Dean Lister vs. Thales Leites At UFC Fight Night 15

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Jul 28, 2008 at 11:00 am ET16 Comments

Dean ListerMiddleweight contenders Dean Lister and Thales Leites will square off at UFC Fight Night 15 on September 17th at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska, according to InTheGuard.tv.

UFC Fight Night 15 will air on Spike TV immediately before the debut episode of “The Ultimate Fighter 8″ featuring interim UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former UFC champion Frank Mir as the coaches of a cast of aspiring lightweight and light heavyweight fighters. Additional bouts set for the event include Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer, Clay Guida vs. Mac Danzig, and Houston Alexander vs. Eric Schafer.

Lister (11-5) has won four of his five bouts inside the octagon including back-to-back wins over Jordan Radev and Jeremy Horn. His lone loss was an early-2007 split decision defeat to Nate Marquardt.

Leites (13-1) entered the UFC with an undefeated 9-0 record but was defeated by Martin Kampmann in his debut in late-2006. Leites bounced back to win his next four-straight bouts over Pete Sell, Floyd Sword, Ryan Jensen, and, most-recently, Nate Marquardt. His split decision win over Marquardt at UFC 85 in June was aided by two point deductions from Marquardt for kneeing the head of a downed opponent and striking the back of the head.

UPDATE: The tentatively scheduled bout between Dean Lister and Thales Leites has been postponed after Lister suffered a minor knee injury while preparing for the fight.

I’m going with Leites in this one. There’s something about Dean Lister I just don’t like. He seems like a nice guy but his fighting style…..I don’t dig it. I don’t know why either. GO LEITES!!!! Leites by sub rd2 2:37.

  • Chavezz says:

Now i personnaly belive that Dean Lister is one of the better grapplers out thier his jiujitsu is so good but so is thales leites but thales does not have the same skills as Dean Lister

  • Dannyboy says:

I look forward to Clay Guida pounding Danzig into the ground and then losing at the end because he got stupid. Mind you I hope that’s not what happens…but it seems to be his forte.

I’ll also be praying to the MMA gods that Neer finds a way to shut up punkboy Nate “209 Area Code BIATCH” Diaz. Otherwise he will make Nick “The Dick” a proud brother of someone who managed to out “dick” him the last time he had the chance.

  • KOuch says:

    DannyBoy,

Clay Guida!!!!!YES!!!! I agree. I want to see that veagen weirdo Danzig get pummled. Personally, I am a Nate fan. He’s got his work cut out for him in this fight. I wonder how he’ll act if he loses…

  • braveheart says:

Thales Leites should be fighting a top 10 middleweight in the ufc not lister

  • Kris Karkoski says:

Both of these guys probably are top 10 middleweights in the UFC. Lister’s won four of five with his only loss a split decision to Marquardt who fought Silva for the title and Leites has won four of five as well.

Both are very solid middleweights and the winner is near the top of the list of middleweight challengers for 2009.

mayb the diaz brothers have found some class i didnt hear any **** talkin from nick just a bunch of thanx and spreadin the word bout his gym so mayb a new trend has started wit these guys

  • rutdog says:

I have been very impressed with Lister’s BJJ and grappling. He should handle Leites on the ground, but his standup has been questionable. Nate is a lot different than his brother, and I think he has learned from his brother’s stupidity. If (when) he loses his first fight in the UFC, we’ll really see, but I don’t expect any of Nick’s behaviors. I think He will handle Neer, and I think Danzig will handle Guida, also. The Guida Danzig should be a good fight. I think Danzig is bigger and stronger than Guida and will just be able to hold him down better than others have.

  • Chavezz says:

Mac danzic is gonna Pound a victory out of The carpenter

  • The Gunslinger says:

i would like to see lister win..and eventually get a title shot ..i want to see someone who has awesome grappiling face silva…and no lutter doesnt count cause he has no energy past rnd 1….oh course with the price of gas these days i dont blame lutter for running on empty!

  • Dietrich says:

Lister and Diaz on the same card almost makes me regret the WEC purchase I made. He(Dean) should be on a title run very soon.

  • Jeremyjackson says:

Nate Diaz needs to be beaten to death. Dean Lister sucks. Learn how to throw a punch Dean, you friggin’ wet blanket.

  • joel b says:

so will they name big nog the HW champ why are they draggin out randy’s retirement he still cant fight anywhere else reguardless of retirement or not right????

  • Dietrich says:

    JeremyJackson,
I hope your day got better…

  • ufcmanz says:

Dean Lister and Thales Leites I personally think Leites or Lister is more deserving of a title shot then Cote … even Kampmann or Maia.. I think Cote should of got the winner of Leites Vs. Lister and then the winner of Bisping Vs. Leben. The UFC should of built up a contender for Silva , not just throw him a decent guy to fight; Just because they don’t any contenders ready for him, built him a contender like what I was saying

Winner of { Leites Vs. Lister } Fightes Cote
Then Winner of { Leites/Lister Vs. Cote } Fightes
Winner of { Leben Vs. Bisping } For #1 contender

Thats 1 way to built a contender or another is:

Winner of { Maia Vs. Macdonald } Fightes Kampmann
Then Winner of { Maia/Macdonald Vs. Kampmann } Fights Winner of { Henderson Vs. Palhares } For #1 contender.

Thats a way to make Silva a test but to just throw Cote at Silva now. Makes no sense Who has Cote beat to give him this title shot? I as a Fan want more of a change for Silva not so much as a new fighter but a deserving fight. Someone that has fought his way throw some of the best to get to Silva. Here are Cotes wins Scott Smith/ Kendall Grove/ Drew McFedries/ Ricardo Almeida Not one of theses guys are well rounded, but Knock Out over Grove and McFedries was impressive but the best fighter in terms of skill was Ricardo Almeida which was a split decision? come on??? he had to sprawl and brawl his way to a decision, meaning he needs to improve.

  • Dietrich says:

Lister would be a better title fight than Cote but the Canadians won’t cross the border for the Boogeyman.
