Kenny Florian vs. Joe Stevenson Slated For UFC 91 In November
Lightweight contenders Kenny Florian and Joe Stevenson will square off at UFC 91 in November, according to MMA Weekly.
Florian (10-3) was last in action at UFC 87 earlier this month where he topped Roger Huerta via unanimous decision. He has won five-straight UFC bouts over Dokonjonosuke Mishima, Alvin Robinson, Din Thomas, Joe Lauzon, and Huerta.
Stevenson (29-8) won four-straight UFC fights over Yves Edwards, Dokonjonosuke Mishima, Melvin Guillard, and Kurt Pellegrino to earn a bout against BJ Penn for the vacant UFC lightweight championship. Penn defeated Stevenson via second-round submission in the January bout but Stevenson rebounded with a second-round submission of Gleison Tibau at UFC 86 in July.
UFC 91, which has not yet been officially announced by the promotion, will reportedly take place on November 15th in Portland, Oregon.

hell of a fight i like both fighters, cant wait for this to go off, perhaps this is the “#1 contender”, but give it up to KenFlo he says he wants to fight the best, and he is standing by that statement

I think penn is a disrespectful turd!!! he should honor the fight with kenny then worry about fighting gsp. would i like to see penn vs gsp yes, do he deserve it…NO!!! he didnt even beat highly ranked fighters to even get @ gsp. i hope gsp turns the fight down and rest, he needs it.
also joey boy should be fighting ken flo, right now. if he wins that should be a title shot and he hasnt even proven hisself to get a title shot, this is bull****, all becaue of ****ing penn

I agree that bj’s a punk for leaving the no. 1 contender, florian ( like it or not he is), hanging. Don’t much care for joe daddy, but either way it’s going to be alright. Dude the lw, mw and hw division blow a$$.

Ken Flo was impresive over Lil Tito but did’nt show me anything that would trouble BJ.
Fingers crossed BJ moves up permantly to WW and Griffin & Ken Flo fight for the vacated title early next year.
i don’t think it’s a big deal for florian to wait a little while longer. obviously, he’s ok with fighting again before a title shot when he could’ve just said “no, i’ll wait for bj and gsp to fight”. it’s hard not to like kenflo cause he’s such a smart fighter, he’s a good fighter, and he doesn’t look for the easy way out. those fighters really deserve respect.

are u going to start the BJ v GSP argument again? if so fun times…. or the GSP needs rest because he fought 4 times in 365 day period, not in a calendar year.. if soo awesome, or just say hey now that KenFlo is going to fight Joe clearly the GSP v BJ “superfight” is going to happen and sit back and enjoy the great fights as they come, rather then being concerned if BJ deserves the “shot” or not…. just my opionion and iam not trying to offend you or anyone

This is a great fight, but I don’t think it is a smart move for Florian. If he loses, he needlessly puts himself out of title contention. I respect Kenny for taking this fight, I honestly would have rather seen Joe Daddy fight the winner of Griffin/Sherk for the #2 contender spot and KenFlo fight BJ for the title, whenever the Prodigy can finally get around to it.
i don’t see anyone in the LW division beating bj for a long, long time. the only one i think that has a shot is kenflo (and i think it’s a long shot) just because he might be the only one to come up with a good enough gameplan and execute it the way he did against huerta. i guess we’ll see.

Does this mean the GSP/BJ fight is gonna happen in Dec? If Dana wants it to happen he needs to make it a superfight with no titles on the line. That’s the only way it is fair to GSP.
The UFC needs more guys like KenFlo……the guy is tough as nails, brings his A-game every fight, will fight anybody at anytime, and has a good head on his shoulders. IF you watch him fight, he might be one of the meanest guys in the UFC…he literally wants to destroy people!

I think this is a great fight for Kenny to see how he would handle fighting Penn. If Joe (who has zero standup) gives Kenny a hard time in the standup department, then Kenny can see where he lies against Penn. I think Kenny could put a game plan together to beat just about anyone in the LW division including Penn. I do think this fight should be pretty competative, but Kenny should win hands down standing. And their BJJ is probably neutralized. I see Joe doing his ussual wreslting/guilotine atempts, should be good!
anyone else read that the BJ v GSP “superfight” might happen in Montreal on Dec 5th (which is a Friday fyi) i think i saw it on B E, regardless of the GSP needs rest argument, or GSP shouldnt have to defend his title, or if its fair to GSP arguments, i was just wondering if someone else read that or even better has an update on that?

