Jake Shields vs. Paul Daley Added To October 4th EliteXC-CBS Event
EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields will defend his title against Paul Daley on October 4th at the next rendition of EliteXC-CBS Saturday Night Fights.
MMAFrenzy.com (www.mmafrenzy.com) has confirmed with Daley’s manager that both fighters have verbally agreed to the match up.
Jake Shields, one of the better welterweights in mixed martial arts who does not compete under the UFC banner, earned the vacant crown by quickly dispatching Nick Thompson at EliteXC “Unfinished Business” this past July. Shields (21-4) holds notable wins over Hayato Sakurai, Dave Menne, Yushin Okami, Carlos Condit, Renato Verissimo and Mike Pyle.
English-native Paul “Semtex” Daley (18-6-2) is a an extremely dangerous striker who has ended 13 of his fights via knockout. A former Cage Rage champion, Daley oddly announced his retirement earlier this year only to come back four months later where he knocked out Bojan Kosednar at a Cage Warriors event. Daley also holds notable wins over Sam Morgan, Duane Ludwing, Dave Strasser and Jess Liaudin.

Daley is a legit threat here. Shields’ focus is somewhere else(GSP). He better watch himself or you could have a major upset.
timcat i dont know if KOuch will agree with that statement you just made…i will wait and see
LOL…It’s laughable to think Shields even thinks about GSP other than to spout some propaganda post win.
While Daley is a decent fighter I’m still thinking Shields will take him down within 3 rounds.
This will be fight of the night IMO
Your right timcat Daley could cause an upset here.
I’ll be intrested to know what odds the bookies will be offering for Daley.
Sheilds doesn’t want to stand with Daley, and nobody wants to go to the ground with Sheilds (well nobody in EliteXC) hopefully this will be an entertaining fight, I will pick Sheilds by sub in rd 4 (triangle)
Shields by complete ass whoopin’. People still do not understand the powerful GOD that Shields is. If he loses, I’ll admit I’m wrong but he won’t lose. Everyone said the same thing about Shield’s last match with the Goat. The Goat was being hyped up for his 13 fight win streak leading up to Shields which is without question a great success for the Goat. However, he got dominated in about 1:30 of rd. 1 if I recall correctly. Shields is the most underrated WW in MMA.
There’s still plenty of room on the Shields bandwagon……Just remember I’m driving!
KOuch, Sheilds is awesome on the ground forsure, I was suprised not that he won v GOAT (sick neck beard too) but how fast he sub’d him and how he modified the choke and utilzed the fence and his own body to do so, most woundnt think of rolling that way into a choke that they were attempting, it was AWESOME
FR,
What I have heard from guys who have practiced/trained with Jake is that he is excellent at using his enviorment around him in unique ways……pretty much exactly what you observed. I also “heard” he is incredibly strong and it feels like grappling against a 300lbs man when in the clinch against the cage. Everything I have seen of Shields has impressed and wowed me. Everything I have heard just makes the guy that much better in my eyes. I know it’s bias in a way……he’d still contend in the UFC.
KOuch,
i do believe that shields will beat daley in rnd 1 probably by guillotine at 1:32
…though it pains me to say it i will join the band wagon on one condition you join “The Bully” band wagon when ufc 90 rolls around
KOuch, its ok to be bias when u have insight of a specific fighter, the things is that when a fighter can utilize their surroundings such as the cage (in a proper way)it is great to watch, I do like Sheilds and think that unfortunately(in a way) he fights for EliteXC, just think of the battles he could have if he was in one of the top three promotions (UFC,WEC,DREAM)rightnow… Thx
Caesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu rocks…
KOuch,
I like Shields alot,I was just saying that if he doesn’t stop thinking about the fight at hand, he could be ko’ed big time. His ground game is second to none, nobody even close in Elite XC.
If he wants GSP so bad get out of the worst company in mma and come to the big leagues, the UFC! He better be careful what he wishes for. George is on another level!
Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Rocks! and my spelling does not…
Jake Shields 1 dimentional. If he don’t take Paul down to the ground theres no way Shields can trade with semtex. On foot it’s K.O & new welterweight champ. Paul will make history and be the first Brit to hold this belt mark my words. And just know that 18-6-2 is MMA. It excludes Thai boxing/kickboxing wins.
That is kind of scary but I still have Shields…
