that rubs me funny….
i no what u mean KOuch but sanchez is a weird mo fo to, alves is a beast tho i think if he wins he gets a shot
BJ Penn gets the shot…
I would like for Diego to win, then it would be Diego v Kos for the “next” title shot and in all hopes that Diego destroys Kos (unlike their last fight) don’t get me wrong I’m not a fan of either of the two but I’m personally don’t enjoy Kos hell I don’t care who wins between Diego v Alves just as long as the winner destroys Kos somehow in the process of getting a title shot
LOL @ KOuch.
Man, the preliminary card is where all the action will be.
JohnBoy, I too like a lot of the prelimanry fights in compared to seeing Werdum fight I would like to see Alemida v Horwich moreover Clementi v Maynard but I have hopes that they show a few after Silva ends his fight in 32seconds
I still think Silva vs Cote is the stupidist idea ever.
Just how many top contenders has Cote really beat? Cote is going to get a whooping by Silva, Irvin style. Its going to be embarrassing. In my opinion Cote is one of the most over-rated fighters out there. His UFC fight history is a joke. Losses to Leban, Doerkson, Lutter and Ortiz. And whos he beat to get his title shot?…a 1D jiu jitsu guy, Drew McFedries, and oh yes, lets not forget… “Da Spider” Kendall Grove!
Id put Cote loser in a fight against Marquart, Hendo, Okami, Bisping, Kampmann, hell, even Jason McDonald.
I just dont understand this fight at all.
Okami broke his hand soo Joe Silva is “giving” Anderson this fight just because there really isn’t anyone avaliable to put up a challenge to Anderson… Hopefully next year he could fight Okami, possibly Bisbing, Leben (again), Hendo (again), Maia perhaps or just have two title defenses @ 185 and two fights @ 205 or hell GSP come up to 185 and challenge whynot?
As Okami broke his hand, I think it would have been better seeing as Silva last fought at 205, to keep him there until Okami is ready to go or we got 1 or 2 good solid contenders for him at 185.
That would leave enough time for the Marquart/Hendo/Bisping thing to sort itself out, and pit Cote against someone who could actually give him a fight (i.e one of the aforementioned guys).
And it would also give Silva a good run to position himself in the 205 pecking order.
I do not agree with the idea that Silva will run over Cote in a minute.
I think Silva will win but not as quick as some think.
Cote has a good chin, has never been stopped and is as tough as they come.
I think Cote’s dubious sub defence will be his undoing not his chin.
I’m going with Silva via sub in the 3rd.
I cant see it going out of 2 rounds (and that would be lucky). Irvin has a good chin, Henderson has a good chin, Franklin has a good chin, hmm…with exception to maybe Lutter, all of Silvas victims have had good chins.
Cote’s going to get battered like a wet fish. But thats just my opinion anyway.
As i said i see Silva winning and he has a good chin like Hendo and maybe Franklin (Irvin i’m not so sure of i actually don’t rate the guy)
Of course we all know Silva has the better stand up & submission as i said i think Cote can hang in for a few rounds (maybe 3 is a bit optimistic) he has the chin and as long as he does not make a mistake like Hendo did he might survive for bit.
I really hope Cote wins and will be backing him all the way on the 25th although i think there is as much chance of me waking up to a naked & horny Megan Fox in the mornings for the foreseeable future than Cote winning though.
haha good call man.
I think Sherk/Griffin will be the fight of the night and of course the main event will be interesting. I like underdogs and i like Cote, it’ll be exciting, not like some of the boring UK crap coming up. There will definitely be a KO or two, and i pick Tyson to beat Sherk.
i think fight of the night will either be sherk and griffin or almeida and horwich
Silva is an amazing fighter and I don’t see the main event being much other than a steaming rolling.
I did, however, predict Chuck Liddell would roll over Evans too. Also, in all honesty, my percentage in predictions is probably pretty low.
**check that: steam rolling
Cote making it to the 3rd round?????? Anderson Silva hasn’t seen the 3rd round in his entire UFC carrer and I don’t think Cote will be the one to take him there… I truly think mid 2nd Anderson will win by triangle choke… I just hope he ko’s Cote in 32seconds soo we can see some undercard bouts.
