Kenny Florian To Fight Again In 2008
Top UFC lightweight contender Kenny Florian, who defeated Roger Huerta in a featured bout at UFC 87 on Saturday to secure his spot atop the list of 155-pound contenders, will fight again in 2008, Florian told MMA Weekly:
“(Penn) made the decision that he wants to fight GSP and I tell you what as a fan I want to see that fight. I think it’s going to be an unbelievable fight, I think it’s great for the sport. Two guys at the top of their games, two champions in the UFC are going to fight which is huge. I don’t want to wait around either, it’s kind of frustrating at the same time. I do want to fight the top guys, B.J. obviously is a legend and when you want to make your mark, that’s what I want to do, I want to have my legacy in this sport as well, so give me a chance. At the same time, it’s a risky move and some people have criticized me for it, but I still want to get another fight in. I want to fight again before the year’s end and I want to fight someone tough.”
Though the timing wouldn’t likely work for a late-2008 fight, possible opponents for Florian’s next bout include the winner of a scheduled late-October bout between former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk and Tyson Griffin, as well as, according to Florian, international lightweight stars Joachim Hansen and Shinya Aoki.

if he were to fight Hansen or Aoki that would be a hell of a battle think of it atop the 155ers you have BJ Penn,KenFlo, then if you were to add Joachim Hansen, and Shinya Aoki wow let alone with all the other talent UFC already has, bad time for Roger to bit%h about money…. that would be phenominal all UFC needs to do is add Gomi and then UFC LW GP i can see it now haha wishful thinking sorry…………..
i’m not to familliar with hansen but i see florian demolishing aoki. i can’t see him matching florians strength at all and florians got the skills to work on the ground. from what i’ve seen, aoki would be better off at 145.

Before I came to post that was the match up I had in my head but I think Griffin has his next match set. I am not a huge fan but as far as rankings go, what about Joe Stevenson?

Since KenFlo wants a fight before BJ, he should also consider, “what if I lose.” He needs to fight but he should be careful in his opponent.
I think to play it safe he should really fight, Clay Guida or Frankie Edgar.
I know he recently lost to Grey M. but I think frank edgar would be a good fight. I really like franky and he has beat some really good fighters. Hes quite a bit more well rounded than Huerta. Not quite a wild. It would be a good technical fight.
Edgar just beat Franca din’t he? My memory is not working so well but I thought he dominated him with wrestling.

Guida could definitely be a risk but it will keep KenFlo on his toes the whole time. It’s probably just like fighting Huerta again only faster/more aggressive with a hair less skill.

griffin is riding a 4 fight win streak. His only loss is to edgar, but that was in feb of 07. edgar just did dominate the non roided up franca. UFC should go get Eddie Alvarez and put him against Kenflo. I think he’d rock Florian, but I’ve thought that about everyone that’s ever faced Kenny, so…..
Have him fight cole miller might not sound fair,but i can’t stand him i would like kenflo to wreck him.
KenFlo v Hansen has brutal fight written all over it but ehh, i think with the current crop of fighters UFC has, Joe Stevenson, Franca Guida are all a huge risk, but perhaps the “sleeper” would be Kurt “batman” Pelligrino (plus they kinda look similar) just putting it out there
I want to see more guys dropping down and moving up. Diego Sanchez moving down would be a perfect way to make a great story. If KenFlo wins, he still goes on to fight for the title and he has avenged his loss to Sanchez. Then Sanchez can be all like, “F that sh!t…F this mother f’er…F THIS!” From there Sanchez can stay a LW and fight 1-2 top guys and get his rematch with Florian. Or Sanchez could move up and Florian could follow….I’m getting too deep into non sense…
i think griffin would beat edgar this time and guida was beating huerta till the last round and knocked him out for like 3 seconds in the second round.but i like KENFLO but i should fight someone good to prvoe he is the number one contender!!
Honestly though i would like to see him redeem himself against sherk.Problem is if he can’t get through sherk it’s quite the set back.But i’ve said it before i think he’s a better fighter now.Traing so much with delagrata.Sorry if i hacked the spelling.

Guida would be a great opponent for Florian the more I think about it. The whole situation works well for everyone.

florian vs penn needs to happen, penn gets a title shot that he didnt deserve, didnt work his way up the ranks and now is going to go fight for welterweight title without working his way up rankings and not defending his title against florian who by far has earned the shot? come on joe silva lets use our head and make florian vs penn

imo it is realitively simple why BJ Penn gets a title shot without beating top WW and that would be a StoryLine…. Financial Benefit… Intriguing Battle…. is that all the justification i need ya pretty much, o and “Superfight” might just be the new end of the year thing for UFC last year they had nemisis UFC 79 Wanderlei v Liddell, GSP v Hughes and that sold pretty well

Yeah I’m making a real effort to clean things up around here. Things were getting a bit out of hand and I’m willing to give people a warning but if they don’t clean up they’re going to be temporarily banned and, once lifted, if they continue to break the rules (which will be written out in the coming weeks) they will be banned from commenting perfectly.
The site is getting bigger and bigger and with that comes more and more comments, which is great. Unfortunately some of those comments are off topic or vulgar and should not and will not be posted.

