Noons vs. Diaz “Definitely Not Happening” On October 4th
EliteXC vice president Jared Shaw has informed MMA Junkie that a rumored rematch between EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons and Nick Diaz is “definitely not happening” on October 4th, EliteXC’s next scheduled nationally-televised event on CBS.
EliteXC this week set a 24-hour deadline for Noons to accept the bout against Diaz but the deadline passed and the promotion has now opted to scrap the bout.
“KJ Noons versus Nick Diaz is definitely not happening on Oct. 4. I still believe KJ Noons can defend his title,” Shaw told MMA Junkie. “I still believe KJ Noons is a man of honor. He comes from a great family, a fighting family. He’s a great kid. He’s a great athlete. I think he’s just being mismanaged right now.”
Shaw, desperate to book the heated grudge match to provide a boost for the struggling promotion, called on Noons to defend the lightweight title.
“I think you’re a champion. I don’t think you’re scared of Nick Diaz,” said Shaw. “I would like you to prove that to the world — that you are the champion that we believe you are. EliteXC 100 percent believes that you can win this fight. We 100 percent believe Nick Diaz can win the fight. We 100 percent believe that together you make a spectacular fight. KJ Noons, please wake up and smell that beautiful Hawaiian coffee. We want you to fight. We believe in you. Believe in yourself, and defend this belt.”

Unfu{king believable just fight Diaz and get over this bs its like the Shaw’s are attempting to make drama to put EliteXC in the MMA spotlight with all of this instead of people focusing on them and their parent company losing extreme amounts of money and cancelling shows…
koons is a goon and i cant stand this pretty boy. i know the old diaz could whoop the sh1t out of him but the diaz of latley might not make it happen.when they out numbered diaz and his dad swung on on them in the ring after managment told them to enter the cage realy showed what turkey ****s him and his family are.i hope koons has a very short and unremembered career.way to step up and help the promotion when they need it.

KJ is scared to fight Diaz. The only reason KJ won the first bout was because of doctor stoppage. I feel that they need to re-match. A title match needs to end by submission, TKO, KO, score cards. That’s a regular MMA fight.
ELite XC has a lot of potential, but they need to give the fans what they want, not what the champs want. Nick is the toughest guy in the Elite XC, pound for pound.

Hyp05 I agree with you. No Champ dictates who he fights, its not up to the fighters. But what is really happening is noons douche bag agent is the real one stalling the fight. Everything I’ve read about him, he’s a real scum bag. He is very Don King like, hopefully organization like elite XC and the UFC will not deal with him anymore.

Koons knows he got lucky the first time. Diaz is world class and a way better fighter/athlete/man than he is. I hope he finally excepts the fight gets beat and goes back to obscurity where he belongs. Bottom line; KJ Koons is a joke.

WoW…..Elite acted pretty desperate in that last quote/paragraph. Noons is a biatch for not taking th fight. I don’t care if he beat Diaz previously…..he has a job. Noons will not even help his ailing promoter in a time of need. Great employee. Well, on the good side for me, I don’t like Noons and his lack of drive and heart should keep him a good distance from ever coming to the UFC.

Does anyone else agree that, when an organization has to literally BEG its lightweight champion to defend his belt, there’s seriously something wrong? I honestly cannot take EliteXC seriously when they act like this. Do you think you’d ever see Dana on TV begging for BJ Penn to defend his belt? These are fighters. They’re “supposed” to want to fight and defend their title, correct? Then again, maybe I”m wrong. Maybe Noons is just being very mismanaged. Still, if I was Shaw, I wouldn’t say that stuff publicly. Makes EliteXC look weak (whether I believe they’re weak or not…that’s another issue).

I get it, you’re UFC fans, not MMA fans. If there aren’t other nationally televised MMA organizations, like Elite XC, Strikeforce and Affliction, where do the non-UFC fighters go?
Jared Shaw is young, and he’s learning on the job. Give Elite XC a break. They give us good fights and they are all free.
And at least they have title bouts more often. Not like UFC that makes us weight 10 months for Rampage to fight, and now 9 months for Noreiga. And Elite XC lets their fighters fight elsewhere. (i.e Diaz at DREAM) And they co-promote their events to get the best fights they can.
Not to mention, it keeps the UFC on their toes. Dana’s bossy ways are catching up to him. Why didn’t Andre resign with UFC? Because he was tired of being treated like s**t.
Don’t get me wrong, I love watching the UFC, but I respect all the others too.

I suspect they’re lowballing him on pay. If they’re hurting as badly as it sounds, they may be trying to get good ratings on the cheap.

i like all MMA i just dont really know much of the other guys and i dont know what channels are the others only UFC every Weds on spike channel 168. i dk when the other channels are if u guys could infrom me of those that would be really great!
The bottom line on the Noons Diaz thing is Diaz has lost two other title shots trying to play the game now XC needs to step up and either force the match or strip the Abercrombie wannabe of the belt.

Art of War is supposed to be syndicated this fall so look for it on channels that play “Cheaters” type stuff.Wed on Versus they play a new tapout show 10pm est.Mopnday and tues night they run at least 1 episode of WEC wreckage.They typically have a marathon of wec events on holiday weekends and before a new live event…

As for noons…any of you thinking he’s scared of Nick Diaz need to rewatch the first fight. This kid isn’t scared…it’s a management issue. DBiz may have it correct as well…EliteXC isn’t doing so well so they are trying to get the fight on the cheap.
Bottom line is…Noons is NOT afraid of Diaz… Noons’ management sucks and EliteXC can somehow say that they 100% support 1 fighter and also 100% support another…is that even possible?

Man, this is kinda making me loose respect for Noons. He’s already beaten Diaz so I’m not sure what the hold up is and why he wont sign the contract and agree to the fight. He’s trying to play mind games with Diaz I believe, but he’s starting to make himself look like a punck.

shaw is merely saying that in making this fight happen they believe completely that it could go either way. They have full confidence in both fighters such that either can win on any given day, personally I think Noons is garbage and hope that the old Diaz shows up someday and whoops his a$$.
I read the mmaweekly story featuring Noons and I respect him even less now. He wants the big dollards but he hasn’t done other than a technical upset on Nick. “Diaz will hurt you KJ you were very fortunate the first time…”Nick has played his part all year giving up title fights in Japan for this.