@JOHNBOY – I hadn’t found this until you wrote that the Cage Rage fights were different but apparently Thompson withdrew from the fight due to an injury:
“Due to the very nature of the sport, training accidents do happen and on this occasion, it couldn’t get much worse as one of the Main Bout fighters, James Thompson , has fallen foul of a freak training incident. But as always, we have fighters who are ready at a moments notice and we are excited to be able to announce a Heavyweight replacement bout, featuring 2 fighters, who will give it everything in what promises to be a bruising encounter. Hold on to the edge of your seats as James Mcsweeney and Roman Webber collide at Cage Rage – VIP on 20th September.”
I’ll have the results posted tomorrow.
Anderson Silva is not unstoppable the man has amazing stand up but on the ground he been lucky in the ufc hes came close to losing at 2 fight on the ground its he weak spot – now hes weak spot is still a brown belt and is still very good but if cote whats this fight he should take it to the ground right away no stand up just work ground and you will have a real fight on our hands cote hits very hard and im not taking him lightly on this fight. if he watches the fights that Silva’s lost a good triangle choke will make him tap pretty fast, as it has in the past. he lost his 8th fight winning streak in pride fc to a unexpected fighter by the name of Daiju Takase a rather un-known guy but beat Silva in the first round 8min in and he was totally counted out as well… so i hope to see Cote do the same!
UK_Chris, I’m also at a loss. Maybe no one else would take the fight. In which case I have even more respect for Cote to take the fight. The guys got balls. Big, huge, brass balls. This fight will be an extreme of all the possiblities. On one hand I like Cote and would like to see him win. He won’t last long at the top but… On the other I like a fighter that appears unbeatable and is dominating. Silva needs to lose the chick voice. You’d think someone that can kick that much ass would sound like a man…I’m just sayin
@SegaBlack, why is it everyone doubts Andersons ground game? I do believe also Big Nog awarded Silva his black belt aproxx year and half ago or so, if you doubt Silva’s ground game look at the fight with Nate Marquart he essentially ended that fight with a beautiful switch then proceeded to gnp him… As far as Silva being open to leg and ankle locks also knee bars this is true but I will say since his last ankle lock loss he has done very well on trying to get rid of that hole in his game
Does Cote have a chance to win yes absolutely but I haven’t seen anything from him to make me believe that he has a good chance to even make it a 50/50 fight….
**** this is a killer card. I will try to see the PRELIMINARY fight too. Im behind Cote even if Silva is a maniac. I wish he strike him out.
FR,
I am with you….Silva’s ground game is dandy. It is not even under rated….it seems to be completely over looked as if it is almost non existant. He beat Hendo on the ground….beat Lutter….beat Marquardt…..still no respect for his ground game. Silva reminds me of the days of Mike Tyson in boxing. It isn’t even a question of who will win….it’s a question of how fast and how will he. Cote is no Buster Douglas.
Tokyo 1992? Just off the top of my head, random and nice KOuch
Also it is that many people believe that Anderson has no ground game… Trust me if he wasn’t any good on the ground Hendo would have easily destroyed him, Andreson isn’t Houston Alexander (of which I’m a fan,but let’s be real he need to solely train on the ground for like 3months everday all day)… But KOuch I also believe that people do the same to BJ Penn but in the reverse people know and enjoy his ground skills (which are great no doubt) but his stand up is sooo nasty its great to watch but he has always had really good standup but as of late it seems he has “taken it to the next level” just my thoughts…
I wanna see werdum kick some a$$ , the sherk -griffin fight is also gonna be good .silva should beat cote so there’s no surprise on that one for me
The prelims are better than the main card.
Silva by KO
Sanchez by decision
Reljic by KO
Werdum by decision
Sherk by a Mauling
Maynard by decision
Fisher by TKO
Almeida by submission
Aurelio by Decision
Burkman in a war
There you have it.
such a strong card from top to bottom, even tho the main event wont go out the 1st round!silva by KO about the 3rd minute, cote is gony get smashed! lots of even fights, think alves leites werdum griffin will get wins.
mikew agree with you about the crap coming in the UK,just wish a was going this 1 instead
You never know after fights like Serra/GSP but here is how I see it:
Silva- How can Cote’s slow a$$ beat him?
Sanchez- I feel technical ability overcomes power. Alves has raw strength but Diego is faster and has more skill.
