Quote of the Day: Mauricio “Shogun” Rua Might Face Mark Coleman in December

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua“I spoke with my manager now and he said they called him and said it would depend on October’s event. I might face Mark Coleman on December, but nothing has been signed yet. He wanted to face me on November, and I really wanna face him, I hope this time he don’t run from me. He said no to me a couple of times, but I believe now it will happen.”

UFC light heavyweight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua tells Tatame that me may face UFC hall of famer Mark Coleman in December. Rua, a PRIDE veteran, was defeated by Forrest Griffin in his UFC debut in November while Coleman last fought in late-2006, losing to Fedor Emelianenko at PRIDE 32. Coleman and Rua previously fought at PRIDE 31 in early-2006 with Coleman scoring a TKO victory after “Shogun” sustained a broken arm in the opening minute of the bout.

Nothing against Mark Coleman but…..c’mon man. F-n retire and call it a day……You’re not Randy.

  • natedogg77 says:

So are they fighting at heavyweight then? It didn’t make any sence to me why these two fought the first time.

I think Shogun takes MMA too personal. He’s always talking about revenge.

  • RLT says:

I do understand the desire to avenge a loss. However, this just doesn’t do much for him getting into the title picture. I wonder what he means about the October event. Does he possibly get the loser of Machida/Silva?

  • Curtis says:

In my opinion Shogun still has a lot to prove in the UFC. He had a rough start and hasnt shown his true colors in front of the American crowd. Hopefully he isn’t on the downslope of his career. A fight with Coleman sounds more like a gimme fight than anything else.

  • Arnold Darkshner says:

Maybe they don’t want Shogun to start 0-2 like Hendo, that would be the only reason for this fight.

  • Curtis says:

Hendo lost to Rampage and Silva…no shame in that…

But losing to Forrest and an over the hill Coleman…TROUBLE!

  • natedogg77 says:

I really wish Liddell was fighting Shogun. I hope the UFC makes that fight happen sometime next year.

  • natedogg77 says:

Agree with Curtis, Hendo has had it rough and his losses are not a big deal.

If shogun was really that injured prior to the Forrest fight then he shouldn’t have fought in the first place. I think he just got his butt handed to him.

  • Curtis says:

Not only did he take an L, he looked terrible… He looked rusty, nervous, and gassed early… Not how a top 5 205 in the world should react to fighting an unproven Forrest Griffin.

I am not even sure if Chuck and Shogun are on the same level in that division anymore. It is likely that the winner of the Chuck rashad fight will be next in line at Forrest… Then the winner of Wand and his next opponent. After that then you have Thiago Alves and Machida…All I think are above the 0-1 UFC Shogun…

  • Curtis says:

I am sorry not Alves, Silva

  • natedogg77 says:

LOL, Curtis your right about Shogun not being on the same page as Liddell anymore, I just think Chuck would love to get a win over another guy who has beaten Rampage. If I was Chuck and there was just this one guy I couldn’t beat, I would want to beat as many guys that had beaten him.

  • Curtis says:

I wonder just how much he roots against him… If he sits with those hot girls cheering for Forrest…haha

I think Chuck needs to beat Rashad pretty handidly to prove that he is still the Chuck that was on top for so long.

  • natedogg77 says:

I think he will. Rashad couldn’t even finish a 185 pounder in his last fight.

  • Dr Doom says:

I Like the fight myself ….

Whats wrong with having a warm up ? NOTHING !!! We enjoy watching certain fighters and who cares if the opponent is slightly less talented …. a fight can go either way regardless .Its not like coleman is a 4 win 17 loss kinda guy …. he has a legit record and can still dish it out which is just what shogun needs .Everyone else is busy in that division and he has to take on someone , so coleman it is .If shogun was to win , I’d say he should fight chuck next .Then the winner gets forrest

  • Curtis says:

    Doom,
How does a fighter that is 1-1 in the UFC get title contention? Sure he was a great fighter in Pride but how well did that work out for Cro Cop?

