A pair of UFC light heavyweight match ups are in the works as Dan Henderson and former UFC champion Rashad Evans have verbally agreed to meet in Canada. A second light heavyweight matchup between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueria is also expected to be officially announced soon. The bouts will likely end up on the UFC 161 PPV.
Brazilian site Tatame first reported the match ups.
Both Evans and Henderson come into their bout after disappointing outings in their previous fights. Evans was shut down by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 156 in a rather ugly performance. Henderson’s last outing was just as frustrating, as the former Strikeforce champion was defeated by Lyoto Machida at UFC 157.
The Brazilian website also reports that a PRIDE rematch has been set as Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is slated to face the aforementioned Nogueira. The two fighters fought in a classic battle at the 2005 PRIDE Grand Prix.
UFC 161 is slated for June 15 in Canada. The location for UFC 161 is expected to be formally announced tomorrow for Winnepeg, Manitoba according to the Winnepeg Free Press. The fight card is also slated to pit Tyron Woodley versus Jake Shields.