Leites- Just a feeling.
Werdum- I’m not familiar with opponent.
Griffin- Biggest fight of his career and I am bias as hell.
Clementi- I hope differently for Gunslinger but Clementi has a shat load of experience and is a little more well rounded.
Fisher- He’s the man.
Almeida- Just a guess.
Franca- Not impressed with Aurellio at all.
Sell- Not impressed with Burkman. His last win was a split decision over Forrest Petz nearly a year ago….Forrest who?
silva- cote will survive the early first round punishment only to succom to a brutal tko by the spider early in the 2nd
alves- diego will look strong in the first round, dominating alves…but alves is a slow starter and diego will get caught late in the second/third by alves and go down for an alves tko
reljic- reljic will punish leites with kicks to the body, legs, and arms and ride out an easy won unanimous decsion
werdum- santos has lost once by sub in the first and isnt that big of a hw and werdum will catch him with an armbar halfway through the first round and then wait for his chance at the winner of the hw tourny
sherk- as much as id like to see tyson win i just dont see him getting past sherks conditioning….the fight will be close until griffin gases late in the third due to sherks work ethic and wrestling and sherk will capitalize and win a split decsion victory
maynard- i will say KOuch has balls for making the choice he did, but im going to have to disagree and say maynard works the takedown’s/ground and pound and avoids clementi’s subs and wins a unanimous decsion, randys training/grays wrestling will be the better factor than clementi’s subs on his next trip to the title
the king- spencer’s experience will play the big factor and he will submit gugerty in the second with a slick armbar after rocking gugerty early
horwich- as horwich will tell you jesus didnt tap and either will he, matt will come out and use his standup to win on the feet and his sub defense/wrestling to give almeida his second lose in a row…this one by unanimous decsion
franca- hermes is hungry for a win and will come out swinging and will get a brutal ko in the late first/early second
burkman- not a burkman fan but sell hasnt fought for over a year is on a three fight losing streak, burkman will survive the crazy swinging punchs of sell and use his wrestling to ride out the unanimous decsion and cause sell to consider retirement
The one thing Cote has is very fast heavy hands and he punches from angles, he’s not slow at all just overmatched in this one.
Some people are forgetting that this is MMA and not a wrestling or a Jiu jitsu match. How did Silva beat those guys who had the better ground game credentials than him? CUZ HE WHOOPED THEIR A$$ ON THE FEET!
I’m giving Cote a punchers chance but thats about it. Silva has no excuse to lose this one. I think if you put 5$ on Cote youll probably win back 50$ if he wins.
Clementi and Maynard might be the submission of the night, but a great fight. Clementi might tell Maynard to “take some jui jitsu lessons” again like he did Cokehead boy
Knockout of the night is definitely going to Silva cuz hes Anderson Silva
Fight of the night is going to Alves and Sanchez. Love him or hate him Sanchez is a tough, non stop exciting fighter, and his new stand up skills are going to keep this fight with alves at the edge of my seat. But I’m taking Sanchez with a TKO
where is dolfan G when you need him dolphins are dominating the patriots….ronnie and ricki are unstoppable and chad is fantastic not to mention our defense and wr
i have:
burkman by UD
franca by TKO
almedia by definatly SUMBIT
maynard by TKO
sherk by TKO
werdum definatly TKO
leites UD
sanchez TKO be a good fight
silva by knock out
even though i would lick cote to KO him
and i can’t believe it omg dolphans killing pats
forgot fisher
i have THE KING TO WIN BY FINISHING i would’t know how
My Fins took it at their house! The season starts today!
When I think about Anderson Silva, I have to think the ground is his weakness. He has beaten everybody standing up easily. He has had to work on the ground and has looked beatable at times. that’s not to say he’s weak on the ground, I just mean if you’re in a fight with Anderson Silva, do yourself a favor and take it to the ground. It’s like when Tyson was at his peak… Circle to his left. If he hit you with a left hook, oh yeah… you were going to sleep, but I’d rather take my chances with that than his right hand.
hasuk to me is the ears got stolin the win over bucks..
super lucky
should of been bears
huh?
UFC fan
Did you say you would…”lick”… Cote???… That’s just wrong…
like i mean not lick
i meant i would like cote to kill ANDERSON SILVA..