I hope BJ get beat down by GSP for putting his title defense off. Kenflo has been a damn good employee by waiting. If he ever gets his shot and wins, who will he fight? He’s beating all the top contenders on the way!
Who cares if the matchup between GSP and BJ is for the title or not. If you are the champ you should be willing to fight anyone at anytime. If the powers that be decide it’s for the title so be it. I mean seriously if BJ beats GSP you can’t tell me you wouldn’t feel like GSP’s title was tainted.
On a lighter note. Ken-Flo vs Joe Daddy is an awesome match up. Can’t wait to see this 2 go at it.
i see why it’s debateable (sp?) but i dunno why everyone’s hatin on BJ vs GSP 2. look at the the history, beat hughes the first time to get the belt, he lost a controversial decision to GSP the first time, gassed against hughes the 2nd time but has since come back more focused and won every fight at 155 including two bouts against guys that were good at 170 in sherk and joe daddy. In addition, who’s he cutting in front of for that shot? kos…recently lost to gsp. serra… recently lost to gsp. hughes… recently lost to gsp twice. fitch…. just lost. The only person I can see having anythin to complain about would be the winner of diego/alves. even then, i’d say it’s a matter of opinion and the ufc/ joel silva has an argument on behalf of bj vs gsp 2.
I agree with FR702. There are a lot of guys that post hear that don’t discuss anything and just make random ludacris statements. No one said Florian Huerta was for the #1 spot. And I still don’t feel florian is head and shoulders above everyone else. Tyson Griffin has been on a huge win streak and with a win over sherk (something Kenflo couldn’t get) should be considered a #1 contender.
As far as Penn GSP and for 80th time in a different thread. Randy got a shot after 2 losses at a lighter weight, Dan Henderson lost to Rampage then went down to fight Anderson for the belt. GSP had a narrow win over BJ the 1st time. And had B not moved down for TUF I know he would have gotten a rematch much sooner than now. Hell if Sherk doesn’t get stripped of the belt, Bj probably moves back up to welterweight and fights GSP. But Dana had no real contenders at the weight and needed a name to bolster the division. So yes BJ deserves a shot at the title.
on a seperate note, respect to kenny for taking the fight without throwing a **** fit about how he should get a title shot. That guys awesome and it makes you realize who loves the sport and who loves themself.
Yea I hate Kenny Florian but I gotta give it to him…hes a good fighter and deserves a title shot…but man I would love to see him get the sh*t beat out of him…he reminds me too much of ben stiller…I think thats why I wanna punch him in his face..

nice breakdown, it seems everyone is sooo protective over GSP (who im a fan of) and just hatin on BJ when just a few months ago i would assume most were rooting for BJ to destroy Sherk, i want to see this fight and yes i do pick BJ to win but i completely can see GSP winning as well… so as MMA fans cant we all just want to see the best fight the best or do we just want to mis~matches so our favorite Champions never lose their belts?? im all for great fights instant classics if you will…..

I think alot of people are counting out Big Daddy on this one. He looked pretty good on his feet in the BJ fight in the second round where blood was gushing down his face and he knocked down Melvin Guillard too. Joe is a better submission fighter than Sherk and joe will cause big problems for Kenny. Still should be a pretty good fight though, but im giving joe the edge strictly because I hate Kenny’s nickname, KenFlo
I like this matchup much more than Roger Florian. Joe is a more accurate striker and a better wrestler. Sherk proved a good wrestler is something that bothers Kenny. I like Joe by unanamous desicion. Its funny how many people (including myself dislike Kenny) and for no other reason than, there something about him that rubs people the wrong way.

I agree, it seems like everyone was ready to blow Penn a few months ago and now that he wants rematch with GSP everyone’s singin a different tune. well maybe not everyone, but alot more than I would expect. bottom line is it’ll be a great fight to watch, whether or not its a title fight i don’t really care xept fot the fact that a title would mean 5 rounds and therefore give us the possibility of a longer and better fight.
on a side note, i’ve heard that kenny was offerred the chance to sit out or take an easy fight until he could fight bj and he chose to fight someone good. so quit blaming bj for the state of affairs and just realize that kenny’s got some huge brass balls for takin a fight where he’s got everything to lose and little to win.

After he beats sherk one of his 1st questions to the audience is “who wants to see BJ Penn fight GSP?” so lets stop all that BJ is scared of Florian talk.

Im gonna say that this fight is dumb as hell. Why the hell should stevenson get a shot at kenny florian who is the number one contender? Stevenson losses to penn then wins one fight against a guy who was coming off a loss and then he gets rewarded? dumb. I mean come on kenny beats arguably the two top lightweights in the division in huerta and lauzon and then gets this. Stevenson/huerta or stevenson/lauzon makes way more sense then this. Kenny should have just waited to fight penn because he deserves his shot. If stevenson wins its BS. Kenny still gonna lose against penn but he at least deserves to get his blood licked off of his face
You all count out Joe “Daddy” too early…I personally think K-Flo will fall to the guillotine. I am waiting to see the Penn-Stevenson rematch after Penn gets his a** beat by GSP in January. I think Penn will be champ for a while, but I’m pulling for Joe the entire way.
