While Bellator is well into their eighth season, their most successful to date, the promotion’s seventh season refuses to die. The Bellator Season Seven Lightweight Tournament Final which pits Marcin Held against Dave Jansen has been delayed once again.
The two were originally slated to meet at Bellator 84, but The Horseshoe in Hammond, Indiana wouldn’t let Marcin Held compete as he is only 20 years old, therefore ineligible for entrance to the casino. This time around, it’s a reported injury to the Pole that sees the proposed Bellator 92 bout fall by the wayside, however Held denies the injury, but states that the bout has been moved back one week, now added to Bellator 93.
Held’s (15-2) tournament run saw the Polish fighter take a unanimous decision victory over Murad Machaev in the quarterfinals. The leglock specialist then put his talents to good use, forcing UFC veteran Rich Clementi to submit via toe hold at 3:04 of the second stanza in the semifinals.
Jansen (18-2) submitted Magomed Saadulaev with a guillotine at 41 seconds into the third round of the quarterfinals. “The Fugitive” advanced to the finals after a controversial split decision victory over Ricardo Tirloni.