I see GSP winning the matchup with Penn. I think it’ll be a close fight but I think the natural size advantage is enough for GSP to take it, though if BJ can sprawl and keep St-Pierre from utilizing his wrestling I think it’s pretty much a dead even fight.
As far as Kenny Florian vs. Rich Clementi, while it would be an exciting fight for sure I can’t see it happening, though Huerta vs. Clementi could definitely take place soon as it would be a good step up for Clementi and would be a solid test for Huerta.

while i do disagree with you on the GSP v BJ fight (who the winner will be, and definately could be either of them i just have always been a BJ Penn fan) you had a good point about sprawling, and GSP is quite larger than Penn…… thx for the answer…
Rich would be a wonderful opponent for Huerta more so than KenFlo, you have convinced me also if Rich beats Huerta in his last fight left on his contract what leverage Dana and the Brothers have over Huerta… ahhh the drama of MMA
It truly is a pick em’ but GSP won the first meeting and Penn would be moving up so that’s enough for me to pick St-Pierre but it’s essentially a toss up.
If Huerta wins his next bout and remains in title contention I think he sticks with the UFC but if he loses back-to-back bouts I think it’s likely that he may head elsewhere as other promotions are probably willing to offer him better money than the UFC would with back-to-back losses.
the thing that does concern me about the BJ/GSP fight is BJs “lackluster” performances of recent in WW still picking BJ cant flip~flop if u will
Huerta cannot have two losses in a row with the amount of bs that he talked about ZUFFA/UFC and paying fighters yada yada, Affliction, EliteXC i dont who would make his payday still he has a great amount of talent and if he thought of the “long term” he should stay with UFC thats the best chance of him making the most $$ and would have the fame that he desires imo

You know I love the site…..I spend a little too much time here. In any case, you seem a little up tight lately. The site is getting bigger and that is great. Do you really have to kill the fun though? Some of us who comment here daily have become friendly enough to have inside jokes and F with each other. Today, UFCfan revived an press release where we began talking about MMA match ups that will never happen….humorus, ridiculous, fun and MMA related it was. All I’m trying to say is you’re kind of killing the mood. YOUR SITE, YOUR RULES!!! I know I type stupid **** sometimes but as someone who has been coming to the site a lot longer than posting and watched the growth of it, I’m just telling you it wouldn’t hurt to lighten up on the fighter bashing. It’s a SPORT with FANS. What do you expect? Are you ever going to sell MMAFRENZY T-Shirts or Hooded sweatshirts? Good Way to make money….perhaps…..maybe not…..

I’ve read a rumor that GSP its “mentally” tired and doesn’t want to fight again this year. Which means BJ GSP 2 wouldn’t be in December. So Florian still has a chance at getting a title shot by the end of this year.
If this does happen I think the UFC Milks it and makes Penn and GSP the coaches for season 9 of TUF.
see this is why i hate the TUF because now they alaways have the coachs be champions vs challengers and it holds up the title forever..and then if someone earns a title shot they have to wait till like 6 months for the show and then like anothe couple months till they get there shot!……i like this way better gsp vs bj would be awesome on TUF….if it does happen i cant wait for bj to yell OMOPLATA! during every fight!
this is why it’s so hard to not like kenflo. even though that’s one of the worst nicknames ever, the guy wants to fight. he doesn’t duck anybody and he’s not looking for a shortcut to the belt. how can u not like or respect that? and above all, he doesn’t act like a jackass when he wins!

I can understand GSP vs.Fitch2 or Penn vs.Fitch, but outside of that I don’t see any exciting fights for GSP at 170lbs….He pretty much took care of all the top contenders.

My broter in law’s gym used the place. KENFLO went all rounds with sherk and KENFLO has improved greatly so i quess ya he should probaly fight sherk again and i think he can beat him this time.

As far as T-shirts and other items go it’s definitely something I’ll consider more seriously since there seems to be quite a bit of interest in them.
Also, in regards to the comment crackdown, I think what I wrote made it seem more broad than it truly is. Right now we operate without established commenting rules and everyone is generally fine, however there are some who go beyond what I deem appropriate and that is what I am trying to cut down on.
Banning truly is a last resort and will be used sparsely and with great consideration, however I will be making some changes to ensure the future growth of the site. As we get more traffic and money we draw in more and more blue chip sponsors and this sponsors like to dig into the site and cleaning up the comments, along with continuing to pump out quality content and an effective site design, helps us earn more and continue to grow in the long run.
That said, in the coming month or so I will be laying out an official comment policy that will outline the basic policies of the comment section. This will affect very few people but will allow us to publicly inform everyone of our expectations. Along with the comment policy will be a forum which will allow us to better accommodate off topic conversations and the like. I have no problem whatsoever with off topic conversations and have been known to start a few myself, however they generally clutter up the comments section as they more further and further away from the topic at hand and the forums will be an ideal location for everyone to talk about whatever they choose (again, with some very broad restrictions).
Though we will not initially be requiring registration to comment this will be a likely move in the future as I continue to improve the site.
Hopefully that clarifies everything and thanks again for all your kind words.

A system to let users know why their comments were deleted would be great. I know i’ve had a few deleted and some of them I had no clue why.
i think you guys should have an mmafrenzy official ufc divisional rankings or an all mma ranking
@Dannyboy — I don’t recall deleting any of your comments but the most likely reason is if you mentioned a user who was later banned, in which case all comments who mention the user are automatically deleted along with the user’s comments.
In terms of a system for notifying users why the comments were deleted, it will be built into the forums which I’m hoping to have done, or at least functional, by early-September.
I do my best to clean up comments when I can and remove only the offending portion so they can still be posted but in some cases I just don’t have the time and am forced to delete some rather than correct them.
Yeah, I seem to have caused quite the cleanup…sorry for all that mess.
