Quick Hits: Shogun-Rampage Likely In December, UFC 87 Bonuses, Palaszweski Signs With WEC, and More
– Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson are likely to rematch at the UFC’s year-end pay-per-view event on December 27th in Las Vegas. In their first meeting Rua defeated Jackson via first-round KO at PRIDE Total Elimination 2005 in April 2005.
– Georges St-Pierre and Jon Fitch were each awarded $60,000 “Fight of the Night” bonuses for their five-round main event battle at UFC 87. Demian Maia took home an additional $60,000 “Submission of the Night” bonus for his third-round rear naked choke victory over Jason MacDonald and Rob Emerson received a $60,000 “Knockout of the Night” bonus for his 12-second knockout victory over “The Ultimate Fighter 5″ runner-up Manny Gamburyan.
– UFC 87 “Seek and Destroy” had an official attendance of 15,082 for a venue-record live gate of $2.2 million.
– Lightweight IFL veteran Bart Palaszweski has signed a six-fight deal with the WEC. The contract was recently announced by Palaszewski’s coach and fellow WEC fighter Jeff Curran, who also announced that he will dropping from the 145-pound featherweight division to the 135-pound bantamweight division.
– Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, who was once rumored to be fighting Gina Carano in her next bout, will instead take on Yoko Takahashi on October 4th at Saturday Night Fights 3 on CBS.
– James Thompson, who was defeated in controversial fashion by Kimbo Slice in May at EliteXC’s first-ever CBS event, will face Piotor Kusmierz at Cage Rage 28 on September 20th in London, England.
– A middleweight bout between Joe Riggs and Kazuo Misaki has been officially added to Strikeforce at the Mansion 2 on September 19th.

Shogun vs. Rampage 2 will be exciting. There have been some many big name match ups for the December card, it makes you wonder which ones are actually going to happen. It will be a bit of a let down if we don’t see Griffin vs Liddell.
Rua v Jackson good re~match… its slightly funny that the last two men that the LHW champion Forrest Griffin beat are facing each other (please leave the controversial decision out of it please), im more intrigued by Rua’s return with his continuing acl problem….. and if Rampage would have gotten Wanderlei we all would have seen Jackson get destroyed again imo…..
Bart signing with the WEC is awesome Big Frog going down to 135 doesnt really suprise me he lost to Urijah and Matt Brown wihich pretty much is the reason Matt is getting a title shot v Faber, and i doubt Jeff could beat Jens soo go try and take Miguel (the greatest mullet in the world, awww he cut it boooo…..) Torres @ 135 but i think Jeff should have to fight Ueada first.
Liddell is fighting in September. You might get G.S.P vs. BJ Penn for the main event. Wandy might be facing someone he can smash to set up a rematch with Liddell, when Chuck destroys Griffin for the title in January. That way they can go toe to toe for 5 rounds instead of 3.
I think Joe Silva would allow Wanderlei to fight Stephen Bonnar because, if (big if) Chuck beats Evans and then Chuck regains by beating Forrest in Dec, Wanderlei beats Bonnar u have a possible Wanderlei v Liddell II for the UFC LHW title, ofcourse thats a long was away if ever at all…
im nervous for a wandy/chuck rematch… i have a feeling wandy will get him this time
I see Wanderlei fighting the loser of Liddell/Evans or, depending how his October fight with Cote goes, Anderson Silva.

Wanderlei can beat Chuck on any given day as Chuck could be at Wanderlei it would be kinda awesome if Rampage lost to Rua ( Jackson would be 0-2 v Rua) Chuck beat Wanderlei (Wand would be 0-2 v Liddell) Chuck is 0-2 v Rampage, Ramapge is 0-2 v Wanderlei thats just interesting to me i dunno…. another war between Wanderlei and Chuck would again be epic (especially if for the title)

If Rampage loses to Shogun he is done. Maybe Grffin vs. Machida in Dec. I hope not. Unless Dana makes the fight everone and their mother wants to see (Fedor/Couture), the end of the year spectacular will be unspectacular. I forgot about Mir vs. Minotaur they are fighting in December as well. It’s time for Dana White to swallow his pride and do something that would turn the industry on it’s ear. I know Liddell is fighting in September and it’s not a “big if” it will be a shock if he loses to Evans. Chuck has fought on the New Year’s card for the last 2 years, but maybe he is going to sit it out this time.
I guess I’m just going to stop thinking about it until after Chuck’s fight with Evans and then wait to see what’s up.
the “big if” is because when Chuck comes into a fight against someone he isnt super pumped to fight he doesnt do his best ie Keith Jardine… Im a huge Chuck Liddell fan i just said that because if he takes Evans lightly and loses in a split decision or something that pretty much wont allow him to fight for the LHW title anytime soon, if he gets by Evans and doesnt recieve any injuries in the process i could see him fighting for the title in Dec…
Timcat, Mir v Big Nog, possibly Griffin defending his title, Rampage v Rua, and Wanderlei also fighting thats a pretty good card imo its not going to be the end all be all of MMA but its a pretty good start…. Randy v Fedor would be nice but i really dont think it will be happening anytime soon leagal issues Fedor’s hand ect

im hoping that Chuck doesnt make the same mistake i expect him to come out and win this fight i do have that lingering thought in the back of my head, plus with Jardine as Evans traing partner that does have help Evans, i just dont see the leg kicks coming from Evans though, if he stands with Chuck and Chuck doesnt drop his right hand like he did against Jackson, Evans is in for a long painful night, if Evans takes Chuck down i dont see him be able to keep him there, imo it is Chucks fight to lose…
Rampage jackson has won 6 fights since the lost to shogun and has notable wins over henderson,chuck and matt linland.forrest is the champ, the fans want a rematch. Wandy beat jardine, so did houston alexander.In the cage with shogun or wandy for jackson it will be a way different fight.(only that one fight to focus on and different rules). I can see Wandy fighting the winner of T. Silva / Machida or the winner of Luiz Cane / Sokoudjou; whoever comes out of his bout with the least amount of damage will fighting Wandi in Dec. for the next #1 contender spot (after the winner of Chuck/Rashad gets his title shot.) Rampage vs. Shogun will be interesting now that it is in a cage, Shogun is recovering from an ACL tear, and he is no longer on steroids (like he was in PRIDE.) Great card in Dec w/ Mir vs. Big Nog and possibly St. Pierre / Penn 2, in addition to Rampage / Shogun.

