Report: Brock Lesnar To Fight In November
Posted by Kris Karkoski on Aug 22, 2008 at 3:00 pm ET82 Comments
UFC heavyweight contender Brock Lesnar will likely return to the octagon in November, according to a report from the Pioneer Press.
Lesnar has reportedly been asked by the UFC to participate on an unspecified November fight card against an unknown opponent. The event is likely to be UFC 91 on November 15th in Portland, Oregon and his opponent is expected to be Cheick Kongo.
Lesnar (2-1) dominated Heath Herring at UFC 87 in August to earn a unanimous decision victory, his first win in the UFC.
Kongo (12-4-1) defeated Dan Evensen via first-round knockout on the UFC 87 preliminary card.

Lesnar will beat Kongo. Kongo is too sloppy. However this has good potential to be a slugfest.
I’ll take lesnar on this one…kongo has never really impressed me that much…hes just a big guy with average skills…i bet lesnar takes him down with ease…
Oh can’t wait to see this fight happen(If it does.) Brock should have no problem getting Kongo to the ground, i just hope he took some BJJ classes so he can finish him.
Hell Brock should test out that right hand on Kongo, but if he does he shouldn’t get cocky or it could be lights out for Brock. Kongo’s a beast, but i think Brock could put a whoopin on him. Please MMA Gods Let this fight happen!!!!
oooooh this is looking good…i like kongo for some odd reason…and i am also a brock fan…
but i have to lean towards brock..i think he will win this one. i am going to go out on a limb and say he will SUBMIT kongo!!!!!
Kongo has zero ground game.. Lesnar wins in a simmilar fashion as he did against Herring, but I’d really like to see Brock learn what to do with a person besides take their back or side and let them lay in a fetal position. Herring was beat bad but it was borring after R1, Lesnar needs to have a chat with Randy about controlling opponents once you get the takedown.
Oh yes, a great striker with poor to moderate ground skills and a meat head, showboating wrestler are gonna tangle.
Kongo’s poor sprawl and awfule ground game is going to be his demise because Brock “Can you hear me now” Lesnar is going to take him down and lay on him for 15 straight minutes.
Thank goodness Lesnar has come to MMA and more specifically the UFC because this sport needed someone as amazing as he is. He more or less is god’s gift to UFC. I think he is totally unstoppable and Fedor had better stay in Affliction because if he does come over to UFC he would get stomped by Lesnar. Nobody can beat Lesnar in the ring or with his personality, I mean this man will single handily push MMA past baseball, and football as the most watched sport in America and soon he will push it past soccer as the most watched sport in the world. I think that he will beat everyone in the UFC basically at the same time. You can put Nogeria and Couture and Fedor in the cage at the same time against Lesnar and he would still dominate. The only person in the world that could beat Lesnar is probably Anderson Silva.
I have to agree with Cole on this. I have never thought Kongo was all he has been cracked up to be. He has always had a suspect ground game. Brock is going to crush him, and I’m not a Brock fan.
TJ, that’s an impressive post. Funny.
Yeah I’m a Kongo fan too (seriously… that guy is huge and friggin ripped… you gotta love that) but I don’t see him getting this W. With Lesnar’s speed and power I’m not sure who would be able to stop his take-downs and Kongo certainly won’t do much on the ground.
I just hope Lesnar learns some BJJ to use dominant positions better than he did against Herring or this could be a booooring fight.
Lesnar can’t be beaten? I’d run that comment by Frank Mir first…
Looks like Kongo will not be receiving a “tootle shot”, he’ll be getting raped; cheers!
@Erizzle
Not sure if you’re referring to my comment but I said I didn’t think anyone could stop his take-downs… I didn’t say no one could beat him.
anyone see Mir beating nog by submission then brock woopin kongo and then brock getting a title shot at Mir for his rematch…almost sounds like they set it up like that…that would be a money maker right there
BROCK “CLOVER FIELD” LESNAR WILL EMERGE IN GLORIOUS VICTORY ONCE AGAN @ UFC 91. EXPECT THE BEAST TO SUPRISE YOU WITH HIS SHOOTS AND TAKE DOWNS. OH WAIT? THAT”S ALL HE DOES! BUT WHO CARES, KONGOS SLOPINESS AND LACK OF TAKE DOWN DEFENSE WILL PROVE TO BE HIS DEMISE.
brock will definitely beat knogo, but a title match might be a year or two down the line. can’t wait for this one!
