Following the news of Rory MacDonald’s injury the UFC has tapped Johny Hendricks to replace the injured fighter against Carlos Condit. Hendricks original opponent, Jake Ellenberger, now awaits a new opponent. The UFC confirmed the news earlier tonight.
Hendricks and Condit will now share the co-main event for UFC 158. Both were last in action at UFC 154, with Hendricks destroying Martin Kampmann and Condit putting a scare into UFC welterweight Georges St-Pierre.
UFC welterweights Demian Maia and Tyron Woodley both expressed interest in joining the card prior to the MacDonald injury, so it is possible one of the two fighters will face the hard-hitting Ellenberger in Montreal.
UFC 158 is scheduled for March 16 and will take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The bout will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz.

woah that’s a sick fight.
Tyron Woodley – “That was a pretty quick fight [against Hieron] so my passport is current. Someone fall out on the 16th of March, I want in.”
Ellenberger v. Woodley sounds like a fun one to me.
Marquardt is also asking for it as well now.
I think every welterweight other than Rory will be on this card before it’s all said and done.
Well, this turned out all right, Condit vs Hendricks, and most likely Ellenberger vs Woodley (cause that honestly makes more sense than Maia) but if Marquardt would be just as interesting an opponent as anyone.
Well I didn’t really want to see Ellenburger vs Hendricks cuz I want both to fight for the title. But idk if Hendricks can beat Condit. Ellenburger vs Mia or Woodley would be awesome rather it be Tyron though cuz soe1 be goin to sleep!
I like both Ellenberger and Hendricks as well, but I did want to see it, I thought it was a great fight and I’m a little disappointeed it won’t be happening now. The three leading candidates for Ellenberger appear to be Maia, Woodley and Marquardt, personally I wouldn’t mind any of those getting the fight.
I hate this “undisclosed injury”thing, starting to feel like Hockey with the “upper body” injury. I’m curious..no in fact i need to know, this was a highlight for me.
Neck injury, out for at least a month. Anything beyond that you’re going to have to get someone to violate disclosure laws or talk to Rory yourself. Just the way injuries go. Fighters don’t want to release too much info on them because they’re justifiably paranoid.
Id talk to him but he left us here in Kelowna for bigger things in montreal…really does suck to have these injuries so close to fight time.
i would give woodley the fight bc of the impression he left in his last fight.. Marquardt looked horrible against saffedine…
Woodley vs Ellenberger
Marquardt vs Kos/Lawler winner
Saffidine vs Mia
I get what you’re saying, but by the same token look what Marquardt did to Woodley. I’d be interested in seeing Marquardt vs Ellenberger.
Totally agree. I’m a fan of Ellenberger. And I think Marquardt would be a great matchup for both fighters.
I Hope Hendricks takes condits head off and gets his title shot he deserves! And I hope GSP comes to fight diaz instead of humping him on the floor!
I’m sorry, do you have first hand knowledge that Diaz doesn’t know sweeps or reversals? And if he doesn’t, doesn’t that, by default, make him the lesser MMA fighter?
If guys don’t like to be held down, they need to work on their TD defense and getting back up.
Not at all I can imagine he does know all aspects of MMA but you just know that the Diaz brothers come to fight! As much as I want diaz to win I am not sure he will! but then again matt sera did it!
Really unfair comment but it’s your right to enjoy only the stand up aspect.
I like Ellenberger vs Marquardt or Woodley. Give Maia the winner. Personally I think they could have had Maia vs Hendricks for #1 contender, because if hendricks loses to condit then you have no clear cut #1 to challenge Diaz for the belt!
Tarec Saffidine should be above marquardt and woodley imo
He reportedly turned it down
Odd stat or trend i noticed with Hendricks is that in his last 8 fights results have ended KO-Decision-KO-Decision-KO-Decision-KO-Decision. Just a coincidence but by this trend the next one is a decision…interesting.
If Hendricks is going to win over Condit, a decision just might be his best bet, especially considering it’s a 3 round fight. Carlos is one of those guys who just doesn’t get lit up or stopped. He’s the one doing the stopping. Hendricks may try to use his wrestling real quick to secure 2 rounds if he doesn’t like how the fight is going on the feet. That said Hendricks has that right, by same token if he tries waiting too long for his right it may never come or me may get hit first.