Thanks for the clarification… I thought maybe you were willing to go a long way to see Silva lose.
PRELIMINARY CARD
Rich Clementi vs. Gray Maynard
Spencer Fisher vs. Shannon Gugerty
Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Horwich
Hermes Franca vs. Marcus Aurelio
Josh Burkman vs. Pete Sell
Not bad for a prelim…
Gunslinger,
I’ll tell you this….at heart I will be pulling for Maynard and Griffin that night. My heart says they win but reality tells me otherwise. I truly believe they both are the underdogs who both have a great chance to win. Clementi vs Griifin early 2009…..You and I will have an emotional war if that happens…
Sorry gun I meant Maynard.
Maynard/Griffin 2009…..that is what will get our emotions going against one another.
sorry about the wrong name. I have the 49ers on TV and Giants on the radio while trying to type. Lincecum vs Ramirez this February.
that would be a good fight i hope for tyson to win
tyson and maynard both train at xtreme couture and are best friends..so i dont know if that is a possibility unless they just do it for fun and fight each other
Man I think the dvd will be great because the bottom of the card just looks way better than the top…So I say see it live or wait till Dana sells the whole thing or gives it away on Spike…
OK… I’m sorry for this post, but I just have to sound off here. I’m watching the Dolphins destroy the Patriots, of course so I can watch each play carefully. I just watched Ronnie Brown make a long run for a TD in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Ricky Williams made a nice block on Vrable who was chasing Ronnie Brown. Vrable didn’t like it and tried to start a fight. The PUNK ref threw a flag on both guys. Vrable didn’t like Williams blocking after Brown had passed him because he couldn’t catch Brown anyway… If Vrable felt that way, then why didn’t he just stop running? That was a cheap foul on Williams who made a great block and hustled on the play. Screw Vrable… he’s a cry baby chump.
I’m watching the game on my DVR… I didn’t get to see the whole game earlier.
DolfanG,
Serious question…Is Ricky teaching any Yoga down there?
My picks are:
Silva
Alves
Leites
Werdum
Sherk
Maynard
Fisher
Almeida
Franca
Burkman
It looks like a really good card. It would be nice if Sherk would actually finish a fight, but we’ll see. I think Sanchez has a chance against Alves due to his skill level, but I think Alves has a huge strength advantage. Silva should win unless Cote Serra’s him. I’m interested in seing if Almeida can get to a level where he can really compete with the top people again.
Dolfan,
All I can say is I am so F-ING happy for you and your team. F the Patriots. I’m a 49er FAITHFUL and say F NEW ENGLAND! F DALLAS! and F GREEN BAY! I see the Niners actually having a chance against the pats now. There is that chance that your Dolphins may have reignited the fire of the Patriots but without Brady….. we will see…
Gun,
Bff’s? really? I did not know that. You are not stalking Maynard are you? I know you he is your favorite fighter but don’t be like that guy in Blades of Glory….
KOuch,
Thank your Niners for me for further exposing how awful my Lions are.
why is maynard/clementi on the prelims? same with almeda, the dude’s last fight was against the guy who’s the “no. 1 contender” and it was a close decision, and he’s got pretty good skills, why not market the guy? i could see him bein a pretty good force at 185, i think he’d hang with any of the top 5 guys in that class.
winners
silva- cote has a punchers chance but its to small of a chance
sanchez- alves is known to be a slow starter and diego is a fast one i see deigo with the takedown then mounting him and getting a rear naked for the win
leites- reljic has great stand up but needs to polish it up a bit he gets hit way to much
werdum- he is just going to be too much for santos
griffin- i actually see him winning this fight people say that sherks conditioning is going to be the determining factor but its only a three round fight i see tyson being a little stronger and beating him by decision
clementi- maynard will get a bit careless and slam clementi and will get caught with a submission that is if the slam doesnt stop clementi first
fisher- he is just going to keep winning watch out for spencer fisher vs clay guida in december or january
almieda- he should not be on the prelim card he was up for number 1 contendership so i see him fighting like a contender
franca- edgar was a bad match up for hermes and he should stop aureilleo easily
burkman- pete sell just for some reason doesnt impress me i see burkman by decison
Sweet card
PETE “DRAGO” SELL
hes do for a win
KO FOR PETE