As cool as this fight will be, I really wanna see Brock get a more competitive matchup…him fighting a kickboxer with no takedown defense doesn’t interest me. I think his next fight should be with Cain Velasquez…now thats a good matchup and a fight that will prove which one of them is truly the future of the HWs
esopterodactyl-
dude, i agree!
Fiveouncesofpain.com’s Sam Caplan breaks down the UFC Heavyweight Rankings in an article at CBS Sports, and when you really take a look at the UFC Heavyweight division, Brock Lesnar really isn’t that far away from a shot at the UFC Heavyweight title.
1. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
2. Fabricio Werdum
3. Gabriel Gonzaga
4. Frank Mir
5. Brock Lesnar
6. Heath Herring
7. Cheick Kongo
8. Cain Velasquez
9. Shane Carwin
10. Antoni Hardonk
I would also like to see him fight carwin. That would be a sick slugfest. Two 260 pounders throwing bombs.
@TJ:::::: Frank Mir didn’t he win against Lesnar?
I will take Lesnar in this one just watch out for Kongo’s knees while going for the takedowns.. If Lesnar wins I think a interesting match up for him would be GG
I thought Kongo said he wanted a “Titel” shot ?
So obviously this is the main event and Joe Daddy vs Ken Flo will be the so called “Co-main event”.
I can’t for one second see anything but a UD or a G&P for Brock.
I like Kongo (that French accent is awesome far better than GSP’s) and find him likable but as some have said i don’t think he has the tools to compete for a “Titel shot” .
As weak as the heavyweight division is, if the stars align and kongo wins, he just might get a “titel” shot.( WOLF- good one by the way )
I can’t wait for tickets to go on sale for this, I will be there. Lesner/Kongo and KenFlo/Stevenson, looking to be a good card.

“Yes Mr Kongo…This is Mr Jones with your insurance provider. We regret to inform you that your medical coverage policy is canceled effective today…’
From what I hear Brock has a new submission in the works. He’ll sit in Kongo’s head and clench his ass cheeks and crush Cheick’s brain. It’ll be the perfect WWE meets UFC moment.

Kongo: “You know, I try to never underestimate any of my opponents but there’s really nothing that worries me too much with Brock Lesnar.”
Sigh, here we go again. He might start to worry a little when he ends up on his back and it starts raining lunch boxes.
JVS
top 3 HW IMP
~1.GONZAGA~2.NOGUEIRA~3.MIR~
ya gonzaga lose to become champ but the person he lost to was couture and he is very good i dont think gonzaga could dominate noqueira or mir depending n how mir does but i think gonzaga could beat both of them
even lesnar could become a champ matter how he does he seems like he could end up being very good.
Gonzaga’s in your top 3? Dude he totaly showed his true colors against Randy and against verdum. He’s g@y. BUt like you said, in your opinion so i can respect that. My top 3 are noguera, mir and uuummmm dude that division blows so hard i can’t think of a third.
it may be jumping the gun since he hasn’t really fought a big name yet, but cain velazquez might be a beast. i could see him bein a tough matchup for lesnar just cuz he’s a big dude that know’s what he’s doin on the ground so he might not just sit there praying for the round to end like herring did and like kongo’s gonna do. for that same reason, i could see gonzoga bein a tough fight for brock. and noguera. and mir/mazzagatti. did anyone notice that maz wasn’t at the last event? wonder if that was part of lesnars demands, lol.
Yea it seems as if they are spoon feeding Brock now.. The UFC knows now what his strength is and are matching him up with someone who’s known and “talented” but hoping people will overlook the fact that he is horrible at defending what Brock is good at..
Yeah. I know Brock is physically a freak but I won’t be able to truly believe in him MMA wise until he has a strong fight against someone like Cain or Gonzaga…maybe even Werdum.
First of all, let me say this: There is no way on earth that Kongo’s ground game will not be vastly improved before he gets in that Octagon with Lesnar. Second, Kongo is too strong and athletic for Lesnar to just lay on for 15 minutes like he did Herring. Sure, Kongo won’t be winning any BJJ tournaments any time soon but will Brock? No, sure his wrestling is awesome but his BJJ sucks just as bad as Kongo’s. I will take Kongo via surprising TKO.
I hope you’re right Henry.. I’m not a Lesnar fan at all.. I’m not knocking his desire or freak athletic ability.. the guy just rubs me the wrong way for some reason..
