UFC president Dana White confirmed that UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will face Johny Hendricks is his next fight. White announced the move on the FUEL TV wrap-up show following the conclusion of UFC 158.
Hendricks defeated Carlos Condit via decision in last night’s “Fight of the Night.” The consensus number one contender has now won six-straight fights since dropping a bout to Rick Story in 2010.
White was thrilled, though he meant no offense, with how things worked out with Rory MacDonald’s injury and Hendricks vs. Condit being the new bout.
White also quickly dismissed Nick Diaz’s request for a rematch:
“Diaz won’t get a rematch. There’s no doubt Johny Hendricks deserves the next shot. That fight was amazing tonight. I’m actually glad that it worked out that way. Those were the top guys to see who faces Georges St-Pierre. Johny Hendricks deserves it.”
Hendricks was excited to hear White confirm the bout, insisting he would have had to “reconsider [his] career” had he been passed over again.
