UFC 89 To Be Broadcast On Spike TV

UFC President Dana White is expected to offically announce during tonight’s replay of UFC 84 “Ill Will” on Spike TV that UFC 89 “Breakthrough” will air for free on the cable network.
The event will likely air on tape delay.
UFC 89 takes place on October 18th at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England and features Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben and Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva.
Though the event has been rumored to air on Spike TV for weeks, it is finally expected to be officially announced tonight after both sides recently reached an agreement to air the event.
UFC 89 takes place just one week before UFC 90, which will take place at the Allstate Arena on October 25th in Chicago, Illinois and air live on pay-per-view.

why does UFC feel the need to compete with other organizations
on July 19th they had the free Silva/Irvin card
Now on July 26th they are replaying UFC 84
just to beat out the competition
but they need to realize that these other organizations give more mma fighters jobs b/c not all of them can make it in the UFC
I’m excited for this card. I think machida/silva makes for a better main event. I’m pulling for Silva. Machida is very good but not very exciting.

Huerta, come on, you’re complaining because you get a card for free that includes 3 (maybe 4) top ten LHWs (Machida, Silva, Jardine, Vera) and the fight for the right to fight Anderson Silva next. Yeah, there’s not a championship fight on here, but I think this is great card, and for free, even better. Unless you live over the pond, then, well that sucks for you. I like this card and personnally, I’m really looking forward to it.

I dont know what all you guys are talking about? I’m not complaining that its free but i’d pay at least five dollars to see Bisping get his teeth smashed in by Leben! But i won’t ever pay to see Lyota run away and throw five counter punches the whole time and win. Silva, you better knock him out!
We are starting to see the business man in Dana. All of these moves are brilliant and are doing nothing but helping the UFC while hurting the other guys. He is showing us why he is in charge and that the UFC is still top dog.
EliteXC put on an EXCELLENT show tonight. Almost all of the BS was removed. Kudos!
The only reason this fight is free, is because it is live at 3pm EST. And they do not sell a lot of PPVs. Sports bars aren’t going to pay $750 – $2000 for a 3pm card. The math doesn’t make good business sense. I’m sure all the England fights have low PPV buys. On Spike, they get the money from the commercials, and the masses are tricked into believing that Dana does it for the fans. It’s a great card though, I’ll be watching…

yea i missed the jake sheilds fight and the chick fight but the diaz fight was good and so was the smith lawler rematch and i didnt see busta rhymes or elitexcs version of the laker girls. see wat happens when u get gary shaw outta the way alot betta this time around
Shiels fight was good. Chick fight? There was only one woman fighting on that card tonight and she lost. Does the CSAC test for gender?
The dumbass Elite commentating guys said the winner of Lawler/Smith wants Anderson Silva?!? Why would they say something that is not only not going to happen but totally pointless and stupid. Neither one stands a chance and there is a reason they are not in the UFC at the moment.
In the first fight the girl looked pretty f-n airheaded.

yeah KOuch how about Shields calling out the winner of the Fitch/GSP fight as well. I have no respect for Frank Shamrock after seeing the interview with him on ESPN this past week and tonight he didn’t help his cause any. Will say though Diaz looked good and Shields while very good I’m not sure he’s a #1 fighter…yet. That said Elite did put on a decent card but it’s not the big leagues yet.

Matt – Normally we do post the news much quicker, however this weekend I attended my sister’s wedding in Virginia and had poor internet access as well as other activities that kept me from posting normally.

R U kidding about Machida being exciting? He is great, however, his matches are in slow-motion. It’ll be a good fight, but decisions are not exciting. Maybe if he earns the title, we’ll see him submit/knockout fighters in the fourth or fifth round.
Sooner or later Machida is going to be facing the dangerous strikers and I hope he gets tagged!
Beating washed up Tito by decision does not mean you deserve a title shot, and that’s why he’s not getting one.

Im telling the truth i really enjoy ever one of machida’s fight’s …..dont forget had the round not ended machida may have tko’d tito in the first…watch it and see the arms where completly locked and lyoto would not have made a mistake or let tito up…i watch the machida fight again last night and it was awesome
Rewatching the Tito/ Machida fight I feel Machida will not be much of a problem for Forrest. He’s just fighting with a point sparring karate timing.He almost got Tito in the first but when Tito got him on the ground he was not sitting the pace and Tito almost got him in that submission chain he was working(armbar-triangle or vice versa)The longer he stays out of the red zone counter striking the more of a problem it will be when he has to dig in. His defeat will be Rodriguez-Sylvia esque. Or for the movie buffs..Rocky three the first fight with Clubber Lang.

good point…the way i see it the only wy i see him losing is by a quick submission …cause ya machida got caught in the tringle but he can fight through that stuff…and he has too good reaction skills and speed to get hit with ko punch or kick….the one thing i dont understand is how come no one has tried the old space invaders trick when you get down to the last guy and instead of trying to hit machida with accuracy and fast punchs punch or kick to the side where machida usually hops over too…so you hit where is going instead of where he is…it could work but probably not