But based on past kongo fights its hard to see him winning this when it seems obvious brock will swing big.. and when that doesn’t work he’ll take kongo down at will for 15 mins
of course he lost randy is freakishly good he beat hiim when he is like 44 years old but since randy is not gonna be in ufc anymore i think he could be champ hopfully if he earnes his chance back up.
Kongo will get hurt…
“Do you see me now?” Well, Kongo, do you?
Does Kongo speak English?
I’d like to see Lesnar vs Gonzaga. but only because I think it’d show if he’s really worked up BJJ defence. Gonzaga is a gass out, and he sucks. He got lucky against Cro Cop (who has lost it. he’s a nobody now) but seriuosly Gonzaga sucks. But he is big and strong and has a good BJJ game so it’d be a good test for Lesnar.
In a rematch Mir loses to lesnar 9 outta 10 times. He got lucky Mazzagati stopped the fight from 1 punch to the back of the head and landed that leg lock.
I think Lesnar will win the gold only because of his wrestling and his strength and speed. He is still super 1 dementional of coarse but he’s a freak of nature beast and that will be hard to deal with. He’s a silver back gorilla pretty much. He’s going to club you with his gigantic hands. I just hope he gains some respect and learns about being humble like a real martial artist.
Kongo has the skills of Hearing, but is a lot stronger. I think this will be a slugfest, and Kongo will win.
I hope after the fight, Kongo gets up in Lesnar and Sabel’s face, WWE style. Like Brock did to Hearing.
Brandon, Mir can take a beating. He’d beat Lesnar 9 out of 10 times.
GONZAGA HATERS!!!!!!!
I am a huge Crocop fan but please explain to me how Gonzaga got lucky in that fight??
He dominated the first round, pounded the snot out of Mirko after a nice take down, and then defeated him with his own trademark move….
Where was the luck in that?
As far as Lensar goes, Mir showed how green he is at this sport of MMA. UFC is feeding him opponents with no take down defence, no jiuitsu and no real ground game at all, so he keeps winning and is worth the 200k a fight they are paying him.
I personally don’t see him winning any fights against the Nogs, Werdums or Gonzagas of the UFC. And whoever the poster was that said Brock would stomp Fedor…. my god, go back to watching WWF bra and panty matches because you clearly know nothing about MMA. lol.
cro cop + elbows = average fighter……
cro cop – elbows = ufc hw champ
also if mir and lesnar fight again lesnar takes it …mir really is overrated and doesnt even come close to deserving a title shot yet…he should of had to beat fabricio werbum first who is the actuall #1 contender he beat legitamite opponents unlike mir who wins against a not really that good antoni hardonk and a win over a guy in his second fight ever and he gets a title shot…wow i really dont like the ufc sometimes for that reason they just want mir to become champion so they can market him and make money so they give him a shot after two not very impressive wins….i dont think dana and really wants Big Nog in the ufc..he wants poster boy frank mir to be champ so he can roll in his dough …..but besides that i love the ufc and dana white
seems like a lot of debate and i dunno why. regardless of whoever would win…. brock, kongo, mir, gonzaga….. it doesn’t matter cuz they’re all 2nd to kimbo! hahahahaha
So your telling me after your 3rd MMA fight and you beat a guy like Herring who’s foughten everybody with huge credetials you wouldn’t be a little excited too. Herring could of been calling Brock a p*ssy for all we know and if you saw Brock in his post interviews he was respectful and calm.
Gunslinger, buddy, what are you talking about? That win over Brock wasn’t impressive after he took a beating then came back and won. Mir was a former champ and tore apart all of his opponents. Not to mention he broke Tim Sylvia’s arm when everyone thought he was god. Then Mir decided to crash his bike and nearly killed himself and he was fighting hurt all the time after that, but hes back in full shape.
