Quote of the Day: Stephan Bonnar To Miss UFC 90 in Chicago

“My first reaction was pretty much that I couldn’t believe that the UFC was finally coming to my hometown. Right after that I said to myself, ‘God damn why can’t I be ready to fight?’
I recently started to get real aggressive with the rehab and my doctor wasn’t very happy about it. I was told to back off a little bit.”
UFC light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar provides an update to MMADHOUSE on his recovery from a serious knee injury, his hopes to return to the octagon before the end of 2008, and his disappointment at being unable to fight at UFC 90 on October 25th in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

why does bonnar look like he’s arching his back in this pic? did anyone see him do the muscle pose after he beat mike nichols? f’ing priceless. i like the guy, i hope he make’s his way back towards the top of the pack cuz he seemed to be doing well for a while then he just kinda dissappeared.
he didnt dissappear he got caught usin roids b4 the 2nd forrest fight and got suspended 9 months off can really stop ur career i thought bonner was gonna go places now im more inclined to believe hes gonna end up as a 205 gatekeeper
even before that though he seemed to be on the decline. i agree though, he does seem to be the guy that others will beat to get noticed.
HES A COOL GUY BUT HES SO WELL KNOWN BECAUSE OF THE FORREST FIGHT 1. WATCHING THE ORIGINAL TUF. NONE OF HIS FIGHTS WERE IMPRESSING. TO BE HONEST
he always will be fairly well known thanks to forrest, but he has never impressed too much (other than his 2 good fights with forrest). i dont expect too much from him
The only thing that I remember being really impressive was how long James Irvin was able to go before tapping when Bonnar had his shoulder all f***ed up. Bonnar, not too memorable, other than the Griffin fight(s).
Bonnar is cool but nothing more than a gatekeeper on the brink of getting cut if he doesn’t come back strong. His name is only recognizable for his first fight with Forrest. Since then he has been mediocre at best. I wish him the best but don’t expect him to be a force or even in the UFC for very long with the way his career has been unstable with roids, injury and a midget fetish. Bonnar could be a decent draw for his name and historic fight against Griffin…….Perhaps Affliction will give him $80,000 a fight like they paid Buentello.
He won’t be missed here, by me anyway lol. He has done nothing since Griffin/Bonnar 1. And the only reason that fight was any good was because both lack knockout power lol.
He doesn’t merit anything but a swing bout right now.
A) That’s a terrible picture of Stephan.
B) Damn, this sucks. I’m a big Bonnar nuthugger. I wish he could make it to fight on this card. It’s unfortunate that you can’t rush recovery. He injures too easily for being such a good fighter. If he keeps getting hurt in training his age will catch up to his career before he has a chance to climb back to the top.
I think they missed a great on air personality with Bonnar as that is where his skill lies.
Dietrich,
Bonnar would probably be 1,000,000,000 times better than Frank Sharock at commentating. He has a pretty good sense of humor and didn’t he previously sit in with Rogan??? Maybe I am mistaken but I thought he did. I also think KenFlo coud be a great commentator when his career is over.
i could see bonnar being a good commentator. to be honest, i thought shamrock did a decent job for elitexc
I figured with Rampage in the nuthouse and all the other good LHWs booked for upcoming fights, Bonnar might get the call to take on Wanderlei in his home town. Guess not. I am once again calling for a Shogun/Wandy match-up for UFC 90.
he is a lower level gat keeper used in fighting the 205 debut guys thats all he hasnt done much after that but he is funny and easy to promote
KOuch,
I think he did sit in at least once and he definitely has the wit for the audience. I have not seen Florian’s mic work yet but I agree that Shamrock is weak. Couldn’t he get the invisible braces? I will be honest with you he has let me down with his recent color commentary work. He was better when he was with the UFC back in the day. I saw him on an MSNBC special teach a submission technique in a nice simple manner that expressed the keys properly. You would think the skills would translate. But then again if I tried I would probably get kicked off HAM radio…
i think bonnar is the man…he lost to forrest and rashad but theres no shame in that, he’s one exciting guy to watch!!! and he has a chin like a stone wall
I really can’t fault a guy for using ‘roids to heal an injury. Only using ‘roids to have un-natual power to do damage on someone else’s body is dirty.
