Shannon GugertyMelvin Guillard has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Spencer Fisher at UFC 90 “Silva vs. Cote” for undisclosed reasons.

Shannon Gugerty has been tapped to replace Guillard on the card.

Sherdog reported the lineup change late Tuesday.

“Melvin is off the card, and they went through three or four opponents and settled on Gugerty,” Fisher told Sherdog.com.

Gugerty (11-2) has won eight-straight fights including a first-round submission of Dale Hartt in his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 14 in July.

Fisher (21-4) rebounded from a unanimous decision loss to Frank Edgar at UFC 78 in late-2007 with a unanimous decision victory over Jeremy Stephens at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale in June.

Anderson Silva will put his middleweight title on the line against Patrick Cote in the UFC 90 main event. The pay-per-view card is also slated to featured Diego Sanchez vs. Thiago Alves, Tyson Griffin vs. Sean Sherk, and Thales Leites vs. Goran Reljic.

  • Us and Chuck says:

I hope he has been fired i doubt it though

  • KOuch says:

Melvin’s attitude has been cocky, arogant, egotistical and he seems to overrate himself in his own head while expressing it through his words. I loved seeing Rich Clementi man handle him into a submission. It was even better when Big Daddy pulled off that submission on Melvin within 25 seconds of rd 1. I don’t remember the exact time but it had to be embarrassing to be Melvin that night. He got submitted so f-ing fast and then I think he cried. I still remember Rashad Evans telling him on TUF2 not to act all cocky and what not. Melvin has done fine against younger fighters who are still developing talent but he looked way out of his league against Stevenson and Clementi. In my opinion, Melvin needs to fight in smaller promotions to develope/work on his submission defense, takedown defense and ground game. Not too long agfo someone told me e was great wrestler. Now that I think back to his match with Clementi……I think whoever said that was on crack or missed all his fights up to that point. Melvin does have a lot of power in his hands but it’s next to useless because of his crazy aggressive style. A good fighter cannot be approached in crazy fashion if his opponent wants the win. Fighters need to pick their shots and take their time rather than go nuts and swing for the fences, make mistakes, get caught or get winded. Leben and Marquardt have both said something on the lines of that after winning and showing improvement in their own fight games. Melvin should listen up. I can see Melvin having a good career but something has to change. I cannot say for sure but I think a new camp far away from whereever he currently trains would be a good start.

  • KOuch says:

WOW……I typed that much about MELVIN!?!?! I cannot believe myself. It’s just Melvin….F HIM!

  • Arnold Darkshner says:

I just read Fisher said Melvin is injured so I guess he hasn’t been fired.

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

if by injury u mean he couldnt find any coke to help him train then yes he is “injured” and i dont think anyone said he was a good wrestler i think wats said about him is hes explosive in all aspects and hes got good hips but as for his wrestling skills there decent his weakness is the defence aspect of wrestling he thinks he can just overpower his opponents takedown and thats not gonna work but back to the topic im disappointed hes hurt him vs spence wouldve been a slugfest and also he did knock gay gabe out wit a body punch so atleast thank him for that

  • timcat says:

Melvin is a major dissapointment. Joe stevenson shut him up and now he can’t get right.

  • Dietrich says:

    Right on Timcat…..

  • jazzkok says:

Dude, i like guillard. like you guys, i think he can be a little bit%h @ times, but if hes fighting a talented striker like spencer fisher who is JUST willing to stand up, hes exciting to watch cuz you know someones getting ko’d.

  • Rhymeskill15 says:

    i agree jazz..
    guillard has talent…
the fight with spencer could have been really exciting..

  • DolfanG says:

Melvin has a long way to go before he’s much of a threat to Spencer Fisher or anybody of his caliber. If Melvin is injured, then why didn’t they say he’s injured? It almost sounds like Spencer Fisher, nice guy that he is, is trying to cover up for Melvin. Could he have failed a drug test or something? Very curious.

    huertarogerhuerta,

It would be easier to read what you have to say if you would use puncuation. I enjoy reading your posts, but sometimes I struggle with it.

  • T3chn3tnium says:

The Ole Ragin Cajun.. kid has potential. he seemed to be getting right on track after his last fight i think. forgot who he knocked out in the first round.

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

DolfanG sry im a bit of a ranter. ill try to remember the periods and question marks. im glad u enjoy readin my posts i often find myself talkin my friends to death when it comes to mma so its nice to b able to talk to people who kno wat im talkin about and who also have more knowledge then just wat they see on spike.

  • KOuch says:

    huerta,

I’m in the same boat with the ranting and friends not knowing WTF I’m talking about. Even last weekend a friend I haven’t seen in a few months asked me how the f–k I knew what I was saying. I told him mostly the internet but I think a lot of us here and on other sites follow MMA just like many others follow NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL……or porn.

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

KOuch always nice to meet a fellow ranter and one who shares my fondness of midgets no less!! ha but yea i used to watch baseball then football and dependin on which one of my teams(yankees and the G-MEN and if im watchin basketball the mavericks) was doing good would dictate which sport i would follow if they were goin on at the same time. now its mma wit the other sports on the side until the playoffs but i dont gotta worry bout that just yet cuz the yankees blew this season.

  • timcat says:

    Huerta and KOuch,

Me too, not only do I rant, I talk Sh*t at the same time. The only one who understands me is other MMA fans. I have people at work who don’t consider it a sport and tell me they don’t want to hear it, so I tell them anyway. I love it!!!

  • KOuch says:

    Timcat,

Continue jamming the MMA down their throats. People do not realize the loyalty of MMA hardcore fans and how we hold the sport so dear/close to our hearts.
