Faber, Garcia May Headline Mexico WEC Event

WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber and 145-pound contender Leonard Garcia may square off for the title in a future headlining bout in Mexico according to MMA Junkie.
“They’re flying me out six days after the (Pulver) fight to Mexico City to do a press conference and to make a huge announcement,” said Garcia. “As I understand it, both Urijah and I are going. … I think both of us just need to hold up our ends of the bargain on Sept. 10. So yeah, you essentially hit the nail on the head.”
The bout hinges on Faber emerging victorious from his WEC36 main event bout against Mike Brown and Garcia topping former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver at the September 10th event.

I have to admit that I can’t remember seeing Garcia fight, but there aren’t many 145s in the world that can beat Jens Pulver. If he looks past Pulver for a second, he’ll wake up staring at the doctor wondering why the doctor is in his face.
On the other hand… is there a 145 guy that can beat Faber? He’s just about beat all of the contenders. Maybe he should go to Japan and fight a few of those 145s.
DolfanG, Garcia v Huerta is a must see if u have never seen Garcia fight
Ya big annoucement WEC in mexico would be awesome especially if its Garcia v Faber the only problem I see with it is how is the WEC going to justify Garcia fighting for the belt after Jens “Lil Evil” Pulver knocks him out? Or destroys him like he did Cub Swanson
Dude this is not only a distraction for garcia, but puts more pressure on him to beat pulver. Is everyone ALREADY counting pulver out like i’m already planning to see chuck vs griffin?
Garcia Huerta was a war!
Huerta vs. Garcia was an awesome fight
Yeah great fight at UFC 69 the fight was and after the fight Garcia dropped to 145.

I agree i wish Dana will make the Kid Yammamoto vs Faber fight happen it is the only thing left for Faber at 145
Garcia is the warm up. The Kid will be a PPV as well as Tyson.
This is great. I hope the UFC goes to Mexico also. Plus, the PPVs would be at the regular time, unlike UK at 3pm on a Saturday.
why doesn’t this faber guy fight in the ufc!?!!?!?
i have never seen any of his fights…
anybody think he would hang in the ufc’s lightweight division!?!!?
Faber’s lone loss came to Tyson Griffin @ 155 Faber is an absolute beast @ 145, the reason that Faber isn’t in the UFC is simply because they (UFC) doesn’t have a 145lbs division, and WEC is the orginazation that has the best 145 pounders in the US imo, check out Faber’s fights if u get the oppritunity
The UFC don’t have his weight class. Faber is probably the 3rd best pound 4 pound fighter in the world right now.
I have never understood the “pound for pound” thing. What in the heck is that supposed to mean? Before you answer, I know what it means, but it doesn’t mean a thing. It’s just somebody’s way of saying “if only” in a different way. The fact is Uriah Faber is as good at 145 as BJ Penn is at 155 and Anderson Silva at 185 and Fedor is as a heavyweight, but I don’t see any of those guys beating Fedor. That’s the bottom line.
Anderson Silva would knock Fedor out.
that faber guy doesn’t really impress me…
sorry guys…
but he really has no comp at 145…im sure there are good fighters @ 145…but the true comp is @ lightweight and up…
if i saw him compete against flo..huerta..stevenson..penn…and he dominated all of these guys then i would consider him one of the “top 3″ in the world…
but he is fighting in a depleted division…and he needs to move up and take on a bigger challenge…
until then i can not really consider him one of the greatest!!!!!!!!
Ryhme, ok I feel what u are saying plus his lone loss came @ 155
But wouldn’t you say that when u are sooo dominant at a weight that’s a good thing ie Anderson, GSP, BJ, Fedor past includes Wanderlei and Chuck, see perhaps he should move up in weight but the only person people think can take him @ 145 is Kid, but he is in Japan and with the WEC having Pulver, Swanson, Big Frog Curran, and they just signed the 145 guy from IFL there is no reason for him to jump to the UFC rightnow, I also believe that Faber can beat Joe, Huerta, KenFlo is more of a test and I doubt he would even fight BJ because they are decent friends
FR I totally respect your comment…
imnot very familiar with faber and the fighters in his division…
soo my remarks are based on minimal info…
i just feel that he can not be considered one the top 3…
if he is dominating a division that does not have the type of comp as lw-hw…
all the fighters u listed above are truly dominant fighters…and they have all defeated top fighters in their respectable divisions..
i just feel that the top fighters he has defeated…are not equivalent to the type of fighters that the men u listed above had to fight…
u get me!?!?
Rhyme, I Feel ya, if u could watch his fights and become familiar with his competion u might get a litte more respect for him and his talents I would love to see Faber move up and take on 155ers but there is a time and a place for it now isn’t his time
O by the way top 3 p4p imo are Anderson Silva, GSP, Fedor we could argue all night in what order they fall and why but whatever thx
yea i agree with u…
i saw two of his fights and he is truly a beast…
i just think he needs more of a challenge…
but that is a great 3…i couldn’t agree more!
But then again p4p means different things to different people that too is an argument waiting to happen….. Yet as much as I do like Faber as a fighter (haven’t met him personally) I thing he has to work harder than most because of the fact that he is a 145er and doesn’t have that large of a weight class (no pun intended) ie from 155-265 those are the most know competitors in MMA I mean really who has seen more than two of Torres’ fights (135 WEC champ) I’ve seen 6 or so but a lot of people truly don’t know who he is and that’s a shame, the point is the truly “little” guys don’t get much exposure to fans other than the WEC or your local show
FR702,
While I agree with your assesment about Faber, I have seen him get out of bad situations that a lesser fighter would tap to. That has to say something about his testicular fortitude. Yes he has nobody to fight at 145, thats because he beat them all. He will move up to the big leagues when he is ready.
GARCIA WELL OWN LIL EVIL HE WENT TO WAR WITH ROGER HURETA

Anderson Silva would knock Fedor out? I doubt that Fedor would even notice Silva in the ring. Fedor has taken tremendous shots from heavyweights and hasn’t been knocked out yet, what in the world would make you think a middleweight would knock him out?
man…fedor vs silva!!!?!??!?
that would be interesting…but i would say fedor would knock him out…silva has never really been hit by such power…fedor would hurt silva @ 205..
I think Silva could hang around for a decision(loss).