Mir won that fight because of a beautiful leg sweep that turned into a leg lock/knee bar….. He tought Lesnar a good lesson that pure strenght and bulling people around doesn’t gurantee a victory in the octagon…
And I also believe that BigNog os going to beat Mir (Mir isn’t the same since the accident) because Big Nog is just an all around better fighter, if Lesnar gets to Nog Lesnar will lose imo
im not saying it wasnt a beautiful knee bar because it was……the point im making is that mir doesnt deserve a title shot hardock and lesnar dont give you a title shot in the hw division……it was supposed to be mir vs justin mccully a while back but the ufc where afraid that mir could get upset and he would be back at the bottom….the only reason mir is getting a shot is because ufc wants more money…becuase mir should have to fight werdum first we all know he doesnt deserve a title shot………the thing i hate the most is that there are people alll the time saying bj doesnt deserve a shot at gsp…but they dont even make a squeak about mir not deserving a shot…i know nog will whoop mir but still i dont like werdum being put in the corner….nobody puts werdum in the corner…..!
also B free,
brock didnt really give mir a beating those little rabbit punches did nothing
sorry one more thing,
if mir cant handle lesnar’s boxing what does the ufc think Bog Nog is gonna do to him….Big Nog by tko
ya NOG is probaly gonna win because i think that the crash he isnt the same anymore if that didnt happen he maybe could beat NOG
2girls2cups,
all those guy would kill kibmbo!!
and no one will find that out unless they finally disapoint the crowd by putting him against someone who is actually good so he loses because he never fought some who was good.
Gonzaga got lucky because Mirco never took any fight in the UFC seriously. Cro Cop admitted that after the Gonzaga fight that he had trained zero ground for that fight, and he never trained in a cage either. Cro Cop thought he would just steam roll everyone in the UFC and didn’t put in a half effort of training. Gonzaga was lucky to not fight a motivated Cro Cop, the one that gave Fedor a run for his money.
Mir is getting WAY over hyped because of his win over Lesnar. What I think is great is that when Mir beat Lesnar it was a huge accomplishment. Dana said that with Mir’s win over a guy like lesnar it puts him into direct title contention because everyone knows who lesnar is. But when Lesnar beats a guy like Herring while being a huge step forward it’s not as big as Mir beating Lesnar. and that’s crap seeing how Lesnar had 1 fight when Mir beat him
Anyhow the main point is Lesnar will beat Kongo but I want to see him learn what to do with people that he takes down. He shouldn’t be afraid of hammer fisting people because of the Mir fight, even if he gets stood up for illegal punches it’s Kongo, he’ll take him down again.
Im ****ing excited about de Kongo – Lesnar fight.
I don’t think Lesnar will beat Kongo like he did with Herring because Kongo will probably bring a strategie to avoid that.
The perfect end for this fight would be Kongo destroying Lesnar with a knee when he’ll try his “Goldberg’s Spear”.
Gunslinger
Did you see Mir’s face after the Brock fight it was all bruised up and a rabbit punch from Brock is a full swing for some fighters. Mir also has a very underrated standup and i think his ground game is just as good as Big Nogs. The only knock i got about Nog(and BJ) is that they only fight twice a year, i want to see the champs at least three times a year. Verduum will get his shot unless he gets addicted to crack or brazilian hookers, he should take on Cain Valaquez(spelling meh) while were waiting for Mir and Nog go at it
brandon gonzaga didnt get lucky he raped cro cop ….cro cop just likes to make excuses when he loses…..and before gonzaga lost to randy everyone was hyping him as the next big thing and tons of people were saying he could beat fedor…and i still think gonzaga would be a big threat to fedor he has a great ground game and a great stand up game ……the werdum fight he still didnt have his head clear from the randy beating and now that his head is clear i see gonzaga getting close to the title and eventually a werdum/gonzaga 2 for the title or a gonzaga/big nog fight for the title….cause in werdums contract it says if he wins his next fight he gets a title shot so when the ultimate fighter 8 is over its werdum vs big nog for the title because we all know that mir aint gonna beat him
b free its not big nog’s choice to fight twice a year its the ufc’s and thats what ive always said…the one thing i hate about the ultimate fighter is that its always champion vs challenger and it holds up the titles so they can only be defended twice or less a year….take rampoage for example if he would have not had the ultimate fighter and would have been able to fight agaian and not be inactive for a year before he fought forrest he would have knocked him out in rnd 1…..but because rampage was inactive for a year rampage was on the wrong side of a bad judges decsion………..but anyways mir will get destroyed and his ground game is not as good as big nog’s and his stand up is horrible compared to big nog’s boxing skills!
