EliteXC Ratings Down By More Than 1.5 Million Viewers

EliteXC Unfinished Business PosterThe ratings for Saturday’s second installment of EliteXC Saturday Night Fights were down by 1.68 million viewers compared to the May 31st debut edition featuring Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano, according to TV by the Numbers:

And there really still isn’t much to say except for this: EliteXC Saturday Night Fights without any buzz surrounding Kimbo Slice performed much worse without Kimbo than it did with him. CBS initial foray into MMA didn’t draw a slew of viewers but at least performed well in the 18-49 and 18-34 demos.

That airing back on May 31, 2008 scored 4.3 million viewers and a 1.9/6 among 18-49 year olds and since the Kimbo Slice bout for that airing aired past primetime (11p) the most viewed portion wasn’t included. But lacking any Kimbo anticipation, last night’s fights pulled a mere 2.62 million and a 1.0/3 from 9pm-11pm.

The ratings drop was anticipated as Saturday’s card failed to feature the promotion’s top draws in Slice and Carano but look for the ratings to return to the 4 million range in October when both fighters return to action on CBS.

Carano is a top draw? Please, never even heard of her until about a week before the fight. Women’s mma is boring. Rather watch wwe divas fake fight. Maybe the fact that the whole roster is mediocre at best is the reason for slumping ratings.

  • JOHNBOY says:

this proves ufc is top dog, only wat these guys can make money is by putting a youtube superstar on, if dana wants to get rid of all thes other organations then i think all he has to do is sign kimbo to get rid of eliteXC

  • rutdog says:

Well, the initial show is always going to draw the top numbers. This was a much better show and I will probably watch the next show to see if they go back to the May 31 freakshow again for the numbers.

  • Jeremyjackson says:

EliteXC is a circus sideshow, and Kimbo is a twisted carnival freak. Gina Carano has a penis.

  • KOuch says:

I’m listening to one of the Elite commentators on a radio interview right now out here in San Francisco and he just said, “Without Kimbo, we’re not going to draw very well.” Then he started talking about the Cotto fight. Elite is f-n stupid. How is one of their own commentators gonna go start talking about another sport and then say “without” Kimbo Elite can’t draw? Stupid ass people.

  • JOHNBOY says:

wow wow wow wow did u just say gina had a penis come on dude ude like nothing better then to tap that ass

  • Rydawg says:

I loved how Jake Shields said he wants the winner of GSP/Fitch what a joke, I think both of them would beat Shields right now…

  • KOuch says:

One more thing, the same commentator said boxing will continue to grow and then spoke of Rampage, Forrest, Liddell and many others in a way that made it sound like Elite has something to do with them. He continues to speak of MMA like someone who just watched Elite and it is their first time seeing MMA. Tons of misunderstandin and elemtary explanations.

  • KOuch says:

    Rydawg,

Shields has already submitted Fitch. If Fitch couldn’t keep it standing, he wouldn’t stand a chance against Shields. Did you know who Shields was before Saturday night?

  • joel b says:

did anyone notice the interveiw with kimbo he did not sound like i thought he would he was rather respectful and spoke with a hint of ghetto elagance lol. but either way if scott smith didnt tire out so much that was a great fight same with diaz its some sick boxing they teach them down in stockton that cyborg chick looked like a man and fought like one also that was my first female mma match i ever saw and i was not impressed not at all the other girl caught a beat down i am curious how good the female champ is

  • Rydawg says:

    Hey Kouch,

You might want to get your facts straight bro Fitch has only lost to Mike Pyle and Wilson Gouveia and Shields submitted Pyle, so maybe I should ask you if you’ve ever heard of Shields before saturday smart guy….so again I don’t think he could beat either, Fitch maybe GSP is a definite no.

  • Jeremyjackson says:

joel, you and that cyborg chick have something in common…. no periods!

  • KOuch says:

    RYdawg,

Go type Shields vs Fitch on youtube.
Then type KOuch with 3 midgets on youporn.
I need to tend to business now but cannot wait to continue this…..it is getting tired though. Shields is the man. Sorry.

  • Rydawg says:

Ok a BJJ match from 3 yrs ago? that’s weak dude…shields may be the man for a minor MMA league like ELITE XC but come on fighting Nick Thompson for a Championship? about as lame as it gets, hell Karo beat Thompson to a pulp. In no way am I saying Jake isn’t talented but I would like to see him fight some stiffer competition.

  • Rydawg says:

    Kouch,

Oh yeah what you did w/ those midgets is just sick and wrong….and I think illegal. LOL

  • huertarogerhuerta says:

y r these idiots callin out gsp or fitch when ur not even in there league and wat about the asshole announcer that was sayin the winner of smith vs lawler wanted anderson silva ur in a shit company wit shit fighters ur nowhere near ready to even dream bout fightin those guys

  • Jeremyjackson says:

I don’t think there’s any doubt Kimbo will be in the UFC before long… working security.

  • Dietrich says:

Just read ratings were down…They attribute it to no Gina or Kimbo…Why can’t it just be to a crap product last time out…
XC…Own up to it…The fans may stay longer than the wind does with Kimbo.(Kimbo fans I Only typed that because he gassed)

  • KOuch says:

    Rydawg,

Shields has gotten better just like the rest of ‘em. I promise he’ll make his way to the UFC. The youporn thing is pretty cool huh? I wonder if anyone actually tried searching for it?

  • Terry says:

CBS execs and advertisers were happy and that is all that matters. Considering CBS got into MMA hoping to get a 2.0 rating to begin with this event was a success given no hype and no established stars. Really no need to panic, their crossover stars will be back on the next card. Production was much better … dare I say on par with UFC. Plus comparing their 1st event to the 2nd is like comparing the UFC PPV between the Tito/Chuck versus the following event.

  • The Gunslinger says:

i dont know what dana is thinking all he has to do is make a womans divison and sign kimbo andthere you go bye bye elite xc

  • JustJoe says:

The good thing about elite xc being on cbs is that we will only have to watch it until the ratings totally plummet, they cancel the show, and kimbo joins ufc to get demolished by Brock Lesnar lol.

  • Chris says:

I just feel the need to say one thing about Shields, the guy is an incredible talent but the problem w/ being in a weak organization is that w/o beating elite competition he’ll always be a what-if guy. Until he faces the big guns of the division there will always be doubt.

As for the Lawler-Smith comment about facing Anderson, I nearly died laughing. I love watching both fighters cause they put it on the line but lets be real these guys didn’t make it in the UFC and ended up in EliteXC. Plus I’d give a lawler-Anderson fight about as long as the Irvin-Anderson fight but with an uglier ending due to lawler trying to throw those long looping hooks that leave you vulnerable to a solid striker.

  • foiled says:

Ratings being down had nothing to do with the lack of a “top draw” on the card. They were down because the first show was so terrible that nobody wanted to watch it again. EliteXC is way too ghetto and cheap. Two things I hope the UFC never becomes. Dancing girls and rappers?! Come on!!! You can’t put on a terrible show and expect everybody to show up for the next one.

  • Dannyboy says:

I don’t think the ratings decrease was any surprise at all. The show was a TON better so let’s hope they’re not stupid enough to go back to the crappy ways of the 1st show. They’ve got Kimbo in their back pocket and he will probably be on every 3 shows so the ratings will improve gradually. I really hope he doesn’t lose to Rogers. Rogers’ mouth is out of control and it’s nice to see Kimbo taking the high road. He needs about 10-12 more fights with a couple losses to be considered a true MMA fighter. I do see it happening as long as he has my man Bas Rutten in his corner.
