Affliction “Day of Reckoning” Featuring Arlovski vs. Barnett Announced

Affliction today announced its next event, “Day of Reckoning”, which will take place on October 11th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas and air on pay-per-view.
Former UFC heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett will square off in the main event with a shot a WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko likely on the line.
Rumored bouts for the event include Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs. Tito Ortiz and Matt Lindland vs. Vitor Belfort.

The card sounds ok, but I believe it still needs more good fights. the reasons I bought the first Affliction, #1 for Fedor, #2 every fight had very well known exciting fighters.
As I stated before, get Mike Nickels, Din Thomas, Jesse taylor and/or other ex-Ultimate Fighters.
I heard the Affliction 2 will have a different ring rope. 5 horizontal ropes, instead of 3 to prevent so many fighters falling out. PRIDE had like 10 Japanese refs outside pushing the fighters from falling out. Remember?
Barnett by nasty leg submission. This card looks awesome to me; I’m glad Arlovski and Barnett have to fight for the #1 contender spot. Maybe by the time Fedor’s hand is healed, Couture will have worked out his legal issues and they can finally fight, with the winner then fighting the winner of Barnett/Arlovski. If Affliction cuts fighters’ paychecks but still pays them more than the UFC does, the good fighters will go to them.
I look forward to this card. I’d love to see Arlovski come out like the old days. I’d also like to see the Josh Barnett that fought Randy for the UFC championship. If they both show up ready this could be a good war.
I wasn’t planning on watching the first Affliction but was still very interested in Fedor’s fight. Now Affliction has no Fedor to offer?!? Arlovski is going to F Barnett up. Bartnett has KO power just like Arlovski but I think Arlovski can push the pace more with his agility and speed. Arlovski has also been training with Freddie Roach which should have his stand up game far surpassing Barnett’s. I am really starting to think this is a bad match for Barnett. I’m aware of who Barnett is and his great past but I am talking present day. Arlovski was suppose to be fighting Fedor not Barnett. Barnett is lucky to have this fight and had better come up with a great game plan to win.
The thing is…its gonna be the same fighters, excluding Tito, fighting on this one as there was in Banned. The thing about Affliction is their first couple shows will be successful, but everyone is going to get sick of the same old fighters every PPV. UFC just needs to pay for Fedor….then things will look up.
Will have a wait and see tude toward this one. Arlovski should win but Barnett is no joke either.
Tito needs a win bad, but Bobalu will crush him.
I am going to watch this one with the same mentality I had going into the last one. This ought to be entertaining!
I am excited to see the same fearsome Arlovski from a few years ago, not the one that fought Fabricio Werdum. I don’t think Barnett is going to be able to handle Andre’s speed, but who knows he may be able to hit good once standing up then take him down and G&P the snot right out of him. Or Barnett could throw a spinning backfist ala Shonie Carter and knock him out. Stranger things have happened.
Hopefully Affliction puts some good production value together and this turns out to be something that makes UFC start putting together bad ass shows and defend the crown of best MMA promotion there is. I am hoping the rise of affliction has an Adam Smith effect on the sport.

Well Barnett get your painkillers and paint thinner ready to huff because your going to need it against Arlovski. I think Babalu will choke out Jenna after the match via triangle choke while naked
Affliction needs to make an investment in more than UFC rejects and crappy IFL foreclosures. The only reason the show is in Sept. is because they have to wait for the medical suspensions to clear. They probably had all of their fighters fight on the first card and that is only had two weight classes. They are trying to build a brand off of Fedor and some rejects who could not perform in the UFC. Bringing on Tito is retarded, he has sucked for the last two years and could only beat a washed up senior citizen (Shamrock). Plus with the way he was complaining about not getting paid in the UFC, he surely won’t be cheap. These guys are forgetting that this is a business and businesses are in business to make a profit. Affliction won’t be able to operate in the red forever. Prediction — Affliction goes belly up once “The Donald” realizes he is loosing his hinny, which should be sometime next year and we all get tired seeing the same fighters try to beat Fedor. Fedor vs. Silva II, Jan 2009; Tim should get his turn again by then. $800,000 for getting beat down in under a minute, what a joke. Tim sucked in the UFC and Affliction was stupid enough to pay him to fight the greatest heavyweight of all time. Dumb.
I don’t get it, why the **** was I thinking that I could see Arlovski vs Fedor on this card. Barnett’s skills are not even close to Arlvoski. Everyone could have beat Pedro Rizzo. I won’t pay for that if Fedor is not on the card.
and that is y affliction will fail cuz most people dont care unless fedor is on the card which is y he should stop bull****in and come to the ufc and fight randy in the cage where it shouldve taken place all along

all i have to say is that banned was the best mma event i saw in a long time and to all the people that think otherwise dont now what they are talking about. im tired of watching fights in a cage were a fighter can just lay and pray for 3 rounds f!!! ufc and f!!! the cage

Do you like MMA? The Affliction PPV was not nearly as bad as I expected. However, this is MMA and the ground is a huge part of the sport. The Affliction ring caused fights to be stopped by fighter falling through the ropes. I lost count how many times fighters fell through the ropes and then took their sweet ass time to get up only to clinch and fall again! The cage makes more sense. Banned was probably the 3,367th best show in the last 2 years.
“banned was the best mma event i saw in a long time.” You must be somewhere deep in a province of China. Banned was full of old UFC rejects (except Fedor) and IFL amateurs. It was actually pretty painful to watch, just like the Vera fight on UFC that night. Maybe will see Kimbo fighting there next, that should add some “talent” to their pool. All name and no skills. Weak.
BTW. What was up with having that old washed up band? I guess Affliction thought it might as well use a washed up band since it was using washed up fighters. Oh I get it, it was washed up night. That explains the fans with the acid washed jeans. Real professional production, quality show. Kinda like Inside MMA, what a joke.
Wow I wouldn’t say the WEC was the best show of the year… I’d still have to say Affliction is #1 right now and the NYE UFC will likely top that. I just don’t get as excited over the WEC so my overall joy wasn’t there. It was like I was watching a Kenny Rice/Bas Rutten show where they had some good fights all in a row. Best of the year??? Nahhhh…
I love how everyone thinks the HW division of Affliction is ‘washed up’ even though I bet they would destroy anyone in the HW division of the UFC. Sure they need more fighters…that’s what the UFC is for…and this time it won’t be because they aren’t good enough…it will be because they aren’t PAID enough.

Barnett looked slow and sloppy. Arlovski looked good but he fought a scrub. I hope Affliction puts Arlovski against Silvia and will see if he is the new improved Arlovski or the one who played grab a** for 5 rounds with Tim. You really think Tim is not washed up? He was never good to begin with. I agree the HW division in the UFC is not filled with a lot of talent, but which promotion has a lot of good HWs? Fedor needs to drop to the LHW division, where there is allot of talent. I would like to Fedor and Anderson Silva fight at 205. Then we would see who really is the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Tito is now running his mouth saying he might go and fight in the HW division. He knows he sucks as a LHW and he knows there are not very many good HW, so he might actually get a few wins. What a punk.
