A battle of Brazilian brawlers is expected to be added to the bill for UFC 162 as former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Rafael Cavalcante will be making his UFC debut against Thiago Silva. Ironically, or perhaps not so much so, both men are coming off drug suspensions.
MMA Fighting first reported the news.
Cavalcante (11-3, 1 NC) is coming off of a first-round decimation of Mike Kyle in the Strikeforce cage last May. However, his submission victory was overturned and “Feijao” was issued a year-long suspension behind testing positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol.
Silva (14-3, 2 NC) most recently notched a third-round arm-triangle choke over Stanislav Nedkov in November. The Blackzilian fighter then had his victory overturned after a post-fight drug test showed marijuana metabolites. His suspension is up April 10.
The event is scheduled to take place July 6 in Las Vegas.
