I think Affliction’s first show is going to be very hard for them to match with any upcoming shows. I just don’t get even the slightest vibe off this upcoming card that makes me feel like, “ahhh, good match I’d hate to miss it.” Maybe when Fedor is back I’ll reconsider.
i think the hieron/fickett buentello/nelson and arlovski/barnett fights all sound pretty interesting
No reason to watch this now. No Fedor = no PPV buys!
Jay Hieron is a fantastic fighter. He got KO’d be GSP for sure but he’s come a long way since then. Ficket will be a perfect challenge for him. Affliction is looking fun!
The fights booked are kinda boring from the name stand point , but thats not the issue here . The issue is tha Affliction really has no fighter base to match from . They seem to be going around to other promotions and offering big money to the top guys to fight on their cards which in turn hurts the other guys because they only have a few name fighters themselves and cant expect them to fight every month or two .They are supposed to be helping not hurting .My last point is for elitexc ..GET RID OF THE LITTLE PROMOTIONS YOU OWN AND CONSOLIDATE THEM INTO THE ELITEXC BRAND ..YOU ARE DYING BECAUSE THE TALENT IS THIN .
Dr. Doom, good name! Would you prefer Affliction offer top dollar to lesser talent? Or maybe put a television show together of rookies than shove them down your throat with each PPV? I agree, the card’s name recognition isn’t the same as the first. It’s pretty much AA vs Barnett. Still the PPVs UFC has been putting together have also been one big name plus filler. I never watched the IFL so I am interested in at least getting a look at these guys in the PPV.
this is a good card. AA vs barnett main event to see
who fights fador you dont want to see that? boring?
idk. its only there second card they gotta build up there fighters.
Hieron is good…I just don’t see a ppv purchase here either.
I’m afraid this event will fail big time. I really don’t want to see Affliction go under.
I think AA vs Barnett has the potential to be the best heavyweight match all year. Their striking game will be great and sambo vs catch wrestling will be very interesting.. At the end of the day I think this fight is worth the price alone and all the ufc marks should get this ppv to see what real heavyweights are all about
No doubt I will be purchasing this card. Hieron is a great fighter…wish I could be there to see him.
Affliction needs a new marketing strategy if they want to compete, though. Perhaps an EliteXC/Affliction merger will be in the works at some point?
Bottom line is, they have to offer top dollar for fighters because they don’t have any. I certainly don’t want to see a bunch of rookies on the card that I’ve never heard of. If they can keep up with each fight having a well known fighter then perhaps they can make it.
Keep trying out the unknowns on the known. Eventually one of them is gonna win and then he becomes a ‘base’ fighter for Affliction.
Yep, still not watching this card.
Especially not for $40.
I hate to say this being of similar size myself but the HVWTs bore me me to no end. With a few exceptions of course but generally its like watching Holyfield box back in the day. 90 seconds of action and 90 seconds of boredom(terror if the other guy has anything left in his tank and you bet Holyfield). Torres-Faber-Penn-Condit-GSP-Filho-Silva-. All the champs in the smaller weights put on the better show.I think its just a learning curve that the American fans had to go through. Great standup+great ground =a great fight. Headhunting sucks….And thats still what we get in 205+ more often than not anyway. Just one opinion…
Of course the above was prompted by the AA Barnett fight…(Some Sambo”More Boxing” vs Catch plus more kickboxing)…
Dietrich apparently you’ve never seen Fedor fight. He’s non-stop action.
I don’t care if it’s UFC, WEC, Affliction, Elite, etc. I just want to watch fights. This will be a good card and AA will be facing Fedor on Affliction 3.
AA vs Barnett is one of the best main events of the year. If you can buy Liddel vs Evans, Silva vs Cote or watch Bisping vs Leben than the $40 for this PPV is a bargain.
Dannyboy,
Of course I have seen Fedor fight everbody and everything. The problem is half the time its a carnival…
Don’t drink the Fedor Kool Aid…Its Jim Jones’ favorite flavor.
Hey Bignerd ,
Thanks about the Nickname .. david schultz coulda been a MMA legend . Just a bit early for his time .Anyways …the point i was making is the fact that all these little orgs and the belts they make lessen the prestige of the titles and fighters themselves and only make bookings more difficult .WAMMA just makes things more difficult by presenting more belts to **** about … so what happens to the champs from the other orgs then ??? do certain promotions face years of non title matches because they can land the WAMMA champ for a fight due to schedualing ? It doenst help if noone wants to do it .
Dr. Doom, I respect the argument but the plan of bringing in all MMA to one organization/promotion has already failed . . . and I would say miserably. Last year when UFC purchased Pride MMA was essentially united. Look how short that harmony lasted. Dana thought he was supreme authority and ripped into his fighters contracts, wages and careers. Affliction’s ranks are filled with good, even top notch fighters who have a real bone to pick with UFC management.
In short UFC became a stumbling, power hungry monopoly and I fully believe MMA is better with these new startup promotions and splintered titles. Not to mention UFC had all those fighters but showed cheap, unskilled TUF alumni.
