Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos Requests Release From UFC Deal

Former Strikeforce women’s featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos has requested a release from her UFC contract according to manager Tito Ortiz. The main issues between the two sides are the fighter’s inability to reach 135lbs. and the UFC’s lack of interest in multiple women’s divisions at this time.  Santos was willing to meet UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey at 140lbs., however Rousey – who originally called out Santos when she was a Strikeforce featherweight – was adamant about remaining at bantamweight.

Santos is hoping to fight in 2013 and could find her way to Invicta FC before long.

of course Tito has to be her manager. If she cant make 135 without the juice, get lost.

  • Philly V says:

Why is Tito wearing non-prescription glasses?

  • Advent says:

So, she can cut down to 140, BUT…5 more pounds to make it to 135 is that magical number that’s impossible? Because that 5 pounds of water weight will take her from 11% body fat to 4%??

    • Chris Leslie says:

@advent you’re missing key parts of that equation. Her walk-around weight is 165, meaning that she is already losing 15% of her body weight to get to 140. She’s also 11% body fat at 165, not 145.

As a side note, Her cutting to 135 would be banned under the rules governing weight loss in wrestling and 140 would require doctor’s evaluation first. Cutting that much, when you’re already low is extremely unhealthy.

  • Advent says:

Well I see all just as an excuse. She’s the one who has been confirmed making 145 while on steroids, so she cycles that shiit out of her body and accept Dana’s offer to hire Dolce, and she could make it.

I don’t buy the unhealthy aspect of this chicanery. Wow, so her doctor, presumably the one who got her on roids, said its not safe? And since when did Tito Ortiz become a physician, capable and qualified to comment on the health risks of cutting water weight? She’s not losing fat, she’s cutting water. Have an unbiased second or third opinion by a credible doctor.

Keep on mind Chris, I’m not barking at you, I’m just commenting in general. I mean, before she got busted, everyone was saying “not to bash her.. No one has proof,” but we all knew, including the mods; just like we all know that her saying its “impossible” to dehydrate herself to 135 is complete and total horseshiit.

She’s scared to fight Ronda and trying to throw out fallacies to make it look like Ronda’s scared, when in reality, Ronda has the belt, she’s the champ, and the fight needs to happen in her division, the only division the UFC currently has.

I think in Tito’s attempt to screw Dana, he’s really hurting Cyborg’s chances of clearing her name and reputation, and re-establishing validity and legitimacy to her MMA lore.