A win over Coleman does nothing for Rua.

  • JOHNBOY says:

is this going to be at 205 or what,

i hope chuck gets a shot after he beats evens, he will take forrest to the cleaners, i still think chuck is top dog out there

  • YZFOXRACING says:

IM WITH YOU JOHNBOY. EVERYONE IS DISSING HIM BECAUSE HES LOST 2 OF HIS LAST 3 FIGHTS. BUT IT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE… HE NEEDS TO GET REFOCUSED. I GAURENTEE YOU HE’LL BE A CHAMP AGAIN. AND WILL BEAT RAMPAGE…

  • jazzkok says:

Sure shogun still has to prove himself in the ufc, but he’s STILL a top lhw even though he lost to forrest. Don’t forget that he destroyed the former champ rampage and that he wasn’t even 100% for the forrest fight. This fight for coleman is not just a gimme, it’s a gimme a break. This will do nothing for his chances at the belt. He should be fighting top ten guys atleast. Maybe the loser of vera vs jardin.

  • belly says:

im pretty sick of hearing shogun wasnt even 100%. either dont take the fight or deal with the loss.

  • Will says:

exactly jazz. coleman’s a friggin waste of time. jardin would be a great benchmark and i’d like to see that match. both guys have great kicks/strikes and if you don’t bum rush jardin he can pick u apart. we’ll see if rua can bring it and i know he will. vera still got to prove he can cut weight and have energy…

  • The Gunslinger says:

chuck will be champ again but he wont beat page….you guys are the kind of guys that say chuck beats rampage 3/5 times

  • Will says:

say that after rashad… chuck will only be champ if they back door him in. he won’t beat the winner of machida/thiago or page of course…

  • braveheart says:

This fight will be @ 205lb

Coleman is quite a small hw usually weighing in at around 220lb

  • Dietrich says:

Where a trailer park? This isn’t a UFC fight…It isn’t quality and the fact Rua is up means either Coleman is really past it and or Rua was hurt worse than the let on.

  • joel b says:

coleman is a little old isnt he?

  • Dr Doom says:

    curtis ,

Its not about the quality of the fight ….its the fact that he IS fighting someone just after injury recovery . He is a top fighter still even if he lost a fluke fight to griffin . And lets face it … if these guys fought using the real UFC rules NHB .griffin wouldnt even in the top 25 . the whole reason for the rules is so the gracies dont beat everyone . Strikes to the top of the head destroy most of these fighters today as they’re relying on the rules to operate rather than the unexpected .

  • Erizzle says:

Did anyone inform Coleman the UFC tests for ‘roid use these days?

  • Dietrich says:

I didn’t know how old he was until I saw the video of him on sherdog doing his Mr Fuji to Wes Sims Iron Sheik…(It was after the fight in Canada)

  • ufcmanz says:

Is this a Light Heavy Weight Fight or a Heavy Weight Fight just thinking Rua is in LHW division and Coleman was set to fight Lesnar at HW so anyone know?

  • Pete90 says:

Rua is my favourite fighter hope he beats coleman…i cant see Coleman cutting to 205 maybe Rua is going to move up

  • The Gunslinger says:

rua will not go up ….coleman will go down and get destroyed easily

  • trey_trey says:

coleman should just stop it already!

  • Dannyboy says:

I’d love to see Coleman go out in a blaze of glory. He took on Fedor not that long ago and actually made it to the 2nd round…even slamming Fedor. He WAS the man… but in this case I hope he can BE the man one more time.

  • Zero says:

Coleman is going to roll shogun.

  • steve h says:

I dont see why shogun or coleman are fighting each other… A win over coleman would do nothing for shogun as far as getting a title shot soon..Colemans too old and will get destroyed. i wish coleman the best of luck though but he will get beat

  • Dietrich says:

Coleman was only as good as the Lesnar fight in Minnesota. If Dana and Randy could make nice maybe you can get a goodbye bout but nothing else makes any sense. If I want to see grandpa fight I will put on A Kirk Douglas movie
