I'll give it you the Affliction show left a lot to be desired but I felt that watching great heavyweights like Fedor, Arlovski, and Barnett was worth the price of admission. Cut them a little slack. It was their 1st show. If they are around awhile they'll get better.

Fans didn't like the first one because it was a poor quality product. Charity shouldn't have a $50 price tag. Fans helped carry the UFC through the lean years why should they be asked to carry other organizations that are trying to do Zuffa in?

Brandon

Well said Brandon! You are right on the money. Competition brings out the best in atheletes. It also brings out the best in business. No competition is also boring. I really don't understand why some guys are so critical of the lack of competition in Affliction or other promotions and at the same time don't want any competition for the UFC. It's real curious to me...

Competition is not only good for the fans, it's good for the fighters as well. Other shows being put on will force the UFC to have bigger main events. It also gives fighters more leverage. Dana and his great big ego will be forced to treat the fighters well to keep them from leaving. Not only that. The fighters deserve to be able to fight outside their promotion to make more $ and test themselves against the best in the world. Everyone should support rival promotions to support the fighters and the sport as a whole.

KOuch I think you give affliction way to much credit. They are gonna take a bath this next PPV, even though Fedor is scheduled to be on the new January card. They will be going up against a boxing PPV and I'm sure Dana will have the NYE show free on spike or something during the same time. Their numbers will be less than 100,000 buys. MMA fans have seen the lack of depth and interesting fighters. I mean really is anyone gonna spend $40 to watch Fedor fight some random nobody? You might as well watch a old Pride fight on DVD for $19.99 cause either way you know who's gonna win. Its a flawed company and I think its over by this time next year.

Big Stan,

The LAST THING MMA needs is BOXING as a "major promotional backing." BOXING promotions are BAD for MMA. Affliction way of running business has proven to not be faulty. Remember, Affliction put themselves $7million in the hole and are basically a ONE MAN (Fedor) promotion. How can Golden Boy productions do anything to the UFC? WTF does anyone affiliated with Golden Boy productions know about the business of MMA? Only my opinion but Affliction will go under within 2 1/2 years unless there is amjor change in their roster and presetation.....In other words, they need a complete business 360 right now.

Guys,

Affliction arn't going to bomb, they are pulling it due to the UFC being the big dog in Vegas and Dana meesing them up promoting it, however they are also pulling it as I reckon they are going to announce something with Oscar Del La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.

So they could well be getting some major promotional backing through them, this will open the promotional channels in Vegas as the Golden boy would be able to cut through any shite the UFC try to pull.

Only an opinion but I reckon Affliction will be around for a while yet!.

When the Affliction card was first released I looked at it and thought, "Wow, Affliction is going be be some good competition for the UFC." They were able to get all these fighters that were big names. I was excited to see who else they could bring in. It turns out that they are a one trick pony, and use Fedor as their freak show. I seriously considered buying the Affliction Banned PPV, but stuck with the Fight Night and watched MMALinker.com for the Fedor match. Even though AA vs Barnett would be a good match, I really didn't plan on getting this one.

It looks like they need Fedor to headline in order to sell out. Or they could do what the Elite XC is doing, using hometown heros to headline or co-headline. Nick Diaz in Stockton, CA was huge for the fans. UFC had Lesnar in Minnesota, GSP in Canada, Bisping in the UK. Thet might help them sell more that 800 tickets.

I doubt the UFC loses money on a fight night. They could add on more FN's for more oppoturnities for more fighters. They still get paid for commercials, sponsers, and selling tickets.

Also, don't forget the Banned PPV was originally going to be in Dallas(I know because I planned on going) but was later moved to SoCal.

Would the UFC ever re-open the WEC and PRIDE? WEC could be the minors in the US, and PRIDE could be the minors in Japan. Especially PRIDE, people hear that name and drool. I was excited when the UFC bought PRIDE because I thought we would see fighters move from ring to cage, and cage to ring to see who was the best of the best. But all they did was get most of the big name stars in the UFC, and dump a bunch of Japan fighters.
