Despite changing reports earlier this week that Ken Shamrock would be facing Michael Bisping at UFC 75 in September it appears that Matt Hamill is still the fighter scheduled to face the TUF 3 winner.
According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observerthe bout that Ticketmaster originally announced between Hamill and Bisping is still on. Here’s an excerpt from the report:
“Michael Bisping vs. Matt Hamill is still the scheduled match on that show [UFC 75]. There are rumors regarding Bisping vs. Ken Shamrock, but that may have been discussed but it is not the current plan.”
So how did all of the reports of Ken Shamrock taking on Bisping arise? Well quite simply the fight network reported the potential of a fight and it appears that although talks may have taken place about Bisping fighting Shamrock he will instead face Hamill in the fight.
Despite being a major draw for the UFC and one of the most well-known young fighters in the sport Bisping has his fair share of critics who mainly target the lack of quality opponents he has faced this far. Specifically, Bisping’s last win fight against Elvis Sinosic was highly criticized due to the lack of wins Sinosic had to his name and the overall poor performance he had turned in during his UFC career.
A fight with the 3-0 Hamill is what many fans have been calling for: a fight against a legitimate opponent who can actually put Bisping up to a more serious test. The undefeated Hamill seems to fit this bill much more than Ken Shamrock who has won just one of his last seven fights. It appears Hamill will ultimately wind up competing against Bisping at UFC 75 with a confirmation of the fight coming from the UFC in the coming weeks.