Funny Wandi is clean for PRIDE 33 in Vegas and loses to Henderson, and loses to Chuck in the USA also.
Shogun beat Rampage before, so it’ll be a good fight in the Octagon. FYI, Ninja Rua should have won against Rampage also at PRIDE 29. If you see the decision, even Rampage is surprised.
Think; Forrest will fight the winner out of chuck and rashad. If Chuck were to loose would rashad be the underdog to forrest assuming after the fight he would get a title shot….

heyUFCfan, How could you as a fan say that chuck is not doing so well.He’s coming off of one of the best light heavy fights in a while,and he looked very good and determined.As far as evans chuck still has the best take down defense in the sport.I’m not saying he’s coture but he’s still got some gas left in the tank.
Chuck ain’t coming off anything but an injury. Going 10 months between fights, you never know what could happen.

Plus you all know Affliction, if they survive their next ppv, will be presenting Fedor/Randy for the same Saturday, Dec 27th. Although wouldn’t it be something if affliction did fold and Dana bought them out. Took Fedor, renegotiated a contract and settled all the legal bull**** with Randy. And Presented that as the new main event. Ha. yeah, it’ll never happen. But it would be epic.

if Affliction does present a ppv on the same evening with Randy v Fedor (even though i think Fedor would most likely going to fight in Japan as he usually does) that would be the reason to schedule Forrest v Liddell for the title on their end of the year ppv to destroy any oppritunity of Randy v Fedor stealing the UFC’s spotlight, it makes sense to me anyways…..!!!
It won’t matter. Mma fans everywhere would purchase both events. Nobody is going to ‘not purchase’ the best UFC card ever [with or without a forrest-liddell fight] just because of one fight on affliction. Everyone however will purchase both as every UFC fan wants to see Randy/fedor.
What ever happened to Mark Coleman???? The last i heard he was supposed to be meeting shogun later in the year. What happened to him signing on with UFC for more fights.

I think Fedor/Randy is still far off. I am waiting for another f-d up wrench in Randy’s legal troubles, Fedors hand, Randy’s age…..basically I fear something f-d up happening and us the fans getting the short end of the stick because too much time went by before the two could fight.
ok so Wanderlei and rampage are not fighting again? thank god rampage was beat twice by Wanderlei and I’ll be honest it didn’t make sense to fight again. Mainly due to the unspoken best of three rule that exists in seemingly all combat sports.
As for a chuck vs. forrest fight. I gotta be honest I think it would really be unfair to give him another title shot with out another victory. Granted it would put tails in seats I just think it makes more sense to have him fight someone else after Evans(which he could still lose) before another title shot. Lets not forget he had lost two in a row before beating Wandi. I think it makes sense to have him fight the winner of Franklin and Hamil but maybe that’s just me.
As for Fedor v. Couture I don’t see that happening…ever. Couture is going to be getting nailed to the wall by this legal battle because lets face it he was in breach of contract and the UFC has more money and time to drag it on. Besides he’s busy playing the lead in a prequel to a bad spin-off movie(Scorpion King) and acting like he can act. I really do not see this fight happening and if it did would it really be worth it? We are talking about a guy who is 45 and has only put consecutive wins together twice since 2002. I just don’t see it happening and if it does would it be worth watching? As a fan of all MMA and longtime martial arts practitioner I don’t think it would unless it happens w/n the next few months. Which is unlikely to happen.

In all honesty Rampage should get a rematch with Forrest though with that questionable decision if indeed that page will be fighting again after his legal troubles. Almost feels like there are invisible hands under forrests ass pushing him up.

I agree that rampage needs to take out some of his old memories like wandy and shogun to really call himself the champ. Once page does that he can defeat forrest soundly by avoiding the leg kicks. Rampage then, will shut up the critics. Until then he has a long road ahead and the belt may switch hands several times before page will get his chance.Rampage is still young in the mma world at 30….
i dont see forrest doing good at 32 u can get older and still do good on how much u get beat up dont u see forrest getting beat up alot in fights even if he wins? so i dont think he will do good if gets older and wieght class makes difference to bigger wieght class older u can get like coulture at age 45 at HW. but i still think forrest is better than rampage but in like 2 years rampage could beat forrest.

I’m not a rampage hugger i’m a hardcore chuck fan. If u say everything is fine and dandy how can u justify 4 rds to 1?? In the books of most that is a blow out and that fight was no god damn blowout. Forrest is a paper champ in my books. PS- Can’t wait till the Iceman knocks Forrest’s glass chin into the bleachers.

Work his way up?? LOL he’s the #1 contender right now and probably the rightful owner of the belt. I think his tantrum shouldn’t make a difference and he should get his rematch asap but knowing the ufc the big bucks is in forrest vs chuck with both fighters being the ideal for the ufc’s american target market.
