In terms of a system for notifying users why the comments were deleted, it will be built into the forums which I’m hoping to have done, or at least functional, by early-September.

I do my best to clean up comments when I can and remove only the offending portion so they can still be posted but in some cases I just don’t have the time and am forced to delete some rather than correct them.

A system to let users know why their comments were deleted would be great. I know i’ve had a few deleted and some of them I had no clue why.

As far as T-shirts and other items go it’s definitely something I’ll consider more seriously since there seems to be quite a bit of interest in them.

Also, in regards to the comment crackdown, I think what I wrote made it seem more broad than it truly is. Right now we operate without established commenting rules and everyone is generally fine, however there are some who go beyond what I deem appropriate and that is what I am trying to cut down on.

Banning truly is a last resort and will be used sparsely and with great consideration, however I will be making some changes to ensure the future growth of the site. As we get more traffic and money we draw in more and more blue chip sponsors and this sponsors like to dig into the site and cleaning up the comments, along with continuing to pump out quality content and an effective site design, helps us earn more and continue to grow in the long run.

That said, in the coming month or so I will be laying out an official comment policy that will outline the basic policies of the comment section. This will affect very few people but will allow us to publicly inform everyone of our expectations. Along with the comment policy will be a forum which will allow us to better accommodate off topic conversations and the like. I have no problem whatsoever with off topic conversations and have been known to start a few myself, however they generally clutter up the comments section as they more further and further away from the topic at hand and the forums will be an ideal location for everyone to talk about whatever they choose (again, with some very broad restrictions).

Though we will not initially be requiring registration to comment this will be a likely move in the future as I continue to improve the site.
