Antonio Silva, Edwin Dewees Test Positive For Steroids
The California State Athletic Commission on Thursday announced that EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva and Affliction middleweight Edwin Dewees have tested positive for steroids.
Both fighters have been suspended by the CSAC for one year and were fined $2,500 for the failed tests.
Silva, who defeated Justin Eilers via second-round TKO for the newly-created EliteXC heavyweight title at “EliteXC: Unfinished Business” on July 26th, tested positive for the anabolic steroid boldenone. He has been suspended until July 26th, 2009 and is also expected to be stripped of the EliteXC heavyweight title.
Dewees, who was defeated via first-round TKO by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at “Affliction: Banned” on July 19th, has tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone. He has been suspended until July 19th, 2009.
Both Silva and Dewees can file an appeal with the CSAC.

If Pro Elite had any integrity they would strip of the belt.

if you listen closely, you can prolly hear kimbo thanking god for this one. now he can have a crack at the title without having to fight a good opponent. my money is on elite putting the belt on the line between kimbo and some nobody so they can keep pumpin him up.

it makes no sense to me any fighter can walk into the cage/ring after juicing, and walk out expecting it wont show up on the test… you know its illegal and there looking for it, so what the hell do they think will happen??theyll get lucky and not get tested or what, maybe they have crazy trainers that jsut say drink this haha

Who cares what Dana thought about Sherk. He did the right thing and stripped him of the belt, the same should be done to Silva.
It maybe a blessing in disguise for Elite XC. You have Rogers Kimbo for the title at the Next CBS show and maybe you can get some veiwers this time around. That with Noons Diaz and you have the best card you could put together.
ya im a fan of sherk i know he took steriods thats the only thing i dont like sherk and i thought dana thought he toke steriods thats y he got banned but he got an instint rematch so ya dana probaly pulled some strings for sherk even though sherk got killed.

Tspence, I’m sure the fighters who take steroids, stop taking them 4-6 months earlier. Their trainer assures them it’ll be out of their system. But the testing has gotten better.

Rogers will mess Kimbo up and show him what a real MMA fighter is about.
I don’t know if Kimbo will win or not. But I’m sure as hell not gonna bash him. I only bash people I know I could whoop if occasion ever called for it. I could not whoop Kimbo. In fact, I believe he would probably kill me.

Kimbo shouldn’t be facing main competition. He was a street fighter with absolutely no mma training. As a rookie, he should be facing rookies, which he is doing. And he’s winning. He’s doing exactly what you’re supposed to do. I would love to see him face bobby lashley. He’s as well an mma rookie, however I don’t think he’s gonna take too long before he’ll pick it up. I believe Lashley would kill Kimbo. I don’t know who would win between Lesnar and Lashley. I’m sure that fight has happened before… but the mma version would be so much more intense.
Rule breaking is a tough one. If you’re not cheating, you don’t want to win bad enough. Then again, cheating is dishonest and apparently wrong. It’s a rules violation in any case and they should be in big trouble for this. MMA is still in a crucial part of it’s growth and there is no room for roid junkies.
Nandrolone can stay in your system for up to a year! It’s crazy guys think they can get away with taking it. BTW, Boldenone and especially nandrolone are the best steroids to take to help recover from an injury.
After seeing how hard the top MMA guys train, I have no idea how they recover without ‘roids.

the roids are gettin outta hand quick. i don’t know when testing is done, but they should put some kind of clause in these fighters contracts that allow them to test the fighters while they’re in training for the fight. seems to me that would be more of a deterrent for fighters taking steroids. thoughts?
Let’s face it…any time an event involves any sort of feat of strength, some people will attempt to gain an advantage through any means possible.
STOPPING steroids completely will never happen at any level of sport. Having a set policy and always applying it evenly (I am personally in favor of a 3-6 month first, 1 year second, lifetime ban third system) is the only way to maintain legitimacy while still being realistic that people are going to do it.
I can understand DeWees…but Silva? What the heck was he thinking? I agree with DBiz…we need some serious suspensions going on.
EliteXC is already struggling and this is really going to hurt them. Big Foot is a really fast heavyweight and they needed to keep him fighting. Sheesh…

UFCfan, don’t get me wrong I enjoy the enthusiasm that u often bring to you comments/arguments…. Kimbo has not faced the “toughest guys” and definately not UFC caliber opponents, but Tank Abbott is anything but a rookie, same goes with Thompson, now Tank is “washed up” and Thompson is renowned for having little in the gas tank as well as a suspect chin, rookies they are not

Kimbo is badass. His stand up is excellent and he has as good of or better KO power than Chuck Liddell. He is still undefeated and the future Elite XC HW champion………

I would love to see Kimbo fight K-1 and sprinkle in the MMA fights…or just wrestle in Japan until the MMA money is right and the training is down. i don’t think the cash will last long enough to get the title fight.Unfortunately I believe they will use a Kimbo PPV to try and dig out of red ink.Sean Gannon is about to be a very rich man.
The problem with Kimbo and Brock is how old they are when they started MMA. If Kimbo was 24 and fighting like he is now there would be able to do stuff like that, but he’s like 30 something. So I think you just gotta put him against Rogers for the belt and see what happens already. Cause the window is closing on Kimbo (and possibly Elite xc itself) you need to start cashing in on him. No one takes the XC belt seriously anyway, atleast the casual fan may respect it and start paying attention.

If I was running Xc I would look right at my list of fighters and try to set up three mega fights for the next 10 months.. (The problem is there aren’t any). Then having seen that I would try to set up one to cut the debt load down fast. Give Gannon 20 million for one fight with Kimbo( You can’t risk the eventual ass kicking Kimbo will get and you get to make Kimbo the good guy and you get to play the race card…A+B+C=Bank) and just market the heck out of it and pray it works…