Well Gun, it is because of TUF that Rampage only defended twice, and why we have (or I have) been waiting to see Big Nog fight again yet TUF needs “coaches” right? Well that’s why I believe that real coaches should coach the TUF fighters not the UFC champions, YZ and I had the conversation awhile about it and I said on TUF 9 they should have like Bob Cook and Greg Jackson do the coaching and that imo would free up the champions to defend their titles hey just a thought o and I would like to see werdum and GG 2 as well
mir via submit round 1
then even though i like mir i hope gonzaga comes up and ko kicks him down for the NEW UFC HW CHAMPION OF THE WORLD GABRIEL GONZAGA!!!!!!!!!
i hope
NO ONE WIll STOP LESNAR WHEN AGAiN he fights mir again i mean i like mir but he will get destroyed
ya probaly next time he’ll be for careful of the leglock/kneebar and besides it was his first ufc fight not that i dont like mir infact im glad he won its just brocks just to good for that.
IMO when brock get more experienced he probaly end up champ.
I hope Brock can bring forth the creation of a SuperHVWT division as men like him need a class by themselves.
Gunslinger
Yeah its the UFC’s fault for getting Nog and Mir for the coaches for TUF and also it did seemed like Rampage didn’t enjoy coaching at all and wanted to fight right away. Plus, a bunch of monkeys with down syndrome could judge better than the UFC’s judges.
BUT we could also debate who’s gonna win between Mir and Nog forever so ill remember you when Mirs making Big Nog’s face even uglier than it already is!!! HAHA
Dude, come on, the UFC doesn’t even have enough HWs to make for a good division. It would be Brock fighting umm, who Gan Mcgee?
And on another topic, the coaches for TUF should be two of the top contenders. Like, picture Ken-Flo and Daddy coaching(or Chuck again and Rashad). It would promote the top contender fight as a main event, while allowing the titleholder to defend once (or twice) during the taping of the show.
A SuperHeavyweight division will work.
You have NFl Lineman(USA)
Olympic Wrestlers(middle East)
Sumo(Japan)
ProWrestlers(Japan US)
Powerlifters(Europe)
Weightmen from Track and field(Europe and US)
Even ex NBA(shaq’s backup in college)
American’s involved in Competitive eating
All these athletes would love to make the bank of a sideline career in MMA and all of them would be fodder for someone like Lesnar.
SuperHVWT
E. Pele (of old)
Ambriz
Bobish
Lesnar
MCgee
Tim Sylvia
Rowan
Matt Gafarri
Tank Abbott
Kimbo
Lashley
Etc
that would never happen….
no not the SHW i meant what rutdog said
TJ, I want the drugs you’ve been smokin!!!
Fedor won’t beat Lesnar but Anderson Silva will? Come on, I think Brock is a little too much for Silva, If Silva was 260 pounds it might be a fight but come on let’s keep it in the little realm I like to call “Reality”
Lesnar is the future of HWT mma, bottom line. Fast, stong, great wrestler, and he will only get better with experience. Mir really don’t deserve a title shot. What happened to Gonzaga, where has he been, 2 loses in a row and he dissapears.
Brock will try GnP Kongo like no tomorrow
for Brock to get the win, i just hope he just does not lay and pray the hole time
Kongo has to keep the fight on the feet, for him to win.
I say Brock will win, but i would like to see Kongo win by TKO.
Kongo lost to Yvel…Brock will kill him…
brock to KO kongo!
I’m a Brock fan but be serious. He’s had 3 fights and lost to Mir. Fedor’s beat eveyone he’s faced in 29 fights except for a cut stoppage loss years ago. He tapped Tim Sylvia out in 30 seconds. Right now Fedor is unbeatable when it comes to heavyweights.
I SEE BROCK BEING A CHAMP IN A YEAR OR TWO…
i agree.
Brock’s the man in the UFC HW
3 years mat time plus staying healthy and Brock will personally negotiate all treaties with Russia.Fedor get you will together.
brock isnt gonna win the belt any time soon! there is no way he can beat nog! NO WAY
kev,
I am a fan of Minotauro too but no way he holds onto the belt for more than a year.He has taken too much damage. My guess Mir-Couture/Fedor-Brock
isaw Lesnar’s boxing and it impressed me.
in spite of being so big, he got speed!
what he hasn’t got is endurance.
anyone able to escape his takedowns will be able to dance with him until he gasses.
but he’s so big, how do u stop from getting down with him?
we need another guy as heavy as him. his reach is great too.
i cant wait for him & kongo!!!!
I HEARD HE MIGHT BE FIGHTING RANDY COUTURE… BELIEVE IT OR NOT… I THINK I SAW IT ON MMABAY.COM
KOuch-
“Does Kongo speak english?”
Nearly all frenchmen can speak english, although many are too arrogant to use it (for fear of embarrassing themselves I assume).
