Huerta Fighting Doug Evans on The Ultimate Fighter 5 Live Finale
Earlier this month we reported that Roger Huerta would be fighting at UFC 74 in August. It has now been confirmed by Huerta himself that his fight has been moved up…considerably. The Sports Illustrated cover man has confirmed he will be fighting in just a few weeks at The Ultimate Fighter 5 live finale on Spike TV.
Here is what Huerta said in a bulletin on MySpace:
My next fight has been changed!!
I’m going to be fighting on June 23rd. I was just notified last night. It will be live on Spike TV so check it out. God bless.
Huerta is quickly becoming a top fighter in the UFC’s lightweight division with a 17-1-1 overall record, an unblemished 3-0 record in the UFC, and 14 straight fights without a loss. His win against Leonard Garcia, who will also be fighting at the TUF 5 finale, was one of the best fights from UFC 69 in April. His other UFC wins are over John Halverson and Jason Dent.
He will be facing relative MMA newcomer Doug Evans who has a 2-0 MMA record. The fight will be his UFC debut. He has fought exclusively in the Alaska Fighting Championship organization and is a member of “The Wolfpack” fight team. The announcement of his fight against Huerta came via the team’s MySpace page. He is the AFC’s bantamweight champion.

Doug takes this one and will shock A LOT of people
I really hope your wrong Pitbullzz, I’ve been banking on Huerta moving up the rankings and ruling the division, and was disappointed at first to see him against such an inexperienced opponent.
But with a record of 2-0 and being the champ, he must have been pretty impressive to be given a title shot after his first fight, and then equally if not more impressive again to be given the opportunity to fight in the UFC, and to pit him against someone like Huerta says a lot about his potential. So the possibility of an upset is likely (especially given the current turn of events lately).
But on the other hand, Garcia was no slouch himself, and Huerta just dominated him the entire bout. Either way, it looks like the makings of a really good fight. Surprised if it turns out to be an upset — no, not after the Alexander fight — but definitely disappointed.
