Update: Ruediger Nearly Cleared for K1 Bout

Gabe RuedigerDespite seemingly being denied the fight yesterday it now appears Gabe Ruediger may indeed be fighting in K1 after all. The event on the other hand is still very much in doubt. Here is the most recent report on Ruediger from The Fight Network:

“The Ultimate Fighter 5 contestant Gabe Ruediger has been released from his contract with Zuffa LLC. and has had his “administrative suspension lifted, says Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer, thus clearing the way for Ruediger to compete on June 2’s K-1 “Dynamite card.

In a recent interview I completed with Gabe he had stated he would be appearing very soon in a large organization. Whether this was the bout he was speaking of is still unconfirmed although I have contacted him seeking further details. The report continued in further details on the situation:

…Zuffa [stated] the promotion had “accelerated the terminationâ€? of his contract with the organization and let him go. All participants on the reality TV show are placed on a temporary suspension by the NSAC till the series’ live finale event to alert other state agencies to check in with them on the fighters’ status, but also keep the results of the bouts secret till they air. Ruediger was unceremoniously removed from the TV show during its fifth episode after failing to make weight for a bout with Corey Hill.

FEG called and requested Ruediger’s status with the NSAC last week, hoping to have the much talked about lightweight fill in for Javier Vasquez, who has dropped from the card for undisclosed reasons. A rep from Ruediger’s camp confirmed he’s been approached about the bout and could be ready in time, though negotiations are still forthcoming.

Ruediger would still have to pass a medical examination before being allowed to fight, although that is likely the least of his worries at this point. The event is in serious jeopardy after main event fighter and Brock Lesnar’s opponent Hong Man Choi was denied a fight license for undisclosed medical reason. I am not sure what the overall status of the event is at present but needless to say the situation has reached critical and if some pieces don’t fall into place very soon Elite XC may be alone come June 2nd.
