Paulo Filho: Anderson Silva Fight “Definitely Out of My Plans”

A briefly-rumored future bout between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and middleweight champion Paulo Filho has already been nixed.
Last week both fighters’ manager, Ed Soares, commented that a fight between the two was a possibility but added that it would be an “uphill battle” to get the fighters to agree to the matchup.
Filho on Thursday told Tatame that the proposed fight won’t be happening.
“Definitely no,” said Filho on a potential bout against Silva. “We’re close friends and I believe there’s space for everybody there, it’s definitely out of my plans.”

That’s the way I feel too… If he thought he could compete, he’d still fight his friend. It doesn’t mean you have to hate each other. It’s a sport and sometimes you have to compete against your friends. That is such a lame excuse… I’d rather hear him say that Silva is too much better than he is and he’s not ready for a fight like that. I might have a little more respect for the boy if he told the truth.

I think friendship plays a big vagine role in all of this. I’m sure Filho knows Silva’s strengths and weaknesses (there are none) almost better than anyone else. He is well aware of the annihilation he would be facing if he chose to fight Silva. Unfortunately for Filho, the MW BELT belongs to Silva and unless Filho moves up or down, he has ZERO chance at ever being a champion.

I wonder if Christiane “Cyborg” Santos is a friend of his too or would he be willing to fight her. They could go shopping together beforehand and get some pretty new things to wear in the ring. He’d probably leave the ring on a stretcher and wouldn’t want to be her friend anymore… he better not take that fight…

People are going a little over board with anger towards Filho. He said he doesn’t want to fight because they are friends. Whether that is true or not we the fans, Filho and Silva KNOW what the outcome of the match would be. Silva by TKO rd 1. Filho needs to strongly consider a change in weight division or he will be going in never go anywhere. I do not believe the MW title will be in another fighter’s hands for a LONGGGG time. Anderson is going to go down in history as one of the longest reigning champions of all time.

KOuch… I hear ya… The Filho hatin’ is pretty thick, but the guy did the ultimate stupid thing and that’s to rule out ever fighting the champion. If you have no thoughts of ever fighting for a championship, why go back into the ring? He could have done what Duante Culpepper did and just retire with what little dignity he has left… Now he just looks like a punk. Don’t blame us, blame him.

Well, I guess Filho has now officially joined the rankings of KJ Noons and company in the eyes of the masses….or so it seems. I do hope Filho puts together some impressive wins to gain back some fans.
He’ll be in the UFC soon enough. He’ll prove what kind of fighter he is then. I just hope he doesn’t refuse to fight a specific fighter again because “they’re friends”… yea, sure you are… I bet Sonnen would fight Silva even though Silva would beat the tar out of him.
KJ Noons is a good corolation… KJ cried like a baby about unfair life is… Filho just doesn’t want to hurt his buddy and take his title away from him… ain’t that thoughtful?
While I also think silva would destroy Filho I do think that A. Silva has SOME weaknesses, his wrestling for one. While he did well against a clinch wrestler in Dan Henderson, someone with a nice explosive shot can put A. silva on his back often. Also his BJJ (while being extremely good!) is not the best in the world, he can still fall subject to submission. But if you try to stand with the guy it’s lights out for sure!
Brandon, I agree with you too. I think Silva is subject to being beaten on the mat. Lutter did well with him on the mat. Henderson is his match on the mat and stand up. If they have a rematch, I would be surprised if Henerson didn’t win by KO or submission.
I think filho would stand a better chance than people give him . However this isnt the time to have a fight like this for him . He is coming back from some tough problems and it will take a bit to get that edge back . he isnt 16-0 for nothing , having beat some of the best out there .i just think with silva on a roll and paulo not 100% would make a lousy fight at this point . Could be a big money fight down the road ….

Send some of that love to the champ. Paulo said he wouldn’t fight Anderson. But Anderson said he wouldn’t fight Paulo or Machida. Paulo shouldn’t have to fight him anyway…He should be at LA Weight Loss trying to get down to 170.

paulo filho nunca perdio en PRIDE, Silva perdio con luchadores de la misma calidad (Ryo Chonan, Takase) y nunca fue campeon en PRIDE, Filho no fue campeon por lesiones, yo creo que gana Filho por sumision en el 3 round. Filho a derrotado a Misaki, Chonan (gano a Silva), Murilo Ninja, Suloev, Kondo, etc.
If you are taking Filho via submission in the 3rd based off of Silva’s loss to Ryo in PRIDE please reconize that Anderson has changed soo very much in his ground game since soley studying with Big Nog its crazy, hmmmm Silva left PRIDE became better the greatest MW ever, Paulo left PRIDE went to WEC barely beat Sonnen (on a some say questionable tap) and began a new found drug dependancy (which is in all seriousness sad)… Paulo will not beat Silva in the condition he is in now if ever cheers!!! O and beating Ninja and Kondo ehh it is what it is and Filho still has nunca losses peasce pimpin..
