Keith Jardine will look to bounce back from a 36-second TKO loss to Wanderlei Silva when he takes on Brandon Vera in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 89 on October 19th in Birmingham, England. The event is expected to air on Spike TV.
Jardine announced the matchup during a recent appearance on an Albuqueque, New Mexico radio show.
Jardine (13-4-1) was in contention for a light heavyweight title shot following a unanimous decision victory over former UFC light heavyweight Chuck Liddell before being defeated by Silva at UFC 84 in May. A cast member on the second season of “The Ultimate Fighter”, Jardine is 3-3 in his last six bouts.
Vera (9-2), a former heavyweight contender, rebounded from back-to-back losses to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum with a unanimous decision victory over Reese Andy in his light heavyweight debut at UFC Fight Night 14 on July 19th. Despite winning the bout over Andy, Vera failed to impress at the new weight class as the once promising up-and-comer delivered his third-straight underwhelming performance. Prior to the losses, Vera defeated former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir via first-round TKO in late-2006.
